First up, I got rid of the grey splatter!
Put the beginnings of the exhaust system underneath and mounted the engine and bolted the front end back together. It all fits and the wheels still turn!
Got the rad mounted and some more 'rust'. The lighter 'spray' is from 'clay mud' splashed up. Not sure that I am happy with the way it turned out but will wait until the beast is complete for final weathering before I decide to leave it or not.
Hope to get the engine in tomorrow.
Thankyou for the comment on the yellow 'scrap iron', you know something is working when others can easily pick up on the scenario.
So, to continue (in the hopes of finishing this someday!) I torched up some 'sheet steel' scavenged from something that was apparently painted yellow. Fitting in progress, nearly done. Detail painting after mounting.
It is a 1/18 die-cast by Ertl (belongs to the client). I mostly use CA to bond metal to metal and plastic to metal. The CA really grabs styrene and the metal that these things are made from. I sometimes use JB Weld for extra strength (especialy if adding brass). I use Tamiya spray laquers and sometimes lay it on a bit heavy! Hence the long curing time.
A friend of mine used to build his own chassis and put 1/32 bodies on them, they were so good they were banned from every track that he raced at! Thankyou for bringing back the memories!
When I first looked at your pics I could not figure out what kind of ambulance you were trying to build and then realized it was going to be a custom (after going back and rereading!). Will be keeping an eye on this build.
Nice glassy looking paint job! Too bad it is GREEN! (I have been told that I don't see green the way it is supposed to be, especialy by my wife, who loves the colour!)
Thanks, Gary and Blake, just enough detail to make it interesting to do (and look at) without going too crazy! I got the shocks painted and installed today and sprayed some more 'rust' around.
