  1. Thanks again for the offer of the gift of the steam shovel, Eric, but feel free to pass it on to another interested party (I tried a personal message but could not make it work!). I doubt very much that I will be attempting anything that small any time soon, I have enough BIG projects waiting in the wings. thanks again, later, Dan.
  2. Have you built it yet? Any pics?
  3. Thankyou Porky for the vote of confidence but I have too much on the go right now (also getting it back to you in one piece would probably be a miracle!).
  4. Thankyou, but, there is nothing like a close up pic to make you humble!
  5. Aircraft and armour guys also hate imperfections in kits and if anything are even more anal in 'getting it right'! You only have to check out the mountain of photo-etch and resin after market stuff to get the gist.
  6. Looking good so far.
  7. Just ordered a Road Legends die-cast to build my own. I think it is one sweet ride!
  8. Paint so far, this beast is driving me nuts! Repainted the hood twice so far, hopefully everything will polish up OK. Added just a bit of rake to lift the rear about 1/8 inch. Managed to fix the white-walls to an acceptable look.
  9. About this big...
  10. Built out of the box.
  11. I built this one out of the box, a kit if memory serves by GHQ. It is 'N' scale, that is 1/160. I decided to build it in one my many moments of insanity, probably only because it is a metal kit.
  12. I think that Grahams pioneered more features copied by other makes than just about any other concern.
  13. ANY 'race car' has to be researched six ways to sunday because they underwent mods constantly. Some changed from race to race! A nightmare for the dedicated modeler.
  14. If I need photos, anywhere I can get them from.
  15. I may be wrong but I think the only window that holds together is the windshield because of its lamination. Don't the other windows just shatter into millions of tiny glass cubes?
  16. Love the colour.
  17. This conversion is based on the HWY61 mid-pumper firetruck. The middle pump section was cut out and the truck shortened. The tank and hose box was custom built and mounted on the chassis and the ladder rack built from brass and bolted on. The pump was made from milliput and brass and aluminum and the frame extension made from brass strip and the pump and bumper bolted to it. Various other details (such as the nozzle mounted on the step, suction-hose, fire-hose and connections etc.) were made from whatever would do the job and give the look required. This model now sits in the Chiefs office at the firehall. It is probably the most ambitious project undertaken so far.
  18. I like the concept (I did the same thing myself, sort of) but I find the length in front of the cab to be a little over the top or maybe it is just because the wheels are right out front. Will be watching this to see how it turns out. New pics while I was posting this. Looks different with the rad installed. Nice and business looking!
  19. Good come-back! Someone did a die-cast version with 'brushed stainless' but I do not think it looked all that great. Too obviously 'brushed'. Maybe one of the 'steel' paints with a muted shine would work?
  20. I probably would not buy one for myself but would use it if I received one as a gift.
  21. 'sad puppy dog eyes', I will probably be admonished for this but I'll say it anyway, she is your girlfriend not your wife, grow a pair; good luck with your model builds!
  22. Was there ever an actual car or is this a custom job? I have (obviously!) never seen one in the flesh. Cool model.
  23. Well I've gotten it pretty much sorted out inside and added a bit of detail to the tail-gate. Primered and may start the body paint tomorrow.
