Apoc Pajero
DanielG replied to DanielG's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks everybody. All the pics are still up on Photobucket but the original posts here have gone stale. I have been using this project to experiment with different ways to arrive at different effects; rust, welds etc. -

Thank you, yes, check out Battlewagon pg5 and 1/2Trakk pg6 and my pics at Tanker49_2008 on photobucket. -
They thought it would cost too much. The '79 copies looked pretty good but I don't know what they sold for.

Now that I have finished the Trans Am I am going back to this one to work on some more techniques more than anything.
-
Thanks everybody. Jason, I have a dragon diorama on the go but there are some techniques I may want to try on the apocoliptic Pajero so I think I will get back to it.

Green is not my favourite colour but that combination WORKS. Like the Colorado plate.

Brings back memories. My little baby would do 80mph quite nicely with the engine just a humming!
-
Thanks guys. I did learn something from doing this one. Maybe the next project will go smoother! Meanwhile, I may resurrect the apocoliptic Pajero and work on it for a while.

Well I am calling this one done! Is it perfect? No, but it looks Ok at shelf distance. I finished this the way I would like it if it were my car not exactly the way the original may have looked. At any rate it is time to move on! I hope that following me do this may have entertained you if nothing else, goodness knows there was enough drama.

dont breethe pante fuumes! HOW will he end uup beain like uss? Good start Andrew, keep us posted.

Nice! That is the present (and only) version with the '79 clip. I wonder if any of the copies are still about? Wonder what they would go for?
-
Very clean and sharp, great job!

Update! Almost completed. I still have some small details to add/fix. I took some artistic license and 'tinted' the rear windows. There may be a light at the end of the tunnel! I have made decals for the tires with the proper outlined script, maybe it will work out OK.

I always like to have some snacks nearby too.

Thanks guys. The pilot I built the model for also loved flying the Mossie. He is a large man and I asked him how he could cope with the space but he said that once he got in and seated there was lots of room and he was very comfortable. He told me about a nasty vice that the aircraft had, namely flipping over at low speed if an engine cut out. To test it, he climbed to ten thousand feet and then throttled back to just above stalling speed and cut one engine, the aircraft immediately flipped over and there was a loud bang. He got it righted and flying level after losing three or four thousand feet with a cracked plexi panel to show for it. It was almost always fatal to lose an engine on take-off or landing.

Man there are some talented ARTISTES on this forum! A pic of the pump that I built for the fire-truck conversion, maybe not my absolute best but by far the prettiest.

Battlewagon

Yes, I used it upside down (or was it back to front?) and used half of the carapace as the basis for the turret. Then chopped some of it up for armour and beefed up the weedy legs. Lots of fun! -
3 scratch built rigs
DanielG replied to skysoldier46's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
My two-bits worth on shows and why you don't pick up some wins. After staring at your pics and comparing to the logging truck here by way of comparing to another model (not necessarily a winning model just something else). Both models are detailed and weathered much the same as far as the back ends go but both seem a little weak in the cab area. Your detailing of the mirrors and wiper (as an example) seems a little weak compared to what you have done to the rig and piping etc. Maybe put a little less crud on the forward part of the vehicle especially the windows? Just my completely subjective thoughts. Anyway, really great modeling and good luck in the future. -
A very nice clean crisp build. If you had labeled it a new die-cast straight from the box I would have believed you! (That IS meant as a compliment.)
-
Since everybody is giving advice I will add my two-bits worth! I think that smaller wheels would change the overall look for the better. OK, I admit that I don't like the large new type wheels on 'classic' cars but those wheels are so large that it has an almost cartoony look to it. I like the lowered look, that made a big difference and maybe a flatter roof line would fit in with the lower line? (Easy for all of us, we are not doing the work!)

Rockin' interior!
