Classic Big Rigs single and tandem rear set ups
highway replied to dencon's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I think it would be a great idea, especially with modelers like me who have special heavy duty projects that need a heavier duty suspension than the kits supply. One size I could suggest is a replacement for the Monogram F350/F250 kits, another maybe for the Chevy 1500 trucks from AMT and the newer Chevy 1500 from Revell. I have builds planned using those kits to build tow trucks, which need the heavier suspension like the pictures of my 1:1 truck has. In fact, the reason my 1:1 truck has such a heavy duty suspension is because it was formerly a tow truck. Offhand, I can think of five different tow truck conversion builds I could use a heavier duty spring set for. If you would like or need to use my pics for reference, feel free, and I also have a post in 1:1 Truck Reference. Here is a link to it: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30068 If you would need any other info or pics, feel free to ask me. Thanks. -

I got this from a friend of mine last night who repairs and rebuilds computers, just so I can enjoy my favorite model forum from the comfort of my model desk!! It's not as powerful as my main computer, and found it REALLY doesn't like pages with tons of pics (HINT, HINT!!), because I had to come back to the main computer to make this post!!!! At least I don't have to leave the model desk to research projects or get pics of projects I'm working on and have already researched!

Classic Big Rigs single and tandem rear set ups

You make a very good point, Ryan, and they are the closest I've found to the real things so far! Now just to find a 7.3 Liter Diesel for under the hood! -

Thanks again for the info, Matt. I just checked the length of my stock spring setup in my F350 kit, and unfortunately your beautiful springs are way to short for the setup under my 1:1. The stock kit springs are almost 2.5 inches long, which scales very close to the nearly 5 foot length of the 1:1 setup. I will keep them in mind, though, I may just have to settle with shorter springs on the model. -

Thanks, Matt. I'll measure the springs on my F350 kit and the 1:1 and see if they will work. If so, I will email you, Thanks again. -
W900's New headache rack
highway replied to rronning84's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thank you, Jim. I don't plan on selling them, because I'm far from a pro resin caster like Porky and Cargostar are, but if anyone needs one, I would be more than happy to work something out. -

Matt, approx how long are those springs in the single set? I need some that would fit in place of the Monogram's Ford F350 or the new F250's rear springs to replicate these springs on my 1:1 F350. Those look like they are near perfect for what I need. -
I'm sorry to hear of your loss and you and your family will be in my prayers.

The combo looks wonderful together. -

Yes it is, but I modified it to make it wider and give it a back. This is the master I made for the mold used for Ryan's: I nearly doubled the width and gave it a back to make it a better box. By the way, the one I modified came out of Revell AG's Can Do wrecker. -

WOW, nice job, Ryan!! It's kinda sad I made the master for that, and this is the first time I've seen one finished on a truck!! I guess that just goes to show how long it takes me to finish anything!! Now I have to get one of my trucks done and use it, too! Nice job again, and sorry about all the sanding, but that's just because it is just from a one piece mold, nothing to keep the back flat. -
Nice job, I've had the same build planned for years, just haven't gotten to it yet. I'm happy to see the AMT parts work well with the Revell kit.

Snowman's W900
highway replied to Nick Winter's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Are you sure, Nick? All that I've heard about was the 40FT Freuhauf Van, not the reefers. By the way, nice builds!! -
Nice haul Nick! Now just for you to figure out the camera!! Seriously, though, for your close up pics, like the real blurry one, there should be a "Macro" setting for close ups. Depending on the camera, there should be a "Macro" setting in the menu or some have a little wheel for the settings, the little flower looking icon should be the "Macro" setting. You can use the macro for the other shots, too, and your close up pics will be much clearer.

scratch building a scale car battery?
highway replied to charlzrocks's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
You could maybe use pieces of an old credit card or something similar in thickness for regular square batteries and a short length of thick wire, maybe coat hanger thickness, for terminals. If you want Optima style batteries, use the credit card pieces for the top and bottom, and the tube for the ink inside an old used up ink pen for the battery body, and again thick wire for the terminals. -
....Just as it would be parked at a curb, "curbside".

What engine
highway replied to rronning84's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yeah, I have one of the older Italeri Stars, like the green Aussie version, and it has the Cummins like most Italeri kits. -
That's not a bad idea! I can see motorhome conversions, tour buses, the possibilities are endless.

The BEST product I have found for removing chrome is Dawn Power Dissolver. It's in the dishwashing section and eats chrome like a hungry bear eats honey! It only takes about 3-4 hours to totally take the chrome off parts, undercoat and all. If you leave it overnight, ALL chrome and undercoat WILL BE GONE by morning!!! Since it is actually for pots and pans with baked on gunk, it's non toxic, and washes off easily with regular dish soap. Try it, YOU WILL LIKE IT!!!
