The Moebius Lonestar
highway replied to Art Anderson's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
What type of measurements do you need, the reefer unit or trailer? If it is for the reefer unit, depending on the unit you want to replicate, there are resin reefer units you could get. I think Kit Form Services offer these units, and they have both modern Thermo King and modern Carrier units. -
fred's wrecker reissue
highway replied to a topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
It is just as Jim said, the truck in the kit is a W-900, it is more or less the W-900 tractor Revell AG offers, expect with the wrecker body. The Kentorth K Series trucks are the cabover truck, W Series are the standard style conventional trucks, and the T Series are the aerodynamic "anteater" style sloped nose conventionals. A T-900 truck is very similar the wrecker in my profile picture, I think the one in my profile pic is a T-800, but not 100% sure. -
Hey, that's what I was going to say!!!!

Parts Box Ford Monster Truck
highway replied to highway's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
By the way, you might be watching for a while, I have to get the other three projects I'm currently working on off the desk first!! I was just playing around with the parts last night and figured I'd do a quick mock up. -
Parts Box Ford Monster Truck
highway replied to highway's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks, Rodney, but what you sent me works fine! The windshied is covered, I'm going to use some clear sheet stock for it, and if I can't find the interior (I know that bugger is in a box here somewhere!! ), I'm just going to make a tube rollcage and flat floor for the racing seat. There's no prototype I'm basing off of, no rhyme or reason to the build. It just going to be parts I collect from my parts box, and in the case of the frame and suspension, YOUR parts box!! -

Thanks, Nick, and yes, you can call me Matt! BTW: I found a whole bucket of those clamps at Big Lots for just a couple dollars for 25 of them!! I'd be lost witout them!! -
I need help please
highway replied to RodBurNeR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bob, I don't know for sure if it was the Easy Lift Off you mentioned or the Poly Strip Howard mentioned, but a friend of mine tried one of the "hobby grade" strippers like that. It destroyed the body!! -
I know the feeling too, Eric. I have three builds going on like Bradley, my T-bird for this one, a highly custom Ford tractor trailer, and a 1998 Pontiac Trans Am, all for community builds, two of which are on the "other" site. Of course, since I have to spray paint outside, the weather has been playing with me, too. It's either not been warm enough, too windy, or raining! The one nice day I had last week, my 1:1 decided that would be a nice day to replace it's gremlin possessed power steering pump. Believe me, an almost 6,000 pound 1990 Ford F350 4x4 is NOT fun to drive when it suddenly wants to steer itself!!Since the weather is FINALLY nice and I don't have to work on the real truck, maybe I can have an update by the end of the weekend, off to the model cave I go!!!

Die-cast custom rims/tires question.
highway replied to whale392's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What about Pegasus (don't know if I spelled that right) wheels? I've seen quite a few nice builds with those. -
This was an idea I came up with for an old Ford Stepside body and some monster truck tires I had sitting in the parts box. Thanks to Zukiholic (Rodney), he sent me a frame, suspension, and axles, I can maybe finally get this idea in progress. I've got three other builds going on right now, so I probably won't be working on this much until I get the others finished. I did take a crude mock up pic of the idea, I just wanted to know what you think of it. I still have to dig up the interior, I haven't found it yet, and need to figure out what will be under the hood.

Snowman's W900
highway replied to Nick Winter's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
You know, I've said this before, I would like to see both radish's and mardtrp's builds when they were 14 YEARS OLD!!!!! I think Nick did a wonderful job building this for his age and abilities!! Yes, it may not be 100% correct to the prototype, but he is happy how it turned out. THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!!!! -
Nice start, Brian. I'm happy you found a modern frame to put under it. The USA-1 kit is nice, but is from the era when they were built from the real production truck, and so out of date compared to todays trucks. By the way, Lindburg's Dodge Ram and "Weird Oh's" monster trucks would have been nice donors, too.

I never have tried to strip paint that old, but have you tried brake fluid yet? It may take a while in Lake Brake, but might work. -
Classic Big Rigs single and tandem rear set ups
highway replied to dencon's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks, Matt, that will save me a lot of work!!! If you or Dave need, here is a couple of pics of the spring from the outside of the truck. This is the front mount: This is the rear mount: As I said, there are more pics in the reference thread, and if Dave needs any measurements or other info or pics, please feel free to ask, I will help in any way possible. The 1:1 is just outside in the driveway! Thanks again, Matt. -
Model Master Lacquer
highway replied to coopdad's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's not a dumb question, John. The Testors Lacquers are just like a 1:1 basecoat/clearcoat paint job, they need the clear to have a shine. I painted this 09 Challenger with Testors MM Custom Lacquer System Hemi Orange, also using their white primer and clear coat. I used the same paint for the engine and under the hood, but did not use the clear on these parts. It may be hard to see in these pictures, but there is a noticeable difference in the shine. The uncleared parts have more of a satin or flat shine to them, just as if you look under the hood of your 1:1 car, where the paint is typically not clearcoated. -
yes, HE does build...
highway replied to weasel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Are you trying to say that SA stands for SNAP ALL!!!!! Are they not smart enough for glue over there??? -
Here's what I use, and the best is it will not gas you out of the house!! The valve covers and radiator are from a Monogram Nascar kit, and were dechromed with the Dawn Power Dissolver in about 4 hours. Here are some other parts in the Power Dissolver bath that have been there for about a week, and nothing has been done to them yet. All that is needed is simple clean up with dish soap and maybe a light scrubbing with an old toothbrush. Since the Dawn Power Dissolver is for dishes, there are no nasty fumes or need for gloves!!

Yeah, Gregg's got a thread somewhere here with a couple other builds. -
For the professional painters out there
highway replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Calling Mr. Taylor, Mr. Mark Taylor!!! This could be your next tutorial!!! I've wanted to know how to do paintjobs like this, too, but I have never used an airbrush before. I need to do a green and yellow fade similar to what Ben described on the "Days of Thunder" City Chevrolet Nascar. -
Home made decals
highway replied to rronning84's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yeah, but I have the Testors Decal Program and the little I have messed with it, it can be difficult to use. That's why I've just played with it and not made any decals with it, yet, I still have to figure it out first! -

I think Ryan may be talking about the Testors decal making computer program, not the paper.
