Ok, I think it's time to think outside the box and show everyone a real engine, and my favorite. The Detroit Diesel Series 60 I've driven quite a few trucks with one of these under the hood, and loved them. One I had the pleasure of driving was a 500 HP model, and I could climb the steepest mountains in the Rockies with ease!

Your welcome, Bradley. By the way, I haven't forgot about the build, I've been busy working on my 1:1 Ford F350 lately, so haven't had much time to work on the T-Bird, but I hope to have some more progress on it soon.

Unbelieveable luck...
highway replied to Matt Bacon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
WOW, Matt, I think you got one nice buy! What's 6 pounds 50 equal to US dollars, about $10? We can't even buy a new kit here "across the pond" that cheap anymore! -
Oh yeah, I forgot, no pics, it didn't happen!! So, here's the pics!!! The black Spyder is mine, the red one is the better half's!

Slightly off topic full-scale car question
highway replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just based on the pic you posted before and the pic you found online of the black aftermarkets, I would definitely leave them black. The blue and black look nice together. -
Maybe use the bunny as your new avatar, then!!!

LOVE the new avatar, Skip, I think you should keep it!!!

Here are the pics Art referred to of the International Lonestar mock up, I'm sure as fine as this truck is looking in the development stage, the cars should be just as nice!!

Nick, I forgot about the exhaust!! If you do make it look like the exhaust has holes all the way through in spots, don't forget the black stains aroubd the holes when the exhaust is leaking. Also, if you need some weathering ideas from a vehicle that has lived twenty years in the snow and rust belt, check out the pics of my 1990 Ford F350, here's a link to it: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30068 I know it's no where near the car you're building, but the underside pics should give you some good ideas, not only for the weather related weathering, but something that has had oil leaks as well.

Nice work Ken! By the way, there is a Truck section here, come join us scale gearjammers!!!

My pickups
highway replied to Casey429's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yeah, me too!! At least his Chevy fits the saying we have in my neck of the woods, "This is Ford country, on a quite night you can hear Chevys RUST!!!! -
I think you said you were building it as a taxi, right? I would say, depending on if you are going with one that has been in service for a long time, rust scale on the frame rails and rear end, maybe an oil leak or two, and some grease stains where grease fittings would be. Oh, by the way, a lot of road grime.

questions about tire and rim sizes
highway replied to randx0's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Too young, didn't know that!! I assume the Dirt Hauler may have been issued in the 50's or 60's??, I wasn't born until 1976. Anyway no one mentioned the scale until you did, Ben. Since I don't know the kit, I thought it was a 1:25. -
One of the things I see misspelled the most, at least in the truck section, is "Peterbilt"! Everybody seems to think it is spelled "Peterbuilt", there is NO "U" in Peterbilt!!!

Sports team = Which car
highway replied to justin2020's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No, but you're forgetting the Pontiac PHOENIX!!!! Ford also made a paint color called CARDINAL Red!! Paint the Phoenix with the Ford paint, and you get a Phoenix Cardinal!!! -
Congrats, and if she's already been with you for 13 years, I'm sure she won't mind getting you some plastic for a wedding gift!

Pick ups versus big rigs
highway replied to Railfreak78's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The former club I was a member of had a simple solution for the pickup versus big rig problem, separate classes for all. We put on a very successful show for over 15 years until the club folded, and everything was clearly divided on the class listings. Heavy commerical was for all vehicles over 1 ton, light commerical was for everything 1 ton and smaller, and MUST diplay commerical signage. Through the years, we did start having a few problems when sport trucks began getting popular with some pickups that didn't really fit a category like Custom or Factory Stock or the builders addressed the problems of putting their truck against 49 Mercs or muscle cars, so we added a Pickup category just for the non light commerical trucks. This worked well for us, I just would like to see other shows that would do the same. -

They are all very nice, Rodney. I really like the Dayton Auto Wrecking scene, looks like someone got caught! -
The Moebius Lonestar
highway replied to Art Anderson's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Dave, the 1:1 prototype for Revell AG's "Can Do" Peterbilt Wrecker, as well as the kit, has a sleeper. There are also three companies near my home near Wheeling, WV that all have sleepers on their wreckers. I worked for one of them, and drove a 1994 Freightliner FLD 120 single axle with a 36" "casket" sleeper, the others have an International 9900i with 70" prosleeper and a Kenworth T600 with about a 70" sleeper as well.
