rims ant tires
highway replied to cowboysevens's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
No problem, Dennis, it will take time, but you'll rebuild the collection quicker than you think! At the time of my fire, I had been building for about 12 years and had probably about 150-200 kits, since then I now have over 400! I'll see what I can find wheel wise, I'm very low on the truck parts side myself. The little bit of spare parts I do have seem to be finding their way to my latest build. I've been trying to get some of the junkyards on ebay, too. You must be the outbidding me! Just kidding! -
I wish I could find a friend like that!! A friend of mine has one of those I've been trying to get out of him for years, I've tried almost everything short of stealing it to get it out of him.

I have the Revell kit, I haven't built it though. I do have a diecast I picked up at a local auto parts store, would that help?

Peterbilt 378 Long Hauler
highway replied to Old Albion's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The 377 has the square horns, too, doesn't it? I have one and I thought they were in that kit. I know the Italeri truck accessories kit has them, too. Nope, the 377 and 378 kits have the same silly tiny round horns. (can you say "fleet spec horn?" Tim -
rims ant tires
highway replied to cowboysevens's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Welcome to the forum, and sorry to hear about your house fire. I've been there, too. I lost everything in 1997, and there are many rarer kits I'm still trying to replace. It takes time, but at least your back to building. The rims you are looking for, are they from the Revell Pete and KW kits recently released, or from Revell of Germany kits? -
It has EVERYTHING to do with models!! I know this is "Model Cars", but there are probably a lot of us who build more than cars. I have an older issue of Monogram's B29 that INCLUDES both the Enola Gay and Boxcar markings! I just wish it would come somewhere closer to me, the closest I seen was Philly, which is about 300-350 miles away. I'd love to get some nice reference pictures for the model.

Need Dot tape in 1/24 1/25
highway replied to Scott S's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Here's a couple more options if you can't get the tape Jim put the link up to. The first is the decals from the new issue of the AMT Pearless logger, and I believe the new issue of the Freuhauf flatbed has been updated, also. The second I have not tried yet, but will be soon on my current project, is get some of the real tape. I have seen it at local auto parts stores for around $8-$10, I got a roll from left over from retaping a real trailer, so I have enough probably for life! The best thing with cutting down thw real tape, it will be reflective! After I try the cut down real tape, I'll update you on how good it worked. Also, keep in mind, the tape does not have to be in a continuous line, I have seen many with a piece of red/white and a space of about two feet between the next red/white strip. If you want, I have and older DOT regulation book from my driving days, I would be more than happy to find the regulation governing the placement of the reflective tape. -
I have finally decided that I will build my 1982 Dale Earnhardt Thunderbird. I will be trying to build it as his winning car from the April 4 1982 Rebel 500 in Darlington, SC, which was his first win with Bud Moore Racing. I'm a die hard Earnhardt fan, and always will be!

I'll have to take some time to look through everything there, but I already seen a few kits I have that you don't have listed. I'd be more than willing to help you out.

SOFTWARE PROBLEM!!!
highway replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, while I couldn't respond, I couldn't find the Model Trucks section as well, but it is back now, too. For a minute I thought everyone didn't like us model truck guys anymore! I thought that for a minute, too!! -

I was wondering why I couldn't respond to anything, obviously I can now, though! -
Revell W900A snapper build
highway replied to whale392's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That's where I got lucky with this being a 1/24 scale Italeri frame. Have you thought of rectangular tubing? That may work better on yours. -
What just happened?
highway replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just found out after the change you can change backgrounds, too! Go to the box where it says "Comfy" and find the one you like the best! -
Double WOW, I didn't know I could change the look of the screens, too!
-
WOW, I leave for an hour and BOOM, I find a more colorful Model Cars when I come back! I love the new look Gregg, especially the new header at the top of the screen. Nice job!

Revell W900A snapper build
highway replied to whale392's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Great minds think alike! I added square tubing the same size as the cab mount running along the top of the frame rail so when I begin final assembly, the sleeper will be glued to the frame. It also extends past my splices to add strength. As Bradley said, though, I have not found any C channel long enough, and in the case of my Italeri frame, tall enough, to use as a frame rail. The largest C channel from Evergreen fits inside the stock Italeri frame rails. The best match I could find for the Italeri rails was actually large square tubing I cut in half to make the stretch portion. -
What components come in......
highway replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They do, even though Revell advertises "All New Tooling" on the box. To Revell's credit, though, the Mach 1 is new tooling, with the new 351C engine and a Mach 1 specific interior and the other Mach 1 specific parts. The 302 version buildable from the new Mach 1 kit is a straight reissue of the older Boss 302 kit. -

No problem, I like to try to help whenever I can. I'm looking forward to your progress. -

I do think the top of the diff is open, it is the same as the older Boss 429 and Boss 302 kits from the 80s. -
One slight problem with that idea, Fords have the transfer case and axle pumpikin on the drivers side, Chevy's came down the paasenger side! Chevy also used solid axles only, not an idependent axle like those in the Broncos. Monogram had a late 70's Chevy Stepside (I believe it was call Sportside on the box) 4X4 that would be a perfect donor kit, if you can find it. I think it was last released in the 90s, blue on the box. You could also use about any solid axle from other 4X4s, no matter of make, just make sure the front driveshaft comes down the passenger side to be prototypically correct.

Revell W900A snapper build
highway replied to whale392's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
No laughing here, either! I do have a couple suggestions, though. I have this Ford with a 180 inch sleeper in progress and have learned a lot on frame and sleeper stretching. First, I would suggest that you add some C channel inside the frame where you spliced the frames from a point in front of your first splice all the way to a point past your last splice. That will help keep the splices from cracking apart. Second, fill the first set of sleeper doors and vent, leaving just the rear ones. You are off to a nice start, keep it up! P.S.: Bradley, if you want to see my WIP pics, here's a link to the build of my Ford: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28849 There are some pics I have of the beginning of the build up of the frame and sleeper that I didn't post, but if you want to see them, PM me. -
I have four, two boys and two girls. They all know to stay off the model desk, though. It's amazing what a squirt of water and a light slap to the rump will do! They're allowed anywhere but the counter, table and the computer and especially Daddy's model desk. They're all good kids, though, my oldest girl Shasta is about 10, she came along with my better half, and the youngest girl Libby (the one on the box), and the boys, Doc (short for Dockplate) and Noah Garfield, are all 4 1/2 years old. They are all brothers and sister, I rescued them from under a loading dockplate at a warehouse I used to work for. Libby is short for the name of the company, Doc is because we found them under the dock, and Noah is for the coworker who discovered them, even though he earned the middle name Garfield because he is a little pig like the cartoon character. Here's the famliy: Shasta Left to right, Garfield, Libby, and Doc Now, back to the regularly scheduled model build!

I haven't made a final decision yet, but my entry will probably be one of these two, or maybe both!

How's the Camaro coming Scalper? Since this thread went to the cats instead of the dogs, here's my little girl Libby on her favorite box, and sorry I said before it was a Payhauler 500, it's not, it's a Payhauler 350. Anyway, she thinks its hers!
