Where do I get a Motor?
highway replied to little dog daddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know if I'm guessing right or not, but I think Dillon might just be referring to an electric motor because if it is the kit I'm thinking of, it has no opening hood and an area for motorization like early Japanese kits. If I'm right and it's the same kit I have (don't ask how, I don't even know where I got it! ) it comes with gears to attach to the rear axle. I would say you should be able to find a suitable motor from hobby shops that sell train and R/C supplies, or you could even pick up a cheap R/C at Walmart and steal the motor out of it. As a little advise too Dillon, I agree with Rob's comment, a little more information and a clearer description will help get you better information. Don't take our comments the wrong way, clearer descriptions will get you clearer answers and welcome to the forum. -
Just Curious.......
highway replied to GrandpaMcGurk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think in the almost 30 years that I've been building, that has one happened once (with the exception of armor, ships, movie or special edition vehicles that more or less make your mind up for you) in all that time. That was with the release of the 09 Challenger from Revell, I knew I wanted one Hemi Orange and I have been sticking straight to the plans. Now just if the rest of my builds were that easy, sometimes all that survives from a kit is the body, all the rest finds different homes and modifications! -
Got these from a friend of mine just for helping him move. Unforunately the Caddy and the Camaro are missing some long gone parts, but the DeLorean is complete!! Maybe that's the reason I think of my friend more like my baby brother, he knew to take care of the kit I wanted the most!

I'm with Steve, everything is at my fingertips and just a mouse click away. I even save pics of things people ask about on the various forum that have not been able to figure out they can just as easily Google it or just too lazy too do the searching themselves. That way I have pics if I do ever have a project similar, and right now I have a folder on all my hard drives (main computer and laptop plus the external drives for each) just for model research pics. I do also have the old timey print reference too, but mostly all of that is Scale Auto, Finescale, and MCM, with the few oddball Tamiya and old Car Modelers thrown in, and a few books on specific vehicles.

Well, if anyone else didn't notice, I very highly doubt we'll see any of these in finshed state, since the OP hasn't been online here since June 3, 2006!

how to replicate stone chip
highway replied to stulee11's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I know years ago they sold undercoating in a spray can at the auto parts stores. I used that on a few models for the "can't get more real than the real thing" look, and it worked surprisingly well too. Even though it sprayed on a little thick and was rubberized because for it's 1:1 real world usage, it didn't hide any fine detail. -
What styrene do you want from "Santa"?
highway replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know, but if you really want to ask Santa for a Countach kit, I'd ask for the Italeri or Testors rebox of it over the Tamiya kit anyday!! The Italeri/Testors kit is a full deatil with an engine where the Tamiya is an old motorized "toy" version with just a top piece as a (poor) representation of an engine. -
Bench Rage! Have you ever lost it?
highway replied to Chillyb1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Alright, I guess after making some jokes about a few of the other experiences, I guess I'd better admit that I'm not immune to a little bench rage. I was working on the roof of my custom sleeper for this truck and all the stars lined up to where it pushed me over the edge and the sleeper bit the edge of my desk's hutch. This is the before: And this is the after: As you can see by the after pic, the bodywork was what pushed me over the edge. I was trying to get the shape of the curve of the roof just right and the putty would not cooperate. Thankfully the sleeper was rebuilt (and in my opinion, better than the first time) and finally finished with no further harm. -

Antonio, that brings a tear to my eye!! How could you do such a thing to an innocent Skyline!?!? -
Revell AG To Release A 1939 Opel Admiral
highway replied to Junkman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wow, what narrowmindedness!! I'm sorry, but then I guess 1:16, 1:24, 1:32, 1:48, and 1:72 must be "military" scales too, since I have seen military subjects in all those scales. Wow, now you get the idea!! That's just like this kit, it looks like an interesting break from the norm for my collection. It's not really my norm, but I'm all about getting subjects for a rainy day, and I wouldn't care what scale it comes in! I very rarely even look at the scale when I'm in a buying frenzy, if it catches my eye, it goes home! -

Pro Star and 53 ft Great Dane reefer
highway replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Jonathan, I don't see anywhere in the original post of yours where you said "Reefer Trailer" and it doesn't show that you editted the post either. I don't know what Chucky is reading, but it sure wasn't the post you and I are reading. -
Revell AG To Release A 1939 Opel Admiral
highway replied to Junkman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Ok, explain this to me, what does war and scale have to do with each other?? If it's a subject you want to build, why should scale matter? -
I'm sorry, but I don't see what a lathe has anything to do with casting a tire with a whitewall insert. I'm a very amateur caster that makes parts for my own use, and I didn't need a lathe to cast tires with whitewall inserts, just some casting rubber and resin. And here I thought I didn't have the knowledge of casting to make a 1/350 scale ant, but the way it sounds now I'm a master!!

Well Tom, I paid a little more than that!! In fact, I'm STILL paying them off!!! Thankfully I didn't have to buy all the collection, I think my better half would have killed me if I brought close to 500 kits home, which would have instantly doubled my stash. As it is, she isn't very happy that my model room (which is actually almost half of our living room) has exploded and overflowed into the living room until I can buy more shelves. Right now half of our couch is buried in kits, it looks like a hobby shop blew up!! Luis, I don't know if everything that was in that box was actually part of the original parts in the box or not, but it had parts of (and unfortunately I don't think any complete ) parts pack engines like a Hemi, small block Chevy, and a Corvair engine, and many 50s and 60s era customizing front and rear bumpers for many different cars. The paperwork that was in it listed all the bumpers, and from the list I think there are actually two sets of each in there because the number I have doesn't match the numbers that were supposed to be there!

Also the more or less Bigfoot reissue kit that was called the "Destroyer" also had that bike in it. Unfortunately mine is also long gone, but hey I bought it at a show for the truck anyway, but I believe the box art has a nice pic of the bike on it. I'll see if I can get a pic later and at least see if that is the bike you are looking for Austin. That way you'll know some sources to ask and look for that has it.

peterbilt 359 or 379 hood
highway replied to pete3522's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I don't know whether this will really help or not, but here is a pic of the top of a regular 379 hood. You are correct though that the correct Can Do is a 379 powered by a (I think) 3406 Cat engine. I also found a few pics of Can Do I hadn't seen before, and according to the caption on the second pic, it appears as if the real one has been restored as well. Also, if you have a way to either get them printed or print them yourself, let me know and I can scan my decals for you to help in your restoration. I plan on making a 100% correct Can Do and have been gathering the correct parts here and there for years, so my decal sheet is still intact. I guess working the real things made me have to have the little ones be right too!
