can we mention the other forum? for ab ers
highway replied to mr cheap's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Agreed Fredrick, and also take note that in the post you quoted there is not ONE spelling mistake, in fact nothing really wrong but the "I" is not capitalized and maybe a couple minor grammatical errors, and is understandable. The opening post, on the other hand, spelling errors abound and it needs translation, but I forgot to pick up my Id10t translator at Walmart last night!! -

Might not be too hard after Moebius releases the Prostar next year! HMMMM, I have fenders like that too, and I think you just gave me an idea for the Ford LTL 9000 they're going on! -
to many people cant load pics
highway replied to mr cheap's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You guys aren't the only one with that sort of problem, when I changed mine to the current one I would get that message "Failed to Load Image", but it still loaded. Also at that time, it was quite funny because I could log on with my laptop and see the current pic, but if I went out to my main computer I would see the old image, and that was even with both computers online on the site at the same time!! One other time right after the "upgrades", I was just "playing" with different pics, and I'm glad that I didn't try to put an offensive or otherwise inappropriate pic up, because one of the "Failed to Load Image" images was MY NEW PIC!! -
Round2Models now OWNS AMT/MPC/Polar Lights!
highway replied to larrygre's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Agreed Ken, one's local hobby shop or Walmart has nothing to contribute to the conversation at all! I have come to expect to find hobby related items in a hobby shop, and if it's taken 3 or 4 years to figure out that Walmart doesn't carry models in the store anymore, maybe one might consider selling car insurance! Ok, back to the subject, and dealing with the licensing side, if I'm understanding everything correctly this means that Round 2 can now obtain their own licenses for products instead of just leasing from what Tomy had? As an example, with one of the very few new kits from Round 2, the license for the 09 Dodge Challenger was only rented through Tomy, but now if they (Round 2) wanted to get a license to make a new Fiat 500, that license would be theirs exclusively as well as the licenses bought from Tomy, correct? -

I noticed it also had an iPhone app. Just what we need, teach the kids to text and drive before they even get behind the wheels of the real things! -
How did they do it?

I didn't get to look at many of them because I'm very short on time right now, and really the only one I had to look at was the 98 Classic XL, and the first thing that caught my quickly glancing eye was the Italeri grille. I'd say with that one at least, it's mostly based off the Italeri FLC kit and heavily modified into the Classic XL, which I noticed also is the 86 inch bunk version. I can't wait until I have more time to check out the rest tonight! -
YES!! ME LIKEY!!! By the way, it wouldn't matter if those were the right dates, I have builds still unfinished older than that!!

I'm pretty sure they are in the kit Bob, aren't they David?? It's looking very nice with the D8 and lowboy, throw a couple of "Oversized Load" banners on her and let her get to work!! -
I don't see why not in all cases including if you want to try the clearing to prevent color bleed between the two colors. The biggest thing to keep in mind is paint your lighter colors first, it's much easier to cover a light color with a dark color than the other way around.
-
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the first place I heard it was on "Musclecar" when host Rick Bacon was masking stripes or something. I haven't tried it yet either, but plan to because paint bleed is the main reason I HATE two tone paint jobs!! There are many I'd like to do, but I know I'd goof them up so I don't do them!
-
Liam, the best I could suggest is that it all depends on the colors. If it were me, if the fenders will be lighter than the body, I would paint the fenders first then mask the fenders off. After masking, I've heard but not tried this yet (and I think I've not only heard this here but on the Spike TV show "Musclecar" as well), that you should spray a coat of clear before spraying the body color to prevent paint bleed under the tape. Regardless of what is going to be what, I would spray the lighter color first, mask and clear, then spray your darker color.

Looking for tow boom plans
highway replied to greymack's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I don't know if still really any real use for slings other than maybe hauling wrecks from a scene or, like one company here, using them to haul cars off to the junkyard. Even at that, their yard truck with the sling is a late 70s or early 80s Chevy, everything else in their fleet from the 94 F350 to their brand new wrecker is slingless. I was doing some checking through the various body manufactures on the Miller site, and it seems most of the bodies that don't have a one piece boom/wheellift all do have slings listed, but only as optional equipment. Of the ones I looked at, none had a sling standard. -
Now just calm down Sean!!! The following is quoted from the first post on the first page, and since I'm the slowest (read laziest) builder on the planet, don't be surprised if the deadline doesn't get pushed back to this time next year! And believe me, you don't have to tell me about life getting in the way, I'm not working again either thanks to health issues that have taken me out of two jobs in the past two months and right now I'm just trying to keep the rent paid and lights on and can't even fix the failing brakes on my 1:1 pickup because I can't afford the parts, which also just so happens to be the only operating vehicle to get my fiancee (which I'm not even that sure I'll have much longer) back and forth to work to try to keep the rent paid so we don't get kicked out of our house! So believe me, I know all about life getting in the way!

Looking for tow boom plans
highway replied to greymack's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Well James, that even depends on IF you can find a sling on one anymore. I worked driving wreckers back in 2001, and not one of the trucks in the fleet had a sling attached, just wheel lifts and winching cables. The closest thing they had to slings were two old heavy wreckers (a 74 White-Western Star and a 74 Mack) that had a sling-style towbar, but the one things those trucks were used for was heavy recovery. All the normal tow jobs went to the 94 Freightliner that had an axle lift, mainly because of the same reasons slings are more or less gone, because of all the plastic bumpers! Unless there would be something between the attachment chains and the frame of the car to keep the sling from coming in contact with any part of the plastic bumper, say bye bye bumper! -

I don't know iff this would be too new or not, but Miller Industries site has some service manuals in PDF format like this one: http://www.millerind.com/parts/pdfs/h440_parts.pdf Here's a link to their home page also, to look through the different manuals like the one in the pervious link, just mouse over the "Parts" tab and select the brand, and then it will list the available service manuals. http://www.millerind.com/index.php -

That's looking very nice Jamie. Also, just to help you out, if you use the IMG code for your pics, they will show up in the post like this: Have you picked out the fenders yet? If not, Eric @ P&P Vintage Kits and Resin Works offers some nice full fenders. He posts here under the screenname Porky and here is a link to his website: http://www.ppvintagekits.com/RESIN-WORKS/RESIN-TRUCK-PARTS.html I bought a set of his full fenders (part # RF1) and I'm very pleased with them. -

Thanks for asking Willie about his progress Clayton, I didn't relize he had posted pics of his build! If there are any others I have missed putting the * next to your build and making it an official entry for whenever we do finally wrap this up for the "bragging rights" truck show voting thread, please let me know!!

What would be reasonable to ask for this?
highway replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
These are from a different era entirely Austin, don't knock Lindberg just because of that old piece of trash. Many of Lindberg's older issues that surprise us as a reissue (like the horrible junk 32 Ford 3n1 I bought) are quite poor in quality and very toylike, because they were motorized toys to put together. The kits they released in the 90s and beyond are leap years ahead of the junk, as these underappreciated 1:20 scale kits are. I'm not saying these are the greatest kits on earth, but they offered some nice subjects no one else has ever offered in any scale to my knowledge, such as the 90s era Nissan Hardbody pickup and the Pontiac Firebird Firehawk edition in addition to the Explorer seen in the opening post. The same thing goes for some of the 1;25 offerings in the mid and late 90s. What other model companies do you know of that made kits of the Dodge Caravan, Dodge Dakota, and Chrysler Cirrus, not to mention the Ford Crown Vic patrol cars?? Yeah, they were all curbsides, but interesting subjects and nicely done in my opinion. Then, again in my opinion, they hit a home run with the new Dodge Chargers, both the police and non police versions of the kits. Pick up one of the new Chargers and you'll be amazed how different the Lindberg of today is compared to the early motorized toy days. -

So, is there a way you could possibly scan the decals for me? It would be greatly appreciated. -

So that kit is yours?? I was a little confused last night when you first posted this thread whether you were getting rid of it or trying to buy it, but since it now sounds that you have it, I have a couple questions for you. Are the decals good in it? If they are, is there a way you could scan them for me? I received one of these exact kits in a trade and the decals have a couple scars in them from where the tires had been on top of them. All I need is a scan, I'm able (well after I start actually doing it anyway ) to print my own decals. Oh, and just my opinion on the whole worth subject, if nothing else start high and lower the price if there is no interest. As Erik had said, it looks like even $10 is too much for most, but it all depends on the buyer. The one I just mentioned I got in a trade for a bed to the Midnight Cowboy Chevy wrecker, which I had gotten from a friend for nothing, sent to trade for the Explorer, and got the Explorer, so you could say I spent $5 for it for the cost of shipping the wrecker bed. That's not to say I wouldn't bid on the $20 police version Erik mentioned, and if I had the spare cash right now I'd be on my way to ebay , but to me being someone that is interested in the subject and not a Scale Nazi and would turn away from it just because is not 1/24 or 1/25 scale. When these kits were new way back when and before I lost them in a house fire in 1997, I had almost every kit in the 1:20 scale series, and been slowly trying to get most of them back into the collection. -
any formula 1 fans here?
highway replied to edward smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the pics Marcos, I think that was probably the main reason I didn't pick them both up at that show recently was not knowing whether the body was chromed or bare plastic, but now I gotta pick them up!! Oh, and I hope you post a thread on that, I'd like to follow along! That thing is looking GREAT!
