Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am
highway replied to Trans Am Erik's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sweet!!!! I have always wanted one! if it wouldn't have been for my older brother talking my mom out of buying it for me, I would have had a 78 with 400 and 4 speed fpr my first car. I did have a 79 Firebird and 88 GTA, but found it was best big brother stepped in on the 78, as I thrashed both before I turned 21. Someday...... -

The 5 best GM designs

The Impalas I have to agree, much more worthy than that stupid Solstice, but I figure the 63 Vette is purely because of the split window. -

The Solstice and Camaro get my vote of not worthy. Don't get me wrong, I like Camaros, but the 70 has always been my least favorite. -
Howdy y'all! If you may or may not have noticed, I don't post here very often anymore because I have gone back to driving and keeping this country going thanks to diesel power!! Actually, I had life issues in December that forced me back to the road, and I have been making this go round work to my advantage by taking time off in a couple of spots other than home around the country. One thing I definitely was not going to miss was this years Truckers Jamboree in Walcott, IA, held at the Iowa 80 truckstop, the world's largest truckstop. I managed to get pics of every truck on display in the show, even though it was quickly done because of sleeping in on Thursday and getting there just before an approaching thunderstorm did on Friday. That is why most all the pics are 3/4 shots from the front, had to race the rain so I didn't have to buy a new camera! Also, before me and my better half went back on the road the Saturday after the show, I had another driver staying at the motel we stayed at get this pic of us and our happy home on wheels. Here is the link to the photobucket album, and there is many fine examples of old and new iron to drool over! http://s769.photobucket.com/albums/xx339/highway76/2012%20Walcott%20Truckers%20Jamboree/ Also, for some of the old iron like these, there will be another album that I will try to make and post next weekend while I'm on my 34 hr restart I get on the dedicated account I'm now temporarily running that is from the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum on the truckstop grounds, These are all part of an impressive collection of old iron the truckstop owns. If you live near Walcott or are just passing through, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND stopping if for nothing but a walk around the museum!

ITALERI CONTEST ON LINE - TRUCKS 1/24
highway replied to chuckyr's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Sean, since I have found through the years that not only does Chucky not seem to be very willing to help anyone but has a "know it all" attitude as well, I happened to notice this in his original post when coming back to this thread. -
Hmmm, I just might have to look up a pic of that, if for nothing else the name! And don't hold yer breath for updates, you might not make it LOL!! Even though we have everything in the planning stages for getting off the road and me back into the model room (and the better half already said one of the three bedrooms is my model room!! ) it still may not be until after Christmas until I get any real work done. As long as I'm needed on the temporary dedicated account I'm running from here in SC, home will be devided between WV and SC. Only after the account doesn't need me will it be time to come off the road.

I think it was Lindberg.

ITALERI CONTEST ON LINE - TRUCKS 1/24
highway replied to chuckyr's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yeah, I want to know about that too!! It's not that mine isn't near paint, I just have to have time to get into the new house that isn't on 18 wheels so I can finish a certain Italeri Ford LOL!! -
No, she still has yet to get her license, but she is going to get a WV license, and from when she was going through training before some life issues got in the way for her, she said the WV license would be good for WV, OH, PA, and even SC and a few other states as well. She is planning on working around home in Wheeling, and once she gets everything sorted out, I'll have her get in contact with you! Thanks, and I was planning on the name for a while, but I thought it would really fit after I came up with the idea to put the model in the pic!

Hi everyone!! I sorta have an update to this build, but unfortunately no building has been done on this since I posted the last update. Life has not only gotten in the way of this build, but put it on a semi-permanent (pun intended!) hold. I was evicted from the house I and my ex fiancee had called home for 6 1/2 years back in December 2011 and unfortunately the truck and trailer has been living packed away in a box at a close friend's house ever since, and I have returned to driving (and living) on the road. Thankfully, though, I'm working on a dedicated account right now and getting a steadier income and me and my new love of my life and fiancee are planning on using the time and better pay on this temporary gig to get back into a regular life! We have a trailer back in WV that her mom is going to let us live in and eventually give to us, and we are working on getting a few minor repairs made so we can finally move into it and then we are going come off the road for good. My fiancee is going to finish the steps she needs to get her real estate license and then after that I will finally go back to school for my degree in computers like I wanted to do about a year and a half ago! Anyway, what does this have to do with the build, you say?? Well, even though I'm about 600 miles away from the model, the model is always in my mind and I can't wait to get back to work on it! I even have a new mural for the back of the sleeper! Thanks to some patience and having my camera on multishot "burst" mode, I was able recently to get this awesome pic of my 1:1 on the outskirts of a thunderstorm in SC! I plan on, after me and the better half get settled and I have my main computer (also at my friend's house) set back up, I'm going to edit the pic and take the 1:1 out and take a pic of the finished model and insert it in the 1:1's place. After I took the pic, I knew the pic would fit perfectly with the trucks lighting theme, and the name of the truck, which will be "Thunderstruck"!

Luc, the front end from the Bronco will work for trucks that were equipped with the Dana 50 front end that used the coil spring suspension, but nothing heavier. All F250HDs and F350s in the late 80s/early 90s like the Revell/Monogram kits (recent reissue of the 250 and the older dually) had the leaf spring suspension and a Dana 60 front axle. Non HD models of the 250 did come with the Dana 50 in those years. Also, just using the rear axle of the F250 or F350 kits as a front axle IS NOT a correct mod!! The kits use the Ford 10.25 rear axle, not a Dana 60 as commonly thought. The Ford 10.25 axle is ONLY a rear axle, Ford used the Dana 60 for the heavy duty F250s and all F350s for front axles on the 4x4s. I know for sure the axle in the kits are the Ford 10.25 rear ends because I have confirmed it by matching the rear end in the kit to my own 1:1 1990 F350 equipped with the Ford 10.25 rear axle.

Hi everyone from Columbia, SC! I'm hanging around the NC, SC, GA, and FL areas right now running a temporary dedicated account from here in Columbia. I figured I'd share an awesome pic I took Friday night while on the outskirts of a thunderstorm. I already have a plan to use this pic for a mural on my custom Ford too! After the rig is completely finished after I come off the road and can build again, I'm going to take a pic of it at the same angle as the 1:1 is, then photoedit the model in place of the 1:1, plus maybe get rid of the rest area building in the background!

Anybody built the Italeri Ford LTL 9000?
highway replied to BigBad's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have one in progress that I'm building as a custom, and the only thing I have found is that the hood doesn't fit evenly unless held in place by the hood straps, like in this mockup pic of my build: The only other advice I can think of offhand is, since the cab is a multipiece cab, I used the floor as a jig to keep the cab straight. Be careful not to glue the floor in by accident, though! -
Moebius Models Great Dane reefer update
highway replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Hmmmm, just if I can find a container or two of these sitting around unattended my truck just might have to make it disappear LOL!!! Just kidding, but I know I have to find a hobby shop to get my rig into and get a few!! By the way, is the reefer going to have any engine detail? I got some nice pics of a newer model ThermoKing unit at the Walcott Truckers Jamboree for detailing ideas. -
Hi everyone, I just spent the past couple days in Walcott at the Iowa 80 Trucker's Jamboree, and took pics of (almost) every truck there. The internet here at the motel me and my bride to be are staying isn't very fast or reliable, but when I get the chance to have faster and a more stable connection, I'll upload the pics to Photobucket and put a link to the album once it is made. For the fans of old iron, there are many old trucks, and one of my favorites was an old Dodge rig. Another very unusual piece of old iron was a strange looking 1974 Ryder Paymaster, with a face only a mother trucker could love LOL!! According to the paper in the window, there were only 15 built and of those, only 6 are known to still exist. Also, for everyone with the invites, if I will be around, I'll send you a PM and we'll meet up! Back to the internetless road in the morning!

It really isn't too bad. I have a great dispatcher and she does her best to keep me moving. The only small problem as of late is the hot weather, as Werner stopped putting APU's on their trucks and they watch the idle time through the Qualcomm. If I'm not moving and not taking my 10 hr break, the truck is supposed to be shut off. If they had something better than the Espar bunk heater my truck is equiiped with and something to cool the truck without idling the engine, everything would be great. I'm actually waiting for the cool weather to come just so I don't have to have the weekly call from the dispatcher about my high idle time LOL! I'm even thinking of buying a truck from them just to not hear the high idle speach LOL!!

Howdy y'all from the shadow of the Gateway Arch in East St. Louis IL! I'm still on the road and not building, and with this being the case, I have added this to the first post on the first page: EDIT: DUE TO LIFE ON THE ROAD CRUISING THE NATION IN MY 1:1, THIS BUILD WILL NOW HAVE AN ENDING DATE OF TO BE ANNOUNCED!!! I HAVE VERY LIMITED INTERNET ACCESS AND WILL CATCH EVERYTHING UP ONCE I COME OFF THE ROAD AND ANNOUNCE A NEW END DATE AT THAT TIME!!!! Feel free to keep building, and once I do come off the road again, I will start building again and figure up a new ending date and then FINALLY we will have the MCM truck show! By the way, if anyone is going to Walcott for the Iowa 80 Trucker's Jamboree on July 12 and 13, I hope to see you there! I've already made plans to take time off there for the show! I plan on taking a LOT of pics to get some new build ideas!

Well, things have changed here!! As some of you may or may not know, or if you had even noticed I don't post here anymore, I'm back to driving trucks instead of building them here. I had a very rough time in December 2011, I lost my home I was renting with my now ex fiancee, and more or less went from everything (except for a job) to nothing in the matter of a few days. Since I was without work, soon to be homeless, and alone because my ex decided moving back in with her mom and dad was more important to her than staying with me, I made a phone call and got everything (except for relationship LOL) back in one phone call. This is my home on the road, which is currently calling Virginia Beach home for the night. This pic was taken in Lafayette, IN as I was picking up a brand new trailer from the Wabash National factory. My truck was the first to pull it for Werner. Of course, I still have building in the back of my mind every day and keep finding ideas while I cruise the country bringing everyone their goods, and there might just be something in your house right now that got there thanks to being in my truck first! A couple of ideas are building a wind turbine blade transporter my fiancee (yes, I have a new one since Dec LOL) spotted at a truckstop in OH over the Memorial Day weekend. This is my truck beside the blade. Another not so glamorious haul, but a cool build idea, was the tipper my trailer took a ride on while unloading a load of CT trash to a landfill in OH, not very far from my hometown. If anybody is interested in the blade trailer, I did take some detail pics, but I will warn you now, I DON'T HAVE MUCH INTERNET ACCESS!!! I'm hoping near the end of this year I'll be back to a normal home with 24 hour internet access, so I'll post them later this year if anyone is interested. Well, that's all for now, I have to get some sleep to be ready to leave in the morning for parts unknown and find out where home will be tomorrow night. Who knows, it might be your hometown LOL!!

Master List of kit info! (start)
highway replied to bandit1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, um, I don't know! At the time of me typing this, my kits are over 1,000 miles away from me in a storage unit in WV and I'm sitting behind the wheel of my house that Peterbilt in Omaha, NE!! It may be a long time before I can get those numbers to you.
