  2. Yeah, not a fan of desktop units. That'll change as the technology gets better though. I like the printing services since many of my peices are larger than the bed size.
  3. I'm pretty happy with Shapeways. There will be more Shapeways like services that will pop up as the prices for the machines continue to come down. I've used Quick Parts, Protolabs, Solid Concepts. Keep in mind, SLA parts are not archival! They are not solid materials and will eventually warp. Best to mold and cast those parts. FDM and SLS are fine. SLS is hard to sand (can use super glue as a sealer)
  4. Thank you. No, this is all new. I don't know who that was, but I remember the one by Joel Dirnberger. That was when I was in high school almost 20 years ago I'm doing this for myself, but I might sell a few since I have the molds. With as many parts as this has, it will probably be the most expensive 1/24th scale resin kits in history. Car guys don't spend as much as other modeling genres. I doubt I can sell very many
  5. Thanks Guys! Hey Chief Joseph, It was a 3D Systems SLA 5000.

  7. Also, I am tinkering with some of the extra bodies to do a Tahoe and Escalade. By the way, if anyone has some masters for sale, rent, or trade, please let me know. I might be interested. Thanks - Rob
  8. I didn't say I built the master. I didn't say nothing from a kit will fit. Anyway, a good builder can make do with other interiors or simply slam it. I may make an interior someday but not now. I cast the body for myself, someone wanted one so I did it for him. If others want one, that's cool. If no one else wants one, that's cool too. If someone is willing to trade me some interior work for resin, let me know. Yes, $75 is high. I said before, it is expensive. But labor (prepping parts, staging the mold, mixing and pouring the rtv, demolding, mixing and pouring resin) and materials (resin, rtv silicone, equipment) are expensive. I've decided to not give away my items like I have done in the past. I still do it for fun and will not profit, but I won't loose money or work for $3 per hour. I would rather sell 2 or 3 at a higher price and break even than sell 20 at a low price and loose labor time and money. I value my time and skill and I put that value into my parts. A body like this with no pinholes, bubbles, or even flash will save at least a few hours on build time. How much is 2 hours worth for a model builder? $15 per hour x2 = $30 maybe? Anyway, the person who would want to buy this wants it because they like things that are different, or they own a real one and is willing to pay more. If they don't want to spend the money or can't afford it, they will pass and buy something else. No big deal.
  9. I tried the Jada Tahoe, and that's too tall. Maybe if i cut it down a bit, however it is really simplified.
  10. Hey Guys, I wanted to know if anyone was interested in a resin kit I made. I made a few for myself, but someone in my club wanted one as well so I figured I would ask around. The item is a GMC Yukon in 1/25th scale. 2006 to 2014. It will include a body, clear glass, upper and lower grille, headlight and taillight inserts (that need to be painted in chrome, chrome plated, or foiled), clear headlight and taillights, roof rack, running boards, wipers, and handles. Resin color will be a light grey or white. The grill has a blemish on it, so I will remold that. The photo of the clear parts will be posted on Tuesday This will be professionally cast (not my in my garage) by the prototyping company I work for. Cost will be $75 Sorry for the high price, but time is money and this takes time and expensive materials to make. I would need at least 10 interested buyers to make this happen. If it's a go, I won't collect payment until it is ready to ship. Builder must supply the interior, chassis, and wheels. I'm not sure what will fit, but the Escalade parts may work. If I find a kit somewhere, I will try it. 11. Thanks. Yep, I used two Optimus Rams becuase the roof and windshield were originally molded together
  12. Thanks Casey. No, it's an original build, accurate to the real one. That old Aurora kit was way out of scale. Otherwise, the body was really nice.
  13. Hello all, Here are some photos of my test castings for my 2008 Dodge Ram SRT 10 and Amphicat in 1/24th and 1/12th scales. The Amphicat was used in SPace:1999 and Banana Splits. Release date will be around January 2013. Test castings for the Dodge parts are not good enough, so I'll be remolding this one. Comes with cab, bed, bumpers, spoiler, side mirrors, and bucks for do it yourself vacuform windows and lights. If I'm able to get it done well, I'll do clear resin for these parts. The Amphicat molds are in good shape. Comes with body and wheels. Enjoy! More photos to come as I slowly progress...
  14. Hello all, If you live in SoCal (I'm in San Diego) and would like to learn the art of resin casting and mold making, I might be interested in talking to you. I need some shop help. I work a normal job, but I'm planning to do resin casting full time. I'll give you lessons in return for helping me. After the learning period (agreed upon by both of us), you can start charging me (or anyone else interested in your services) to make extra money. What you'll be helping with: Staging model parts for molding Clay work building boxes and other containers for molds measuring and mixing rtv pouring molds using a vacuum pump and pot cleaning equipment and tools helping with master patterns - sanding, prepping, polishing, etc measuring and mixing resin using a pressure pot casting customer service, fulfillment, and on line marketing and more After you learn the craft, you'll be an independent contractor. I'll have small paid jobs for you. You can also take other jobs since people are always looking for resin casters. This is a fun craft, with lots of potential. If anyone is interested, please PM me. Thank you in advance My e-mail is robert burns jr101 (at) yahoo (dot) com
  15. After much deliberation (and sifting through this section), I've decided to use these parts and make a more accurate Movin On Kenworth. There's a lot of excellent information on the board. The only thing better is the quality of the models and modelers. Here's what I've learned so far from the threads: Pilot version: Nose From AMT Cab From Revell Germany Chassis From AMT - Shorten (not sure how much yet, but will research it) Sleeper 36" From AMT Engine VT903 from International Transtar or resin cast the NCT 350 from this AMT kit Tanks From AMT - Shorten (not sure how much yet, but will research it) Battery Boxes Not sure yet - maybe from Revell Germany Stack and Breather From Revell Germany - Passenger side only Front Wheels From AMT Rear Wheels Budd 5 Hole wheels - (resin only?) Rear Suspension Torsion Bar from the Watkins W925 or resin Front Suspension From AMT Front Bumper From Revell Germany Decals Not sure yet Series version: Nose From AMT Cab From Revell Germany Chassis From Revell Germany (not sure if it's stock length yet) Sleeper 60" From Revell Germany Engine VT903 from International Transtar or resin cast the NCT 350 from AMT kit Tanks From AMT Battery Boxes Not sure yet - maybe from Revell Germany Stack and Breather From Revell Germany Front Wheels From Revell Germany ? Rear Wheels From Revell Germany ? Rear Suspension Torsion Bar from the Watkins W925 or resin Front Suspension From AMT Front Bumper From Revell Germany Decals Not sure yet Thanks everyone, Rob
  16. Good Eye Wagoneer81! Correct again. They're lunar landers from the 1/144th scale Airfix Saturn V. I love it too. The research is part of the fun when making these models.
  17. Hey Tim, the parts are new. When it's combined with parts from a K123, would it be converted into a different type of W925? What do I do about the missing air cleaner? I'm not a truck guy, so I don't know all the various conversions. Thanks

  21. I'd like to so something with the overall model, but what do you need? If it's something I can spare, I might be able to give them to you.
  22. Hello Everyone, I just bought an AMT Movin' On W-925 to kitbash for parts on a spaceship model I'm working on. I don't want to waste the rest of the kit and would like to do something cool with it. I know very little about truck modeling. Any ideas would be appreciated. The parts that will be missing are: Engine (okay since I will glue the hood shut) driveshafts side air cleaners a few crossmembers one wheel inner and outer Also, are there any parts from this kit that are worth anything to other builders? The nose or sleeper? I cast parts and could easily throw a part in to get molded. Thank you in advance.
  23. If anyone finishes one, I can cast it. I'm also looking for builders to do other extended and crew cab pickups. Please e-mail me at robertburnsjr101@yahoo.com if you have any comments. Thanks, Robert
  24. I sent you a PM. Please PM back if you are still interested. Thanks
  25. Cool! Are you going to make it an opening trunk or do an El Camino? Thanks, R
