I like it! That's a good looking W900... -
Thanks guys, I knew you'd all appreciate these. I'm still giddy over this deal... I have all sorts of ideas for these. I have a second unbuilt gravel trailer... I'm going to scratchbuild a tandem dolly and make up a set of gravel doubles... I'm seriouly thinking about cutting down the Paystar logger to pull them. I have a resin front-drive axle and transfer case... Hmmm..... I could use the logger hardware on another chassis without any difficulty... the 2500 series is going to get a 24' low-side bed and markings for a steel salvage/scrap company... The Paystar dump is going to get painted red and I'm going to fabricate a 3rd tag axle for it. Both Transtar COE's will be restored in stock configuration. One will get a van trailer and the other will pull one of my tanker trailers. The 352 Pete will get cut down to single-screw configuration and will be built as a mobile home tugger... I may use the logging gear on one of the 4300's... somewhere I have a 36" sleeper that may end up gracing one nof the other 4300's... As for the K100, I'll bash it with a W900 'snap kit', lengthen the frame to take a 10' condo behind the cab and build a matching 40' dropdeck for it... YAY!!! I started tearing down the blue/white 4300 and found everything that was missing off of it in the parts box... The chrome parts are soaking in Windex and I'm working on straightening the frame.... And one final question... Several of these trucks are equipped with 903 Cummins engines. Has anyone ever done an article on detailing this engine?
-
Roy, The K-100 Aerodyne is my favorite style truck of ANY era! It's looks and lines just talk to me... I've done some 'silly but brave' things in my modeling lifetime but never would have thought to convert a Conventional into a COE... Much less, in 1/16 scale... scratchbuilt interior and engine to boot... what engine did the kit have in it originally?
-
I did some horse trading with my buddy who owns the LHS in Muncie and brought these home for a steal! There is also a large box of parts. Whatever parts these trucks are missing can be found in that box. These are all 'Complete' they just need some TLC... On the right, is an AMT gravel trailer... The K-100 Aerodyne has had the back half of the frame crushed. That's ok, I have plans for whats left... Three 4300's... The blue kit has air-ride susp. the Yellow one is equipped with a Hendrickson walking-beam set up... Two Paystar 5000's and a Pete 352. The Paystar on the right was a log truck. The parts are in the partsbox... Two of my Grail Kits!!! Need I say more?!? And the final International... Can anyone tell me about this one? It looks like a 2500 series but I've not seen this kit before... Well, all I can say is that I'm as tickled as a man in a bag of feathers... I'm going to be busy for a while restoring these. Aquiring this collection has breathed new life into this hobby for me. I've already started tearing down the blue/white and Yellow trucks and hope to have updates for you very soon!

I did a little horse trading with my buddy that owns the LHS in Muncie... Three International 4300's AMT Gravel Trailer Pete 352 Two International Paystar 5000's Part of a Revell K-100 Aerodyne. (The parts that count) another Intenational, model unknown to me... And two of my 'Grail Kits'... and International Transtar and an International Transtar II!!!

Sweet! I saw what you started with... You definitely made a silk purse from a sow's ear! That's a pretty little car!

Well, I've seen some good points in this thread and respect the opinions of all who commented and have decided that I'm still going to buy and build a Lonestar... I love a build that is a challenge, that is what makes this hobby fun for me. I can see that this kit will be a challenge but, I have worked with worse... I have, in fact, built the Accurate Miniatures M8B MacLaren...lol! That engine and driveline was sooooo much fun! I also appreciate Moebius and Dave's attitude toward their customers. Harry said it best in his post so I don't have to repeat it... Dave, thanks or the in-progress pics. I've saved them and will refer to them during my build. Keep on building!!!

John, I watched this build and must say that you turned out another masterpiece! This is absolutely beautiful and very well executed. I learn something new from everyone of your builds and this one was no exception. Keep up the great work!

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
Wagoneer81 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
You, sir, need to read Harry Turtledove's "World War" series... It starts during WWII when early British radar operators start seeing 'Bogeys' or 'Radar glitches' flying at Mach2+ above 80,000'... Long story short, in mid 1943, Earth is invaded by 'The Race'... a reptilian species from another part of our galaxy... Doc, like I said, I've had this idea bouncing around in my noggin for quite some time (Over a year, I'm afraid....) so the storyline has had time to develop. Hmmm, maybe one of the Interdimensional races involved in the conquest of our galaxy has the technology to reanimate the dead as a handy, plentiful source of combat troops... Shoot, it's still developing!!! This build will give me the opportunity to finally work out a few ideas in scale... I shall have pictures soon! My Dad had surgery Thursday (A very successful one, I'm happy to add...) and is still recovering but he's home again and things are settling down so I should be getting back to the bench very soon! -
2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
Wagoneer81 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
OK, I'm in! I've had an idea bouncing around for a while and this'll be the perfect reason to build it! Since money is very tight and I have an extensive parts inventory, I'll be building mine in the style of the Post-apoc era... completely from parts and materiels that I have on hand. I see an Oshkosh-ish 6x6 powered by a 12v71 Detroit with a live-drive front axle, heavy walking-beam rear tandem and flotation tires on all axles. The reason behind this heavy a vehicle is this: The date is August, 2017. Five years after First Contact... Three years after the entry of Earth into the Second Interdimensional/Intergalactic War... A group of Earth Partisan Fighters, resisting the Alien occupation of our planet have scavenged several pieces of alien technology. Namely a 2500Kw Ion Cannon, a Matter/Anti-matter reactor chamber and Ion-pulse generator. This Ion cannon is powerful enough that its use on anything with a mass smaller than an Airbus A380 is overkill... and has an effective range of 300 miles, including the ability to track and destroy vessels in Low-Earth-Orbit...The problem is linking the alien components together and getting them to work with the current Human technology available... I'm seeing a power generator powered by a 3406 Cat, a coolant pump run by a smaller gas engine, a shielded reactor chamber and coolant tanks, weapons systems console... I'll post component pictures as soon as I collect them... As far as secondary weapons go, in 1/24-25, I have 1 M1919-A3, 2 MG-34's, 2 Mauser 98k's 2 MP-40's, a Thompson Sub-gun a 12-pump and a double-barrel shotgun... The 1919 will be mounted in a ring above the passengers seat on the tractor and the 2 MG-34's will be mounted in the bed of a 'Technical'... In other words, a pickup truck converted into a gun truck... I have the missles and mounts from a 1/32 scale F-14A that might get mounted on a third chassis as a 'Point Defense' style vehicle... (Hmm.... I wonder where I put that 'Jurrasic-Park' Humvee kit...)I have the material to build several Vulcan-style miniguns as well... Well, It's time for me to start digging... This oughtta be fun as most of my stuff is in a storage unit... I'll post pics when I have something to take pics of... O Ohh, I BLAME YOU, DR. CRANKY1!!!!!!!! WHEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
sjordan2, The result bar is under the photo of the car... Some of them don't have any votes so the bar doesn't show up clearly... I really like that blue '62 T-Bird... That was my vote.

International S Series F-2674
Wagoneer81 replied to Mopar - D's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very nice flatbed. I like it! -
Yeah! When I first saw the name of this thread, I immediately had visions of a classic Mustang being stretched to its absolute mechanical limits by Dirk (With a frightened passenger or two, usually of the beautiful and female persuasion...) being chased up a winding mountain road by a trio of Mercedes-Benzs' luxury SUV's full of desperate, automatic-weapon wielding terrorists with no regard for human life... I'm liking this build. I will gladly watch it through to completion...

Darin, Your post brought me to tears because I do know what you are facing.... Know that you, your wife and your family are in my prayers. Dads as well. We lost Mom back in August so... we know.... If you need to talk to someone, to vent, holler, rant and rave or other, please, don't hesitate to PM me and we will go from there. You are among friends who will stand by and behind you through this. Be strong, my friend, Chris

A MOST POST-APOCALYPSE 2012 TO YOU TOO
Wagoneer81 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Post-apoc Community build? I've had a wild idea bouncing around upstairs for some time now... I. Am. In! I've wanted to build a large assault vehicle using only parts and material that I have at hand, just like one would do after civilization falls. Nothing will be bought for my build. I've been going through my 'Junkyard'... parts boxes and bins and such. So far, I have dug up a 12v71 Detroit diesel, a heavy duty Front-Drive axle and transfer case, a 55,000# 72" spread Hendrickson tandem suspension for the rear and 10, 22"x14" flotation-style wheels and tires... I'm thinking of fabbing an 18" frame, an Oshkosh-style cab and making it a crazy-big weapons platform... Add in some scavenged 'exotic' weapons and power systems from an 'Area-51-ish' type of installation cobbled together with earthly technology to make them functional... It's just a thought... -

A MOST POST-APOCALYPSE 2012 TO YOU TOO
Wagoneer81 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There were a few .50cal or 12.7mm anti-tank guns built that were top fed. AgentG has the right idea...those would be a great place to start. I know what kit I'm gonna look for... -Also, the Hasegawa Type 82 Kubelwagen comes with TWO EACH: 98k Mauser rifles, MG-34's (side fed with drum mags), Panzershreks, MP40 'grease guns', 'potato masher' grenades and a driver figure with a separate German helmet. These would be GREAT Post-Apoc weapons. -The Hasegawa Army Jeep kit offers a nice M1919 .30cal, pedestal mounted machinegun... I think the .50cal belts from 1/35 weapons sets would make good .30cal belts in 1/25. -The older Monogram 'Gangbusters' '28 Lincoln kit has a crude Thompson Subgun.
