Excellent! I love it when I can inspire someone... Lord knows I can return that favor as you all have inspired me on more than one occasion! I'd say start out with three sheets of .040, maybe four and one of .080 for the inner floor and roof panels... especially if you're going to build rear fenders and an interior. In my opinion, you can never have too much sheet styrene laying around. If you have it as extra, you'll be more easily tempted to start another project with it... In fact, I'm getting ready to make an order for a sheet of .040 that's 40" x 72"... and one of .060 of the same size... Just as soon as i get the extra dough to do it... Please, post pics of your build and don't hesitate to ask questions to me or anyone else on this Forum! Yeah, I've been inspired too... I have a few days work left on the New Dodge Charger I'm building. When it clears the bench, the 359's coming back out. I've decided it's going to pull the 53' dropdeck flatbed that I kitbashed from the AMT Lowboy trailer...

Do you know who Norman E. Timbs is? Updated Dec 13, 2011
Wagoneer81 replied to Peter Lombardo's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Peter, are you using a photo hosting site? I use the photohosting sites, Tiny Pic and Photobucket. They're free and I have never had any issues when it comes to posting pics to this site. In fact, I just posted a couple in a build thread in Model Trucks about 30 minutes ago and had no problems. I understand fully how frustrating it can get when things start working against you, especially if they were working before. I hope you can resolve this soon as I am really enjoying watching your work... -
OK, installment number two... Here's the basic interior... The floor is .080 sheet. The seats are from the parts box, the rest is mainly .040 sheet and scraps from the parts bin. My plan is to hang a bunk above the couch at the back of the sleeper and it will be assumed that the couch folds out into another futon-style bed. The large closet is the shower/water closet, RV-style. The clothes closet is behind the single seat. Here I've built the rear fenders and am making progess on the bunk... ....And one of the new aluminum fuel tanks. This was one of the first things I turned on my, at the time new, mini-lathe. These pictures were taken about two years ago... I've moved twice since then and this Pete still isn't finished. The good news is that it and all its parts were packed in a box with several other projects that I want to finish (Including Snowmans W900 and trailer...) and is here at my new place and not in storage. This may just be the motivation I need to dig the beast out of the closet and finally finish it...

Very nice old Police Cruiser! You're skills are sharpening up nicely. That is a very clean, very nice paintjob. The details are subtle like they are supposed to be, and overall, this car has that 'just right' look to it that others have commented about on other topics. Bravo Zulu, Well Done!

The Corvair is absolutely crazybad! Neatest design I've seen in ages, and very well executed. I wouldn't be afraid to drive the real thing... Now, on to the Corvette.... In my 32 years of modeling I have seen several cars that have turned my head, several that have left me thinking, 'Why?' or 'what were you thinking/smoking/drinking?' And several that impressed me so much that I wanted them for myself... But this car just grabs me by my hotrod racer parts and doesn't let go! I want one! I am going to steal your pics and someday, build my own version of what the perfect roadracer should be... Job very well done! I can't wait to see what comes from your fertile, jumbled, warped mind next!

You thank us for watching this build... We truly enjoyed it! I truly thank you, Virgil, for taking the time to put everything together in the Audio/Video aspect to show what you are putting together in the Plastic aspect... your videos are true gifts that inspire me to build... Not go wacko nuts, throw away the directions, out of the box, forget the box build... but to simply get the energy and focus together to actually build a nice, fun model... have a pleasant couple of hours at the workbench doing something I'm good at but sometimes lack the energy or dexterity to tackle. And I thank you for that, Virgil, I truly thank you! You and several others keep this hobby fresh and hopping and it is ALL greatly appreciated and taken in as fun, entertainment and inspiration! Guys, This is what the Pharoh took out on Date night with is number one girl... Ya know, gotta get away from the city for a bit, find a little secluded spot down by the Nile... Have a little honey mead, some unleavened bread, a nosh of goat cheese... Maybe see if he can talk her into trying for an heir to the throne... Ahh, what a life.... Massively crazy, Virgil! I am blown away. My weird-o-meter pegs out every time I look at your stuff! I keep breaking them. Wonderful! You have a follower, here. Now; the question; Who is crazier? The Nut? or the Nut who follows him? BLARAHAHAHAHAHAHA *EAErp* *cough* *Hack* *sshhhnorrnk* ....... Whoooo *Wipes Forehead*.. ok, I'm better now...really! Well done!

Pics of my Dad's Models
Wagoneer81 replied to ARTEMIS1759's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Man!!! I have dreams about finding boxes like these... I'm either in someones attic or basement and they tell me, 'take them with you, they're just taking up space...' Talk about waking up disappointed ... That's a great collection, soooo many possibilities... Sooo many rare models... I saw a coulple of related threads before seeing this one... This makes me appreciate those more than ever... -
Since I posted in another thread the picture of the grey and red Revell 359 Pete with the stretched sleeper, several people have asked me about the sleeper. I figured I'd go ahead and post a few of the build pics showing how I stretched the truck and built the sleeper. This is just one way of doing things, but it worked well for this type of kit making for a very rigid and sturdy assembly... The first thing I did was measure and cut the new sides out of Evergreen .040. I used the tape edges as guides when I cut the sleeper apart. this helped insure that my cuts were straight and true. Here's where we are after cutting away the old sleeper sides and positioning the new. When gluing in the new sides, make sure that everything is square and, most importantly, flat. The floor is not fastened at this point because I needed to build up the new sleeper interior on it. The floor is just taped in to assure that everything ended up square. When I cut the frame, I cut it and the sleeper floor right down the middle of the floor. This kits frame is one of the easiest to stretch because it doesn't have any flanges. I added those with syrene strip, front to back and used .040 for the framerail sides and the new sleeper floor... This is a good angle to show the pieces that were added to the frame and floor. You can see that I superglued a piece of brass channel into the inside of the framerails. This really stiffened the structure. Once again, remember to keep everything flat and walk away from it until the glue is good and cured otherwise your frame will develop a permanent twist... The grey crossmember pieces are just for detail as the .040 plastic is plenty rigid enough not to sag... ... And here we have things starting to come together. I made the roof panels out of .080 sheet because I didn't want to take any chance of the roof sagging over time... I hope these help, I hope I have answered questions, created more questions, or inspired someone to stretch their skills out and try something different. These Revell Pete and W-900 kits are good places to start because their inexpensive and very easy to work with. I'll post more pictures soon on building up the interior and finishing said sleeper.

Cirque Du Cranky Presents: THE SPHYNXTER
Wagoneer81 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Cool, thanks! Just what the Good Doctor ordered... -
I really like what you did with the B-pillars! Reworking them to mimic the C-pillars was an awesome idea. Makes the car seem to 'flow' more than with the vertical pillars. I like it so much, I'm going to steal that design element when I build mine...

Anyone here play guitar?
Wagoneer81 replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ohh, ohh, ohh... That one's easy on the eyes... I'll bet it has a really beautiful, mellow tone... Christian, what's the make and model? On the topic of, 'Who plays...', I have a nice Fender acoustic, have taken lessons, was getting to know my way around pretty well... Just lost the urge to play after Mom died... I know I'll pick it up again someday. I like the sound of a well picked guitar too much to let it go completely -

I think I have it figured out... Doc, yer not supposed to inhale when you smoke a cigar...What we're seeing is the results of a constant nicotine high... I look forward to seeing more! -

Pro Star and 53 ft Great Dane reefer
Wagoneer81 replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! *wringing hands together and chortling in best 'mad scientist' impersonation* My wallet just walked into the room, threw its little hands up in the air and said, "That's it! I quit! You use me and use me until theres nothing left but a big empty space inside me... I'm outta here!!!" Dave, the last time I was this excited about a new kit was when you announced the Lonestar... Between Moebius' new kits and Round2's numerous heavy commercial reissues, it is a wonderful time to be a truck modeler! I'll start saving now... I'll need a Pro-Star and at LEAST half a dozen of the reefer kits... It's a good thing Dad and I are adding a shop addition onto the garage this spring... Chunky Boy, here, (me) is gonna need the room! If I were physically able to do so, I'd dance a jig right here and now! -

Wagoneer81 replied to truckabilly's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Wow! Looking at the pictures of the pivot plate and outriggers, I can smell the grease and hydraulic oil! I feel like I need to wash my hands... The detailing and weathering are beautifully done! Very well done! Bravo!!! -
Yeah, I paint in the garage too, and I never paint when it's raining. I've ruined to many paintjobs that way... We're looking forward to seeing new pics! You say in your first post that this is only your second model. You picked the perfect forum to join as a new modeler. This is a really good group of people and will answer just about any question you have. Don't hesitate to ask questions, as the only dumb question is the one that remains unasked... You'll find the Private Message feature will become your best friend!

Ohh boy!!! This'll be a good one! I look forward to more! And, having just checked out the Fotki site, I am amazed and blown away... This is one beautiful, very unique design. I see numerous possibilites with this body other than the masterfully done roadster that it is... -
