Well, I see SEVERAL that I'll be adding to the stash.... '49 Merc Woody Wagon, Atomic Annie, another '37 Ford Panel, The Ballistic Missle set... It's such a GREAT time to be a model builder! We live in a wonderful age!!!

I can chime in here.... I haven't seen the movie in years but I did find some good stills from it... This model is correct. In the movie, the 5th wheel is in the rear position. The wheel is a hi-mount because of the design of the old trailer. Usually, when they move the connection back on the tractor it's because of clearance issues between the back of the tractor chassis and the landing gears on the trailers. The first time I pulled a dropdeck van trailer, I had to slide my 5th-wheel back almost a foot from where I usually have it...(Thank the Maker it was a sliding and not fixed wheel...) it was either that or remove my tractors mudflaps... If you look at stills from the movie, it looks like, if the 5th was in the normal position, the rear of the tractor chassis would get fouled in the trailers landing gear assembly... As far as unbalancing the load, My truck rode a little different but still 'scaled' under weight because I wasn't anywhere near gross. Maybe the trailer in the movie was empty? As for the model, Doobie, Well Done! I want to build one of these someday and I hope mine turns out half as nice! EDIT: This got me thinking so I just finished watching the movie on YouTube... I don't think it would have fouled the landing gears but maybe the frame of the trailer itself? Either that or it just looks good... Well, it is what it is...

I love deals like this! I've gotten a few and, personally, it just make the hobby more fun than usual! Great steal!!! I've done that with a new Monogram 1926 AC Mack for $.99 and a Minicraft 1/350 Titanic, factory sealed for $9.99....

Sweet! A dromedary flatbed on the tractor would give you parking for another car...

Nice combination! I have one of these trailers. It really wasn't that bad of a build. It just took a lot of patience and a LOT of masking tape to hold everything together while the glue set up. the most difficult part was painting it after assembly. I didn't paint the inner panels before and it was a beast to get paint into certain areas... Considering you get a place to display 4-5 cars, $50 isn't really a horrible price. Then again, I say this after picking mine up for $30... I'd really like to see this trailer kit reissued.

Sweet 'N Low!!! I like it! Thank you for not messing with the body proportions... People keep trying to make this body style better by chopping or sectioning... You just can't improve on perfection! Your styling mods are very subtle. I love the way you flowed the rolled pan into the rear fenders and how you smoothed the seames on the front fenders. I've never been a real fan of slammed trucks or cars. They have to be something really special to get my attention.... I have to say, pink and all, I'd have no issues being seen in this one and would be proud to own a 1:1 version of this truck.

I'm kinda partial to the old 5-window. I'd love to have one in original condition. Silly me'd make it a daily driver....

I think if that were truly the case, as it refers to the subject of this thread, we'd all be happy with Palmer quality kits... Unless I'm going completely custom or freelance, I want the kit I build to look as close to the real thing as posssible. That, IMO is not to much to ask from a 'scale replica'...

Plain Jane... I love it!!! Chrome looks good but does nothing for performance. I say put your money where it does the most good... In the driveline! I LOVE no-nonsense trucks with the get-the-job-done attitude that this one has. I also love the fact that a lot of these plain looking trucks could outwork, outpull and outperform the fancier, tricked out 'large cars'.

That's because you are a Super Man! And, quite possibly, don't understand that other people can feel differently than you... Let me enlighten you, My Friend. Some people have this nasty little disorder called Claustrophobia (myself included) and the tight interior of an MRI or CT machine can be a frightening, very unnerving place. If I can't turn around in the area, or have the room to move my hand or arm over my head, or if the surface of the enclosure is inches from my face, it's too tight and SEVERE anxiety and low-mid level panic kick in, most times, uncontrolably. It's a basic Fight or Flight reaction. If the person in question is overweight like I am, the situation is even worse. At 260lbs, They almost have to shoehorn me into it. My shoulders are so wide, (56") I have to go in with one arm over my head, I don't fit otherwise. FYI, I've had three MRI's and 5 CT scans in the last three years... they do get easier and I can overcome my fears fairly easily but... they are still anxiety raising experiences. Onto the model... Sorry for drifting off target... Douglas, I've considered building one of these myself, I'm glad to see you stepping up and taking the reigns. I like what's been done, so far. I'll be watching this one, closely! This will also be a good tutorial on how to build your basic dropdeck van...

Unfortunatly, safely and securely packing an item for shipment, a lot of times, comes under the influence of 'common sense' which isn't so common....

I share your pain, in a way, having twice lost a niece and a nephew, way too young. (17 and 22.) PM if you want to talk to someone whose been down this road before.
