Late '40's REO?
Wagoneer81 replied to Chuck Most's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would LOVE to take an old beast like this and transplant a modern Dodge Cummins or Ford Powerstroke driveline into it... Would definitely take care of the power issue. Keep the exterior and cab interior period correct... -
Combining Scales
Wagoneer81 replied to Anirudh Arun's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I regularly interchange 1/24 and 1/25 parts... -
Chuck, you are, most certainly, living up to your moniker! You are a Madman and I love seeing builds like this! Something like this would also make a nice car trailer load... Freshly rescued from the field/barn. Very cool!!!

2000 raglan hopper possible build
Wagoneer81 replied to jekylljr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Definitely doable!!! The thing to remember about scratchbuilding is to break the project down into smaller, basic shapes... This one looks pretty basic. Like Leo said, stock up on Evergreen Strip and sheet and build on! -

Future Freightliner?
Wagoneer81 replied to BigBad's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like the exterior looks. Definitely has an old Ford/ Chevy COE look to it... that's about as far as I go with this one. The single seat, single door? The 24" wide convertible bunk? 'Back door'? Rear facing cameras vs. mirrors? Have any of these engineers ever spent any amount of time in a big rig, over the road? I'd say... no. Looks very uncomfortable for someone who spends any amount of time on the road. It has shorthaul possibilites, that's about all the farther I'd want to take it. Then again, when I was on the road, I might be out for two weeks at a time and rarely saw a hotel room. I did love my 60" double bunks. Center mounted display screen with a menu system? Why not bring back texting and driving for the amount of time you are distracted while scrolling through the menu.. I do like the use of the sculpted LED signal lights and the use of the cold rolled aluminum frame components for weigh savings. I guess it is a decent compromise between the daycab and longhaul sleeper cabs. Having said all this, I am anxious to see where they go with this design, from concept to production. Yes, some very wild concepts and ideas. Applicable for an OTR truck? I don't think so. Just my opinion. Anyone else? This may become a good conversation piece... -

I'd'a jumped on it for that, definitely. You didn't get hurt at all. I love hearing about scores like this! -

Wow! Very nice! Tell her that I've been building for over thirty years and I would be PROUD to have this build in my collection. Very well done!

What Slows Down Your Builds?
Wagoneer81 replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Health... Got the muscle disease beaten into remission and am now having other , as yet unknown issues... Elevated, weak pulse, wonky blood pressure and a general feeling of extreme fatigue and weakness. I go for more tests on Monday. It's bad enough, I didn't even feel like turning on the computer yesterday... still very weak today. Haven't set at my workbench in over three weeks.... unheard of... Not cool when you consider my stash is getting no smaller and I have the 1/350 USS Missouri to finish still, it's a commissioned build but my client is very understanding as he's had serious health issues before... -
Modeling, insomnia and you.
Wagoneer81 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Being that my modeling desk is two steps from my bed, I spend many a late night working on something. I might wake up at 2 am and not be able to go back to sleep. If I don't feel like reading, I'll sit down and work on something... Me and sleep have a funny relationship anyway... It comes around when IT wants to, not when I do... -
imodelkit app
Wagoneer81 replied to Qwit Pushin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll let you guys know how it is. I'm downloading it onto my iPhone3 now! It looks really cool and handy! EDIT: Well, so far so good, the paint chart and paint mixer will take most of the guess work out of custom mixes. I just experimented with mixing Federal Standard 30219, brown with Testors colors. Through about 5 minutes or trial and error, I got a ratio of 11 parts 1226 grey, 18 parts 1133 lt. brown and 4 parts 1114 yellow... This alone, is enough to convince me that this will be a very handy app. -
Detroit Diesel 8V-71s and 8V-92s
Wagoneer81 replied to cavejohnson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep! I was with my father about 18 years back, when he was driving a new a KW T600. He had backed under a trailer, let off the clutch, and forgot he had the Jake Brake on. The engine stalled, sputtered, spit and then came roaring to life... backward! It ran for about 6 seconds before Dad shut it off with the key. It took us a minute to figure out what happened. When we took into consideration that it had started blowing blue smoke from the intake and all the pressure guages suddenly went to zero, we figured it out. It had kicked just right and started running reversed... and that was with a big inline-6 Cat... Didn't hurt the engine any, he went on to put 248,000 on that engine in a little over two years and never had problem one out of it! You'll love the Titan kit. Several have been built by other members and I have one in the works. One thing to look for; The cab sits about an 1/8th inch too high if built per box instructions. You may want to raise the front hinges, up into the cab, that amount. I did it and the result is worth it. -
Dreaming of a model?
Wagoneer81 replied to jmpsebring's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd stand in line for a case of those '48 Jeepsters... This has been a fun thread! And looking back, I'll take a case each of the '63 Wagoneer AND the '46 Willys Jeep Wagon... Man, this thread alone will have me dreaming of new kits... ;^) thanks, gents! "And then he found the '78 Thunderbird..." I drove a '79 for years! It rode great, ran like a top and got decent mileage if I could keep my foot out of it... (Since it had a transplanted 351C, that seldom happened...LOL) -
Sweet! looking good!

Wagoneer81 replied to Hamar's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, you started with a great kit and are certainly doing it justice! I look forward to seeing this one 'under glass'! -
I like it!!!
-
Finish! Definitely FINISH! You have a wonderful, clean start, it'd be a waste to put it back in the box.
-
OK, I really like the looks of this one! I never was a fan of the Revell Speedwagon kit... It just never looked 'right' to me... BUT- This one, looks great! You certainly did it justice. Makes me want to score one of these kits now and play with it in a similar fashion.
-
Very nice! all of them are great concepts! This makes me want to dig out my Series One and give it a twirl... I will be watching this one closely

I knew that Mark was a good, stand-up guy, but I sure didn't know this! *Applause* Way to give something back to our society! Every little thing can have a big influence on things.
