  1. As usual, some interesting vehicles. From classics to muscle cars. It started to rain as I was going through and a lot of the cars' hoods were closed and tops raised. Here's the link to the pics Fathers Day Classic Cars
  2. If you can't find a kit with them. Scale Equipment Limited offers some:
  3. This should be the 20th. The first was in 1990. Haven't been to one since we moved east.
  4. Well, winter looks like it is finally on the way out and the first local car events happened Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the first cruise-in of the season in Rolling Meadows Illinois happened in 80 degree weather and partly cloudy skies. Quite of variety of cars were on hand for viewing: Then, on Saturday, Continental Motors, in Hinsdale Illinois, had a swap meet along with a car display. Continental Motors is a Ferrari/Maserati dealer. Amongst the cars on display were a new California and 599 GTB: Here’s the link to the album. I have the original 5 megapixel images on my home computer if anybody wants more detail of a shot. 2009-04-25 Car Shows
  5. I agree with Bob. Especially on the roll. Back in the early 90's some kid rolled a model of mine off the table at a contest. After that, no more turning of the wheels. But square on and stance are the most important. Gerry
  6. That's a nice model color. If you're replicating that Spyder exactly, take note of the dash board differences. Here's the one I did about 15 years back: It's a bit dusty as I pulled it out of the moving box. HTH Gerry
  7. No Aftermarket body kits. Crazy Modeler does a very good PE set though. There is a Cooper Works S version (I'm building it now), but that's as far as I know it goes. Gerry
  8. The Gemballa like the other RoG Premium kits were $45 brand new in 1988 - 1990 time frame when I first bought some.
  9. I was searching an online store site and came across these new 20" BBS wheels and tires from Hobby Design. They look very close to the Ferrari BBS rims, so I put in order and will post more when I get them. I can't get a high enough res view of them. Here's a Feraari 599 BBS wheel. Gerry
  10. The back of the model (too square) and the opening doors/trunk gave it away. This was originally issued by Protar.
  11. That's fitting. I didn't mean to imply that SABA didn't run the show. Bob was a part of it. Did he continue the "Best of the Best"? The last show I attended was 2001. I wound up moving to the Chicago area in 2002 for family reasons and still working to get out here. I used to be a member of the PSAMA in Seattle area. Thanks, Gerry
  12. Their WEB Site only shows Grand National Roadster Show and a Sacramento event Hot Rod Shows Who's taking over for Bob Paeth on the Portland Roadster Show?
  13. Bill, Here are some photos I took in mid-1997 at a show at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. I had to dig through the old photos and scan them in. The lighting adds a yellowish tone to the stainless roof. Supposedly, the paint was accurate for the original issue. But, I have no expertise to confirm that. HTH, Gerry
  14. The only time I’ve seen these, or the base Fujimi Garage sets used in the single setup is for a one car display base. Otherwise, you’ll need multiple sets to make a more realistic garage. The set is modular, but a more reasonable approach may be looking at a 2 or 3 bay diorama set from Scale Modeling by Chris.
  15. Looking at the Revell AG site, it appears it may be a straight reissue. Bummer
  16. Since we moved to Illinois from Seattle, I haven't finished a single kit, but have several in the started category. A variety of things contributed to lack of progress, but impediments are finally diminshing (unless something at work sparks up again as it did this year). First finish what I didn't get done this year: Tamiya Ferrari 360 Modena Spider slightly tuned Fujimi Enthusiast Ferrari Dino 246 GTS (the orignal release) Fujimi BMW Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works edition with custom wheels Revell 56 Chevy Del Ray as a street machine Revell 32 Ford Sedan Then start on (not in any specific order): Revell Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, slightly tuned Revell Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, kitbashed with the Fujimi kit, doors, hood and trunk opening Revell 49 Mercury AMT 62 Impala SS Convertible But, plans can always change. And, if if the housing market starts to ease up, we may be looking to speed our departure from Illinois and get back to God's country (assuming the unusual snow back there melts )
  17. All the models, excluding the 360, are good and build well. The 360's are not worth the money. The rest are. If you're a real stickler for detail, you can bash the 430 or 599 with the Fujimi kits. A bit of work, but doable.
  18. IN the Chicago are at the least, Lake Michigan Model Car Club, meets every 3rd Saturday in Bensenville, IL. Then there is CARS in Minature that meets in Crystal Lake, IL the second saturday od the month. FInally, there is GTR Modelers that meets in Crystal Lake, IL on the 3rd saturday of the month. There is a club in ROckford, but can't remember their name. That's all from the top of my head. HTH Gerry
  19. Unfortunately, Yes. Also, I forgot to add that I’m giving permission so you can repost the pics or info on forums, club websites or newsletters. Just please provide an acknowledgement. Thx
  20. Sorry for the delay, but I had a long day yesterday, including our club meeting/open house. Not a lot from Revell for early 2009. Expect more announcements for later 2009. Also, expect the 57 Chevy “Black Widow†after Christmas. No specific announcement dates were given to me. Round 2 (AMT/MPC, etc) was there showing off upcoming reissues. As previously mentioned, some reverse engineering for parts is going on. On the 62 Pontiac Catalina, they’re trying to get the rights to do an Arnie Beswick drag car. There would be new box art if they can make it happen. The Charger police car and more truck kits are probably the most interesting to many of us. The police car sample looked really good and I got some close-ups of the interior. Also, check out the photos the flathead 4 and v8 models. Another entry from Lindberg is new Aqueous paints (no aerosols) that includes car colors as well as military. They’ve also had various airbrushes made to their specifications. The big thing from MRC is that they have the license to bring in anything from Aoshima. That means the cars, wheel sets, etc. I know many of us order from Japan today. Supposedly, MRC is working with Aoshima to get LH dashboards on several of the cars. Sorry, but I wasn’t able to determine if it included newer cars like the Lexus IS350 and Harrier (Lexus RX 350). Testor’s had their new paint colors there. Nothing much new with them. I mentioned about reducing the size of the metallics in the first issue and was told they’re looking into it. Time will time if that was a factual response. Stevens International had a test shot of the Trumpeter 1/12 Ford GT/40 model at the show. No idea on when available or cost. And, Accurate Miniatures restated what they told me last year regarding new car models. It is not in the cards at this point in time. Lots of interesting diecast models, including some pricey stuff like the 1/6 scale 57 Corvette Fuelie from Highway 61. And, there were a variety of HO scale models as well. The make and take was packed as usual. When I was there, we didn’t have any bratty kids like we had last year. This year’s model from Revell was the C5 Corvette Coupe snap kit. The weak link this year was the side view mirrors. We were gluing a lot of them back on. Many kids would snap them when putting the side peel and stick decals on. Finally, some interesting new tools. One is a magnifier attachment set that can be used on a variety of existing tools. I bought a set for $5 and will experiment with it. Second, is a set of tweezers integrated with a LED light that allows you to light up what you’re working. I bought a set for $20 show price and will experiment with those as well. Finally Excel tools had s small cutting disk that looks like it would well for cutting out larger decals (amongst other things). It will be available soon and the rep had only one available, so I couldn’t talk him out of it to try it out. My IHOBBY Expo pictures
  21. Bob is a good friend. Even though I was with the PSAMA, I would get down to Portland often and support the SABA activities. Bob was always there doing how-to's and reminisce about his days at Revell. Learned a lot of history there. I haven’t seen Bob since we moved to this God-forsaken area, but have communicated with him at times. I thought his health was on the mend. One can only pray it is not as bad as is it portrayed. But I’m afraid we’ll be eulogizing him soon. Bon Chance Bob and thank you!
  22. Sorry. Every pic I took is on the site. It was hard to get good shots of a lot of the cars because of the judging, people getting in the way and staying in the way and bringing a group of kids (scout troop?) through and explaining the cars to them.
  23. We’re getting down to the end of outdoor car show season. Today’s event was an invitation only Concours with a variety of classes and an interesting mix of different types of cars. Enjoy the pictures. BTW, the gentleman in one of the photographs is none other than David Hobbs, currently a SPEED commentator and formerly a renowned race car driver. I bit my lip trying not to ask him why he seems so biased towards Ron Dennis and McLaren. Go to the link for the pictures. 2008 Barrington Concours D'Elegance
