The other day at work a young man and I were talking about model cars. He asked me a question that I actually had to stop and think about for awhile. What does it take to Build a Model Car? I had actually never really thought about it as I'm sure a lot of others haven't either. 1- Some, even if just basic, understanding of the subject matter. In my case cars. 2- Desire to build. 3- Patience, lots of patience. But when yo get to this point it's time to list tools other than the obvious, glue and paint. The tools that are used in Model Building would be in a lot of cases a matter of choice, rather than necessary. An exacto knife, sandpaper and ????? would be used by about everyone. What are your thoughts???????

Yeah. I know but I was having trouble getting blade to follow the line I wanted. It wanted to follow the other line for some reason. Oh well, like you said, another lesson learned, partially anyway.

I'm one of those people that enjoy blogging so I guess it was only natural that I would eventually start one about models. Check it out sometime. http://prg5609.blogspot.com

Well I got the BMF on it. Not to awful bad of a job I guess. She is almost done, the next pictures I post will be in Under Glass. Thanks for all the help guys, it was, and always is, appreciated. Comments and suggestions are welcome. There isn't much more to do but I'm done for to-day. Thanks for looking. Happy Modeling.

With the help and advice of many Forum members I actually managed to BMF my first model. Not real happy with it, but then it's the first time so I guess it's not all that bad. Thanks guys, your encouragement and advice was very much appreciated. Thanks again guys I can not thank you enough. Happy Modeling.

BMF, I don't want to do this.

Ok, I have tried BMF. It is a pain in the ??? But it does look better than leaving it body color. Had a real hard time getting blade to stay on track. But heh, at least I'm trying, right. -
OK, I've got the interior done and thought posting pictures would actually be easier now rather then when it's in the car. Any suggestions or comments are welcome. I am really happy with the way this is coming together. Happy Modeling.

I am so pleased with the way the 62 Pontiac is coming along I am actually afraid to try this BMF on it. The paint job is looking real good, I like the interior and the engine area is shaping up nicely. But I guess I have to give it a whirl don't I. Say a prayer, before the day is over it will be foiled.

Appears to be a good, clean and simple build. I like those types, I'll being getting me one or two of these.

Well, I have got the body painted. The engine wired and some work done on the frame and undercarriage. I also picked up a 37 Ford and some Bare Metal Foi. Yes I'm going to try it. Thanks for looking, comments are welcome.

Very good build, realistic. Wish I had a grandpa like that.

Last weekend I started working on a model I had set aside for awhile. During the week I researched the 60 Ford Starlijner. Colors, wiring and so forth. Stripped the model of paint and primer it. Went to work with it today and was amazed at how well the brown and creme paint came off. Though I was confused about where the blue paint came from. Something is wrong here. The interior was painted brown, now it's blue. Well, that could be because I'm working on a 61 421 SD Pontiac. I've simply lost it.

I actually remember building that T-Bird many, many years ago. No idea what happened to it. Nice collection.

In my teenage years I spent many an hour wandering about junkyards in Cincinnati, Ohio. There are actually many good memories of those times. I would quite often see cars such as your Chevy and wonder how could someone do that, it could have been restored, now it's junk. Great job on this one, though I still don't understand why, it would have made a beautiful model.

How long have you been modeling?
DRG replied to wvsm's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Built models from 1960 to 64 or 65 then started rebuilding my first real car, a 56 Ford Crown Vicky. Just returned last year around this time. -
OK, I got the engine done, the distributor in all I need to do now is finish the plug wires. In this first photo you can see the interior colors I am going with. I also got the body stripped of that lousy paint job. I'm thinking of Marina Blue, it's close to a 62 factory color. Any thoughts or ideas??? Thanks for looking, all comments and suggestions are welcome.

WOW! That model belongs in a showroom with a salesman standing by it ready to sell.

It's coming along really good, Jared. Lots of good memories in a 72 Cutlass.
-
Very good build, but where did you find a 65 Convert.????

Over the past year, almost, the members of this Forum have been very kind and helpful to me in my attempts to build models. I'm sure there have been times when people got a little disgusted with me as it seemed I wasn't improving and in fact still having the same problems. Over the past week I have looked over those models I built in 2010 and some of them are not that bad. I need to try BMF but I don't feel I'm quite ready for that yet. Clean up mold lines, prime and paint a good body. Learn to detail the interior better and so forth. My frustration comes from, not your builds, but from my desires to build that one model that says WOW!. I will get there, God willing and the Creek don't rise. Thank all of you for your patience, kindness and understanding. I pray that I have offended no one.

That is way off the charts, WOW!
-
Wow, that is one nice looking build. Love the paint job and vinyl roof. Engine detail is great, but if memory serves me correct, the positive battery cable goes to a relay then to the starter. I could be wrong, that was a long time ago.

Thank you for the information. At least using the red stuff it may look like a bomb but it won't fall apart easily.
-
I know this is more than likely a stupid question, but I'm trying to use the right glue. I have been using the blue tube but it getting low and I have three tubes of the red. What the heck is the difference???

Ok, late last night, Saturday, I decided to use the 34 Ford Truck as a parts car and drug out this 62 Catalina. The body is sitting in a brake fluid bath to strip the paint. Got a lot of work on the frame and undercarriage to do as well as the interior. Come on guys, give me some ideas, thoughts or rants.
