  1. I will most certainly watch this as a 1940 Ford is my all time favorite model. I would darn near kill for an old AMT 1940 Ford model.
  2. Ok, I'm learning. I decided to get back into modeling after a forty+ year hiatus. I stumbled across this modeling site and have been perusing it's pages for several weeks. In that time I have visited what Hobby Shops I can find here on the Northcoast and am surprised at the lack of models available. It may be more what I'm looking for than anything else. The building supplies most have leave a little to be desired and then of course the price change from forty years ago. I have learned several things on this forum. 1- Moms sewing basket is no longer a good place to find sparkplug wires, same for the wife;s I guess. 2- When you see a model you want buy more than one since they will disappear rather quickly. 3- Seems your better off buying paint and glue from on-line dealers as it will at least be somewhat fresh and not all dried up. 4- Micro-Mark has just about anything you could need in the line of tools and such. I have managed to gather up about 15 models I want to build, the tools are ordered as is the paint and other items needed. ( could get to-day). My first model will NOT be wired and all those other neat little tricks you guys do, it will be a simple paint and build. I want to extend my thanks for all the tips and tricks I have been reading about, they will be of great assistance to me as I progres in model building. A lot of you are true craftsman and the models you build are works of art.
  3. Nice work so far. I really like the blue paint job on this one. My favorite shade of blue is Marina Blue as on a 66 SS 396.
  4. Great job on building this one, I really like it. I also like the fact that those old school plug wires look good to me.
  5. I like it, great job.
  6. Great job on the studs and nuts but to be honest there is no sense in trying to work with something I can not see. Good Lord!
  7. Great job on a great car. But if I may, how do you guys use laquer without burn the plastic??? I love that Marina Blue.
  8. I actually worked at a Rambler dealership many years ago. I worked on and drove the Javelin AMX and the Hurst Rambler. Good Lord I am getting old.

I really like this model. Everything seems just right to me. Great paint and interior work.
  10. It may be it's just that I'm old and sentimental but these cars were built back in the day when they knew how to design and build cars.
  11. Come on guys there is a real simple reason things were simpler in the early sixties, for me. I was ten years old in 1960. No cares, my wants and needs provided by my parents and model cars to build. It don't get no better than that.
  12. First I ordered some tools and other modeling supplies from Micro-Mark Tools. Then I picked up one each of the folowing; AMT- 1949 Ford Lindberg- Model T Pick-up AMT- 62 Catalina Custom AMT- 51 Chevy Belair Conv. AMT- 60 Ford Starliner AMT- 69 GTX Conv.
  13. If that car was green and white I would swear it's my first car.
  14. I tried the link but it does not work, any help out there?
  15. The models I purchased were from Ontario's stores. A long gone, as are many things, discount store. That was in Cincinnati, Ohio
  16. Back in the sixties, early sixties, when I built model cars they cost $1.03 each. Of course there was paint and glue and even body putty for some. But the expense stopped there. Mom's sewing basket provided the plug wires, battery cable wires and so forth. Old socks provided the carpet. Now here we are 50 years later and I can purchase disc brake rotors, calipers, pre wired distributors and so forth. I can even purchase a resin body of a model that never was. I look through the different forums here and see, not model cars, but works of art. Hand made parts. Air brushed designs. And let's not forget the workbenches. Some of the workbenches look like something out of a manufacturing plant as opposed to someones home. To say I am impressed is putting it lightly.

In my opinion the 1940 Ford was/is the best model ever made in plastic. Fantastic work, love this model.
  18. man that is sharp. Great build, nice work.
  19. I have just gotten back into this hobby after a very, 40 year, abscence. I don't know what you do for a living but you are an artist, plain and simple. Absolutely fantastic build and I'm not even into these types of trucks.
  20. Really nice looking truck, good job. I like the interior real well.
  21. I know this is more than likely a stupid question but I have noticed that many of you seem to drill holes in some very small places. I have a Dremel tool but the small bits will not tighten up in the chuck. How do you guys drill those darn holes? I have also noticed that many of you run brake lines, fuel lines, hoses, ground straps and just about everything else that is needed to start and operate a real car. But where do you find the information as to the correct routing of these lines? In closing the models I have seen on this forum are pure works of art and I am in awe of the craftmanship.
  22. A really clean build and a great paint job. Being old school I don't particuarly like the wheels but then we build models to suit our individual tastes.
  23. Lookin good to me, good build.

I haven't built models in years, perhaps mid sixties. If this is a simple build, rather easy then I might as well forget getting back into this hobby. It looks fantastic to me.
  25. That is absolutely great. A work of art.
