Very very nice indeed. I'd love to own a real one just like your model, but at my age........

A nice start. I wasn’t sure about the wheels to start with….but they’re growing on me. Davey

Great post Muleskinner. This post has everything I enjoy about model making, a wonderfully executed model linked to a fascinating story. Great stuff. Davey. -
What kind of music.....
Zhu replied to Hot_Rod_Bob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Until recently I spend almost all of my time in a tractor cab; ploughing, cultivating, drilling etc so I’d have the radio on a lot of time. During long days when my concentration wavered or the dreaded “heavy eyelid syndrome†struck I’d plug in my ipod, hit shuffle & enjoy the mix. When I’m modelling however I do so in silence although I’ve usually got the window open so I listen to the music of the countryside. If I’m feeling rowdy I’ll listen to some of my favourites; Chuck Berry, Little Feet, The Eagles, Nils Lofgren, Neil Young. Just recently I’ve been listening to Sea Sick Steve, personally I think he’s amazing, can’t get enough of the guy. Davey. -
A very nice build indeed. The `59 has got to be on of my favourite cars of all time. I see they stock these kits at Model Roundup, afetr seeing this lovely model I'm very tempted to buy one. Davey.

Thanks Douglas, much appreciated.

Hi Douglas I hope you’re well today. I see what you mean, that’s a great idea & one I will definitely be trying out, many thanks. I’m going on a little excursion on Friday with some new friends I’ve made at the local model club I recently joined. We are visiting a model shop which apparently is a veritable Aladdin’s cave of modelling goodies. You mentioned you used “water based craft paint†to detail your grill, would you think it’s the sort of product a large model shop would stock? Or if not can you suggest any alternatives that a model shop might stock. Regards to you & yours, Dave.

What a wonderful model. I’d love to own a car like that. Failing that I’d love to own a model like that. Inspiring Thank you for showing us. Davey.

Thank you very much for your feedback Chuck. It is reassuring to know I’m not going to fall into a black hole with this kit. I’ll probably make a start on the build this weekend, depending on the weather. Forgive my ignorance but do the majority of people here have a build topic in the “on the bench†thingy-a-me do-da. Or does one build the kit & then post the finished model in the “Under glass†jobby. (Forgive me; I don’t know what these “sections†are called) A little advice would be much appreciated. Not only am I a novice builder but I’m a complete novice with computers & forums as well. (“Laughs embarrassinglyâ€)

Hello everyone, I hope you are well today. An old friend came round today & brought me a present. It is an AMT kit of the1941 Plymouth. I really like the shape of these older cars. To my mind they have more character than the modern cars we see on our streets today; perhaps it’s an age thing. Before I commence the build I would like to know if any of you that have built this car before encountered any problems & how you resolved them. And as an older, inexperienced guy returning to the hobby are there any pitfalls that I should avoid? In anticipation of you help. Dave.

That’s a very nice build indeed, I like it a lot. If you’ll indulge me one quick question; Would it be appropriate to run a black wash into the radiator grill to define the grill bars, or did these cars have a solid chrome grill as the model has. Dave.

I've gone with real.
-
Just peachy.

Is that a model?? Wow, I feel like I could jump in & drive it away. Amazing work, well done sir.

Absolutely beautiful, art on wheels. Drop dead gorgeous. Dave

Thank you for commenting on my models gentlemen. Your observations & encouragement are generous & greatly appreciated. I joined a model club a few months back & members there have helped me immensely. There is a feeling of friendliness & camaraderie among modellers that I’ve not experienced elsewhere. I remember attending model shows in the `70s where builders were reluctant to share their tips & techniques; I’m very pleased to see that part of the hobby seams to have disappeared. I’m hoping to attend a model show with my club mates in the next few weeks, I’m sure it’ll be a whole new experience. I better start saving now. Dave

I've posted my cars in the "Under glass" thingy. I hope thats the correct place. I was'nt sure if I should post them here or not. -
My first builds in about 30yrs. The kits were given to me by my children as a way of keeping me out of trouble. The Ford was the first build. It is sprayed Black with an airbrush by a friend. Secondly, the Corvette, all my own work this time. The paint is from a aerosol I picked up at a local garage. Please excuse the amateurish quality of these pictures, but I hope you like them just the same. Dave.

Your right Harry, it is very nice indeed. I'm very lucky to be part of such a close community. His Lordship looks after all his staff unconditionally. Everyone is included, nobody excluded. I’m guessing a lot of people would say it’s a bit old fashioned here, old values like respect & curtsey are important, but then again I think they should be everywhere. But there, I’m an older guy with older values; it’s all I’ve ever known. There is virtually no crime, & it’s a safe environment for all the children. I really do count my blessings. -

Thanks for the welcome Gentlemen. Foxer. Just to clarify things a little. I haven’t retired to a country estate, that makes me sound like the lord of the manor. No, I’m a retired farm worker living in an estate cottage on a country estate. The estate farm was my place of work until recently. His Lordship wouldn’t take too kindly to me moving into the “big house†with him LOL. My apologies if my first post was confusing. I’m nothing more than a humble farm labourer. -
Newbie signing in. Hi folks, I’m a new guy here & a recent returnee to model car modelling & modelling in general. I live on a country estate where I worked on the estate farm all my working life, mainly tractor driving working the arable crops but also as a stand in herdsman. Early retirement means I’ve a lot more spare time on my hands, though living in an estate cottage means I can keep a few animals as pets, namely; Kunekune pigs, Ducks, Genie fowl, a house cow & a few chicken. This & gardening occupies most of my time. I’m not a big TV watcher so I was still stuck for things to do in the evenings, hence my return to model building. WOW! How things have changed. I’ve been cursing this site for a few weeks & I’m staggered at the quality of craftsmanship displayed here, its just awl inspiring. It’s been at least 30 years since I last picked up the glue in anger so expect some daft questions; I’ve got a lot of learning to do. Hopefully I’ll make a few new friends here, get some advice & opinions to improve my modelling & have some fun too. I’m looking forward to the journey. Dave.
