  1. Remembered I need to add an update for April. Unfortunately, not too much has changed this month.
  2. Good thing I don't use most of the chrome parts!
  3. Thanks! I sliced a thin piece of styrene tubing and sanded it so it had rounded edges. I painted it with a molotow chrome pen, then glued the large headlight lenses that are included on the kit's clear sprue of parts.
  4. Time for my March update. Unfortunately there has still been no progress. I am hoping that once I get done with the shows in April, I will have some time to get working on this one.
  5. Thanks Brett! For the trailer I used 2" wide aluminum HVAC tape in vertical strips.I had to use a rounded tooth-pick to push the tape down between each rib in the side. It took forever, but it worked well in the end to simulate the stainless steel sides.
  6. Here is the inspiration: And here are some pictures that I edited to try to make look more vintage:
  7. Calling this one done. Managed to get some outdoor shots today.
  8. I have been making some more progress lately. I finished up the plumbing under the cab, scratch-built the spring supports that hold the intake and exhaust up. The cab is set in place to see how everything lines up. I still need to finish the mirrors, wipers, and a few other small details.
  9. Thanks guys! I worked on making a bumper this morning.
  10. I stole a trick from Rob Nagle and used brass rod to make the grab handles. I also added a 3D printed grille and 3D printed interior cab fans. It is hard to see, but there is a cowboy hat resting on the dash waiting for the driver. Here is a mock-up of the cab resting on the chassis. The exhaust and intake were scratch built.
  11. As some of you may have noticed, I love building cabover Kenworths. Last month I decided to start on another one inspired by this truck: I started with an AMT K123 kit. First I filled the "peep window" in the passenger side door, then filled the headlight panels so that I could add single headlights, then filled the holes for the kit door handles and moved the upright in the vent windows forward to represent an early 70's model cab. I also added a rear window and mounts for cab mounted exhaust and intake. Then it was time to lay some paint. Next I assembled the chassis, and added a resin torsion bar suspension to the rear. For the wheels, I am using a cast resin spokes with split ring rims on the drives. I cut the center hub out on a pair of kit steer wheels from an AMT Diamond Reo kit, and added them to a pair of resin rims. This made it easier to paint the parts separately. I added some cast rubber tires all the way around for a vintage look. I added some weathering to the wheels and chassis using a light coat of grey paint through an airbrush, then a thin black wash. I used the kit engine, as the real truck had a 350 Cummins. I replaced the transmission with a 4x4 transmission from the AMT Diamond Reo kit, as the real truck had a twin stick 4x4. Quarter fenders were scratch built using corrugated styrene sheet and some brass rod.
  12. Haha, I am trying to build my favorites at least. Not much to update for February, been busy casting parts the last few weeks.
  13. Gary is a great guy and makes some of the best resin parts I have ever seen. He is super helpful and teaches me something new about casting every time I talk to him. I have heard some people say that they had to wait a bit for a response, but keep in mind that he has a full time day job that he travels for as well as a family.. His parts are top notch for sure though!
  14. Got a little color on the cab this weekend.
  15. Now I need another project like I need a hole in the head, but when inspiration strikes you need to act. Maybe someday I will finish a model... So I decided to backdate an AMT K123 kit to represent a 1965 K100 model. I started with a scrap cab that I bought recently. I stripped the old paint and cut the front headlight panels out. I made new headlight panels, filled the "peep" window on the passenger side, added a vent to the driver's door, and modified the cargo doors. I will be using a back-dated grille as well. I sprayed the first coat of primer on the cab tonight.
  16. Yes you can put the torsion bar suspension on the the Watkins version of the kit without any problem.
  17. We only had 9 Macks through the years. Mostly used Kenworths through the 60's, 70's, and early 80's. Then switched to mostly Freightliners and Internationals with a few KW's thrown in. We had a couple of almost every brand, but seemed to stick with KW, Freightliner, and International the most. When I was a little kid we had a couple GMC Generals and an Autocar AT64F that I always liked. I'm not sure of everything that is in their fleet these days since my family sold the company a few year back. It seems like they are still mostly using Freightliners.
  18. The grille is the biggest difference. I'm not sure why they had two different versions.
  19. Thanks guys. I am going to modify a DM600 kit chassis, and will use an AITM cab. The cab will need a few modifications to make it a west coast model. I have resin drive wheels already made, and am working on some front spokes to match these Mack ones. I was picking my father's brain on this truck this past weekend, since it was years before I was born. He says it had a Mack 673 engine with a 5-speed Mack transmission. I thought this was interesting since everything else in the fleet had twin-stick 16-speed transmissions at that time. He said it was a big difference to jump from one of the twin sticks into a 5 speed, but it didn't run nearly as fast as the others did.
  20. I have been meaning to build this truck for a long time. I think the time has finally come. My end goal is to build a replica of this truck: I always found it interesting that it was a Western model cab with east coast specs.
  21. modeltruckin.com is where I get mine.
  22. Thanks! Those are spokes that I used to cast. It is on my to-do list to get some new molds made for them so I can make some more.
  23. Finished up the wheels and tires and added a little weathering.
  24. I managed to complete 3 trucks and 3 trailers.
