Another idea could be a 'RadWood' Cannonball, since that stuff is in style now. You know, cars and trucks from the 80s and 90s. Picture early tuner cars, Koenig Ferraris, RUF Porsches, Saleen Mustangs, you could even Miami Vice style cars. Or how about those hot hatches like the Golf GTI or Escort GT, or those custom mini-trucks? Maybe an 80s-90s car with modern running gear?

Ten years ago, I wanted to build the Cannonball Countach, and found a kit at a hobby show. I soon discovered the MPC kit was a bit of a dog. I ended up getting this Italeri kit as well, and it wasn't much better. It got started several times, but the parts fit was less than stellar and frustration took hold. The whole mess got put away until the other day when I came across it again. I had stuffed it and the MPC kit in the same box and tossed them in another bigger box. Somehow, the body of the MPC kit disappeared. Since the next Cannonball Community Build is around the corner, I decided to 'finish' Countach today. So here it is, my Italeri Countach, warts and all. It was not an easy task as the kit put up a struggle. The car is a definite 20 footer, but it'll do. It's mostly Italeri with some MPC parts and some parts box driving lights and antennas. The exhaust pipes are pieces of aluminum tubing.

There used to be a guy named Harry P on the forum who would have asked, "But where are the mirrors?" So in his honor, I found a set of Boxter mirrors and painted them to match the body. There you go, Harry! Edit: Forgot to add the picture.

I just completed my first Porsche Safari and want to start another with a bit less height. The tires I used on this one came from an old 90s AMT Ranger and for my next build I need some 15 inch off road tires with not quite as much tire height. Are there any kits that have such a thing? This was my first build and I think they are around a 30-32 inch tire?

Back in the dinosaur days, KayBee Toys had a clearance on the original issue of this kit and its Cougar variant. I bought a bunch of them at $1.99 each and had fun with them. Maybe it's about time for Revell to reissue these kits and some of their other early 90s kits.

Apparently Safari Porsches are a big thing nowadays. I've found 911s, 924s, and 944s are all being jacked up and used off road. As are a lot of other cars that you wouldn't expect to see in the boonies. A guy here in town has a beater Kia with what look like Wrangler wheels and tires on it. No idea how he got them to fit but it rides several inches higher than usual. I've got another 911 and a 924 that are waiting for the treatment. Right now, the hardest part is finding more 15 inch off road tires that aren't too big for the cars and more offroad lights.

The LeMons idea is similar to the Rust To Rome http://www.rust2rome.com/ so maybe some kind of mashup? As for the Panamerica, that's a cool idea that could easily be a separate competition if anyone wanted to run it.

I finished my second build of the year, this Porsche, then I started sorting through one of three huge boxes of kit parts that has followed me around for several years. So far I found enough parts to build a parts box Monogram F-350.

I started the Italeri Countach a few minutes ago and it's difficult not in the amount of parts, but because there was a definite lack of attention paid to parts fit. Pretty much any AMT kit designed in the 70s is going to be a pain.

I recently finished my hobby room, and so have been doing some building and some organizing. I finished a Revell Honda Civic hatch not too long ago, and decided to do something different for the next build. Without any more waiting, here is my Porsche Safari 911. It's the old Monogram 911 curbside kit from the 70s. That is kind of my go-to favorite kit. I've built several of this kit and it will always be my favorite. Just a word to anyone who wants to build it, the kit's proportions are good, but some of the lines are missing or very shallow. The shut lines on the deck lid aren't even put in. For this build, I decided to go a different direction. This is a 100% parts box build and the list of parts is long. Hope this next part doesn't bore you too much. The kit itself is basically stock, except for the following: the tires are Firestone ATXs leftover from an old AMT Ranger on the original kit Porsche wheels. The horns on the hood came from I don't know where. The roof rack is scratchbuilt from leftover Plastruct sheet and I-beam with the KCs from an old Monogram F-350. The high mounted taillight on the back of the rack is from a Monogram 911 convertible, the LED light bar below is those tiny self stick jewels from the craft store, and the jack is from an old 1/35th tank. I filled the front bumper with lightening holes removing the spoiler from the lower part, added a couple of tow hooks and made the KCs from some plastic smiley charms I found somewhere. The rear bumper was carved up too, with a scratchbuilt winch in the center. The little red lights are slightly larger jewels from the craft store. What's an offroader without a raised height? That's the beauty of curbside chassis with solid plastic axles, I just redrilled the holes lower and added a couple of skid plates to hide it. Whew, I think that's it. The only thing left is to find some rear view mirrors as the kit doesn't include any, and I kind of need a 1/24th scale shovel. Now I'm off to try another Safari!

Does anyone know if eBay has a translate function? I've found a few vendors that have interesting stuff, but they are in German, Italian, or French. I can kind of plod through Italian, and maybe a little in French, but not enough. I thought there used to be a way to translate, but if there is, it's in one of those languages.

Like Palmer brand kits, the Lindberg Thunderbird is more valuable to nostalgia collectors than to builders. They were designed for young beginner builders, with a low parts count.

I also have a scar from super glue and kicker. I dripped a big glob on my finger and didn't notice it until I sprayed some kicker on a part and it activated the glob on my finger. I got a pea sized blister out of it that turned into a scar.

No idea if it works, but someone told me once that those Magic Erasers can remove the yellow from clear coat. You have to treat it like a very fine sand paper and work it wet.

When should I expect my copy to arrive? Have they shipped yet? Can't wait!

My hope for Round2 is that they can use the success of that catalog to eventually add backdated and forward dated versions of the kits they have. Maybe the the 1971 and the later 1997 Dodge vans, and the 71 Pinto wagon and runabout, the 1974 Firebird and Camaro.
