Grill design requests
oldcarfan replied to Texas_3D_Customs's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I'd love to have a GMC grill to fit the AMT 55-57 Chevy trucks as well! -
Is this a snap kit? I love the alternate wheels you're trying and need to find this kit!

Thanks for your reply!

I'm looking for a standard short bed for the AMT 1978 Ford truck and I think I heard that MAD Resin made one. Does anyone know if they're still around? I've tried googling but nothing seems to come up.

AMT 1960 3-in-1 Ford F-100 Pickup Truck
oldcarfan replied to rekcirb13's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I love the AMT 60 Ford kit and have three that I found for good prices on eBay. That being said, I'm looking forward to getting more from new or restored tooling. I'd also love to see Mobius do a more detailed version with a short bed and also a step bed. -
Over the years I bought several of these as rebuilders. I can't wait to get a lot more. I used the 53 Ford kit with the cab from a 60 to make a 60 stepside.

For me it's going to be the Mustang and the Sodbuster. I remember my dad having that Mustang both in 1:1 and kit form when I was little. For a guy who grew up poor on the south Texas coast, he always imagined himself as a LeMans driver. He raced that car around every curve he could find. The Sodbuster kit was the first I ever bought on my own and I built and rebuilt that kit until there wasn't any thing left of it.

1964 Econoline
oldcarfan replied to Tcoat's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I think the JADA one is the one I bought. It's got fancy wheels and is in M&Ms markings. I bought it on sale and haven't even taken it out of the box. Wish I could find the First Gear version, it looks great. -
Is this a stock body on the generic NASCAR chassis? If so I'm thinking of some cool projects I could do.

Is this based on the diecast van? I bought one a while back that is marked with M&M branding. It looks good but feels like it's closer to 1/23th than 1/25th. This one looks a lot better. -
I'd say it's worth it. I bought that same kit twenty years ago and paid $40-something then. It is highly detailed and to me was pretty fiddly to assemble.

Not sure how to ask this, but here goes. When a company makes a new kit, do they make one set of molds for that kit? Or do they make multiples? Say they were making a new kit of a Chevelle, would they make one set of molds for it, body, chassis, etc. or would they make two sets of molds so they could run two copies on two mold machines? Maybe it would depend on how popular they expected the kit to be?

Krylon or Rust-Oleum for primer
oldcarfan replied to Greg Myers's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'd forgotten that paint! When I can find it I use it interchangeably with Duplicolor. -
Krylon or Rust-Oleum for primer
oldcarfan replied to Greg Myers's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've checked all the Walmart's in the area and they don't have any of the cheap Walmart branded paints on the shelf. They still have a place for them, but no paints. The only thing they seem to have plenty of is Rustoleum stuff. -

Sounds great! First I need a Cannonball Finish My Workshop challenge! Is there a time period? Vintage, new, etc? -
Complete bonuses in kits
oldcarfan replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Revell also did a record for the Mustang Grande kit, too. Don't know anything about it other than that, sadly. I wish that kit was still available. -
Reissued kits
oldcarfan replied to slantasaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Edited: This turned into more of a fantasy Christmas list! I know these companies are doing the best they can with what they have and I really appreciate it. For my wish list, maybe Round Two could do an inventory of all the tooling they got from AMT, MPC, and whoever else and then release it. They could do a poll with a Go Fund Me twist. List of all the tooling with an estimate of how much it would cost to restore it. People could give money online for their favorite and when it's funded, the company would then reintroduce that kit. Probably a silly idea, but it might jump start some of the old tooling that's been deemed too expensive or too much trouble to reissue. How about a re-release of the MPC snap kit Chevy Blazer with a retooled convertible top and some stock steel wheels and tires so I can do the Amity Police truck? As for me, any of the kits I got as a kid for Christmas would be appreciated. MPC's 1971 Vega and Pinto, the 1975-ish Monza, Camaro and Firebird Formula, 1973 Dodge van and truck, so many more. They also did some less common kits, such as the Maserati Bora and the Countach, but those may have been from borrowed tooling. As for AMT, I'd love to see AMT's Open Road version of the Chevy van. They recently put the Go-Kart in a kit, but maybe they can add the Bonneville body for it and also locate the tool for the Triumph motorcycle as well? I recently got my #1 MPC wish with the re-release of the Supra, so yay! I bought two copies and I'll buy more if it keeps the old stuff coming! The same thing goes for Revell. I'd buy lots of the old Monogram curbsides. The Datsun 260Z, Mercedes Benz 450 SL, Porsche 911 and 924 and especially the Capri II. It'd be great to have them with new tooled wheels and tires, but I'd take them any way I could get them. -
Never Say Never about old kits. "New Era Modeling"
oldcarfan replied to stavanzer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I was thinking about the Chevy II wagon I recently bought and about companies cloning old kits. That made me wonder if someone, say, Round Two were to get the rights to Johan for instance, could they clone some of their offerings with new technology? Maybe use new scanning and 3d printing to make mold inserts or whatever. Though simplified, Johan had some accurate body lines. It'd sure be nice to get a new copy of the 1970 Javelin or Maverick. I don't know how the tech has proceeded, but several years ago I worked for a company that was starting to use that tech for small-run plastic parts for some military applications. -
I'm gonna have to find one of these! Nice work.

I could see this as a separate community build!

I'm hoping to have my shop put back together in a month or two. For me, Rust To Rome, Musketball, or Moonshine Runners would be my choices. -

Maybe do them kit car style, say a Countach with an LS Chevy, or a Ferrari with a Coyote V8.
