  1. You can use a black wash that is a "watered down" black paint for oily looks. There are other colors as well, so you can thin out brown or red paints to accomplish the same thing. Wash paints can be liberally spread across the engine block to simulate oil blowby on the manifolds, along the transmission piece for a dingy, used look, or use reddish browns for rusty parts areas. Blackwashing chrome parts also make them more realistic looking because they darken up the crevaces and spaces in the parts.
  2. Yup, but the director John Carpenter used the color "Blood Red" on all the cars used in the movie.
  3. So would I (apparently I don't have all the pieces of the dual carb Carter setup like I thought, looks like I only have about half of it...). I also need to know what specific color red that people are using for their Christines. The actual color of the car used in the movie was "blood red", but so far every spraypaint I've looked at is either too light, too dark, or completely the wrong shade.
  4. Try Keith Marks for the '71 white billboard decals. He'll be your best source. http://public.fotki.com/mofobow/plymouth/
  5. I'll try to get some more pix up but yes, the entire kit except for the whitewall inserts is molded in red. No extra parts seem to have been added.
  6. Just as been speculated, the kit is nearly identical to the Belvedere kit in just about every way. The only thing added which I found pretty cool was the decal sheet. The white areas of the sheet are white lettering saying things like "Arnie Is Mine", "Pledging My Love", "Christine, She's A Killer", "Leigh" crossed through like it was etched out, and "Arnie" inside a heart, The "Christine" decals look kinda ok, as well as the faded flames, but they aren't what interest me. The two deshboard bezels (they look almost identical as I can't see the lettering without a magnifying glass) are pretty nice, the license plates are a definite necessity for any "decent" Christine model, and the "Darnell's Tonight" begs you to buy another kit just to stick that on the hood. My only gripe is the molded in red which is minor at best, and since they're doing one in white it's really a moot point. I'll be using the Belvedere model body for the "prettied-up" car and the Round 2 one as the "$250 Mechanic's Special" rust-bucket. "Oops.... Sorry, Christine." One other thing of note. Just like the Belvedere kit, this one is also missing the "Golden Commando" Carter dual-carb setup... ...and the lettering on the side fins still says "Belvedere" on them, but again, no surprise. Getting the photoetch kit from MCG goes a long way to making this a decent Christine
  7. I still want to eventually see an option to convert this kit to a '71 with front grille, corrected tails, and shark gills. With optional rear louver and spoiler it would be perfect.
  8. Question on the kit: I know the car body is correct for the '70 Cuda (no "shark" gills, yay!), but will it have gills included in the parts set to put them back on for a more accurate '71? I'm thinking no, since I also don't see a '71 grille in the kit either.
  9. Here's my Tamiya Supra... It builds really nice. The camera didn't take really good pics of it, so just ignore the dustiness of the model.
  10. ^^ Makes sense, the hood is flat as well, not like the 40's Ford kit. Good possibility that you're right on this.
  11. The split window in the front is definitely a '40s Ford, though the fenders do look closer to '37 or '38. The tri-carb setup is actually in an AMT kit that Gene showed me earlier, so I can nab that kit and start with that, then probably use the body of the '40 for the other stuff. Henry died in 1992 and I never got to meet him, but he and his dad ran an auto repair shop here in Richmond back then. That's why a lot of his bodywork seemed to be cobbled together. Henry also used to race Daytona back when it was nothing more than a big sand oval. We are still looking for more info on his car and other guys that raced with him. Lee Petty was one of his good friends as well as his son Richard. Great ideas, guys!
  12. Okay. My wife's father raced on the NASCAR circuit back in the day and I'm planning on building his car. Initially, everyone thought he drove a 40's Plymouth until her brother found the last picture in existence of her father's car..... This puts the car as a 40's Ford Coupe. Now suposedly the color scheme was a dingy maroon body, flat black fenders, and a white top with white lettering. The engine was hopped up with three carbs and could "run like the dickens". I have already picked up a Lindberg kit and will probably be modding it heavily to make it work, so I was curious if anyone has any recommendations or hints on this? Any help would be appreciated.
  13. There are three actual signs now, two of them are replicas of the original. One is further down Boulder Hwy, and the other two are on Las Vegas Blvd, with the original sign actually being located in Paradise, NV, 4 miles south of the city limits proper. The last replica is further north in the city limits itself on the same highway and reads "Welcome to Fabulous Downtown Las Vegas".
  14. Speaking of Vegas, my wife and I just got back from there and I found the coolest thing in the MGM Grand gift shop (it's actually in about every gift shop in town!). It's a scale version of the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign that lights up, and it's in perfect scale with our cars! I'll take pics of the sign next to some of my cars later, but it's really cool having it lit up with my models next to it! http://www.lasvegas-giftshop.com/mililasvesi.html
  15. One last, interesting detail many miss when buying from fleaBay. Anyone else notice that a kit marked down to $10.00 usually has a shipping price of anywhere from $10 ~ $15?!?! Even if it's in the home state?!?! Yeah. It costs that much for a flipping package to get to me 3 counties over. This is why I smart bid fleaBay on only the rarer and more worthwhile stuff.
  16. They have one on, but Cali changed the law somewhat to make the verbage of the warning different, so Tamiya has to now change the label to compensate. At least this is what I got out of them a few months ago when I called Tamiya.
  17. I finally got the two pieces I needed to make this work... The MP3 player is a Sansa Zip Clip 8GB player which is nice and small, and the "jukebox" is a keyring mini amplified speaker from the UK that pumps out pretty decent decibels without distortion! The really cool thing is the jukebox stands just about the right height for a 1/25 model car! Now all is needed is some 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's music loaded into the Sansa to play while sitting next to the model! (EDIT: still cleaning the survivng models after the hurricane last year... Sorry!)
  18. Holy Cow.... what TOOLS can handle detail at that level of magnitude??? I probably couldn't SEE most of those parts without some sort of readers, and the smaller the parts are, the more my hand starts shaking trying to handle them. WOW!!!
  19. These are getting scarce, will occasionally pop up on eBay... Camaro Kammback and Firebird Kammback Also one by Lindberg... And the Spy Hunter 2 model kit by Motormax, nothing more than a metal kit of the Saleen S7 with Spy Hunter 2 badging, but cool nonetheless.
  20. I had intended on making it light up and play music if it was hollow. It really depends on the piece though, as it could be a solid piece of either wood, plastic, or metal. Hopefully I'll get the chance to see.
  21. Nope, I got charged for it. Still haven't heard anything from him yet.
  22. Apparently something is happening at Larry G Scale, as his phone mailbox is full and I have not received any emails from him yet. Interesting.
  23. I ordered a juke box and Coke machine from him last week and only received the Coke machine. I've tried reaching him in email and phone and he is not answering. Didn't know if others have had similar trouble with him in the past. I'll keep trying and will post up my results as soon as I have something. Thanks!
  24. Yeah, the banana bend is quite obvious to me now, dang it. Well, there's not much I can do really to correct that without shaving down the body, puttying, then recarving out the fin shape, so I guess I'll leave it that way. I think I can still make it look good irregardless.
  25. Bumping this thread to read up on the kit's problems.
