  1. Thanks guys! Engine has a nice coat of red, drying now. To do the interior, I cut away all the armrests and window cranks, then reversed the door panels so that the detailed panel trim faces the outside. This will allow me to draw the inside door metal on the panel to simulate the ripped out trim. I got the idea just from looking at the panels and trying to figure out if I needed to cut new styrene sheets to the pattern, then realizing I have a nice blank canvas on the other side. I have also trimmed the "Nova" logo and emblem fins off the outer side panels and smoothed them out with sanding and melted styrene from dipping a strip in Pro-Weld, and now the body is drying from a spray of black primer. Flat black will go on it next. I'm cannibalizing an old AMT Ford Taurus NASCAR racer for the rollcage, so I have quite a bit of work to accomplish with that one. Pix to come soon!
  2. Didn't know that about the Alps. Thanks!
  3. Although the new Chargers (to MY eyes anyway...) are an abomination, I appreciate the thinking involved in this. Good work!! EDIT: now you need a new Mustang and new Charger and have them chasing each other "Bullitt" style...
  4. There are a couple of ways to do this... 1: buy laserjet decal paper and an Alps printer for well over $1000. 2: get someone here who has access to a decent color laserjet printer who makes decals to print it off for you. 3: buy laserjet decal paper and take it to Kinkos along with your graphic and pay them to print it for you. 4: invest in a better printer and decal sheets. For the convenience, I would recommend either 2 or 3, preferrably Kinkos due to the quick turnaround time on printing what you need. But be sure your pictures are properly formatted in a Word document before doing it or you could waste your decal paper quickly. EDIT: be warned about the Alps printer. They are no longer being made and the price I quoted is for a refurbished one I saw a month or so ago on eBay. Better conditioned Alps printers go much higher in cost than that!
  5. Wow... it's got more plastic in her than my last girlfr..... ....nevermind....
  6. And some shots of the actual car for comparison...
  7. I did a ton of research on this subject before getting started, but I'm ready to proceed on it now. This will be the '70 Nova Stuntman Mike drove in the movie "Death Proof". The first problem was trying to confirm which year Nova was used in the movie. Everything from '69 to '73 has been mentioned, but the crew that made the cars for the film confirmed that at least 2 of the Novas used were from 1970, non-COPO, non-SS cars. So, starting with 2 different Nova kits... ...and... I will be using the non-SS grilles in the COPO kit and most everything else in the SS kit. The wheels that come in the SS kit are correct for this car (they were NOT mags...), and I will have to scrounge in the parts box for a sport bucket seat and sport steering wheel for a more correct interior. The seats that come in both kits will be put away for another Nova project later on, and I'll be ordering 2 "rubber duckie" mascot ornaments from Down Under here real soon. The skull and lightning bolts I've already obtained from Hazzardous Decals, so now it's time to get building! (I can't WAIT to trash that interior with metal plates, reinforcement door bars, plexiglass dividers, and full-on rollcage! Will also be trying to source a "tractor seat" for the passenger as well! LOL!)
  8. I'll keep mine orange then...
  9. Another trick is to use the Testors Model Master Vinyl Top spray after using either the Fabric Gray or Fabric Tan interior as a primer. The combination of the two gives it a perfect mottling effect you need for vinyl tops.... My first attempt at vinyl with this spray method (have since learned the trick of using styrene strips for mold lines....
  10. ^^^ New talent I need to desperately learn. UNREAL!!!!
  11. Keith Marks (http://public.fotki.com/mofobow/) can be emailed at mofobow@hotmail.com. He has an extensive list of decals for the '69 Charger and you will need to request the color of your trunk lid stripes when you order from him. As far as the redline tire decals, several other kits have decals for them like the '65 Mustang 2+2, lots of the Dodge kits, etc. But there is a vinyl redline pack you can get (not sure who makes them, "Scale Master" I believe...) that will work. They also carry whitewalls in thin line and fat line, not too sure about any other colors though. You can also get yourself a bottle of Liquid Decal Film from Micro Scale to protect the remainder of the decals you have. Dip a brush in it, then brush across the decal while it's still on the paper until you have an even coating, then let dry for several hours. When you're ready to use the decal, cut it from the paper as close to the decal line as possible, because the film will remain on the paper portions of the decal you don't trim off. Dip it in warm water for 30 seconds, then hold the decal by the edges of the paper and with damp fingers, start rubbing the decal towards the end of the paper. You still have to be careful removing the decals from the paper, but the LDF will make them much stronger and more resistant to fracturing. HINT: YOU WILL NEED LDF WHEN TO BUY AFTERMARKET DECALS OR FOR WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR OWN. Also, do not use LDF ON a model, especially when it's painted. It will eat through your paint!!!!
  12. Now THAT had to be said...
  13. It's hilarious. I should never have had a build thread on mine. I mean, I got GREAT ideas and corrections to mistakes and all, but people got started with the details posts before I had even applied the first drop of glue! I like build threads because you do get the great ideas (and less disappointed commentary) from your audience, but I never realized people get all in a tizzy over that particular car. I had far less of a fuss when I built my Challenger from "Vanishing Point"... Although, I DID get the typical "Revell 'Cudas" arguments when I built "Phantasm"... Now I'm scared what will happen when I start my "Death Proof Nova" build thread...
  14. Just saw two of them in Hobbytown here in Richmond, VA. Now I gotta wait until Wednesday to get one...
  15. Yup, caught my own mistake as well. Easy fix, will post up the results when I get them done tonight.
  16. Unless you're talking about under the headlights in the front. Whoops, I think I missed those..... Well, back to the dungeon for a quick touchup in correct colors!
  17. Huh? Turn signals were painted chrome silver (as a base) with clear orange in the front and clear red in the back. Glare from the flash, maybe?
  18. Last set... The only issue with this that I had was the hood had difficulty sitting down, but otherwise it's a pretty straightforward kit.
  19. I had started this kit and was nearly done when I decided to hold off on it and work on the General Lee. Now that the General is nearly complete I decided to finish this one up. It's the MPC retool from Round 2 built stock with ModelMaster Icy Blue lacquer...
  20. Thanks everyone! Last set of pix before I get and put on the pushbar and antenna (both are resin pieces that are much better than I can fashion...)...
  21. Chuck..... NICE DETAILING ON THAT FLAT TIRE, MAN!!!!! HOW'D YOU DO THAT?!?!
  22. STOP THAT.... stop that, stop that!!! Now, this thread has gotten ENTIRELY TOO SILLY!!!
  23. Somehow, not sure why, but I feel responsible for the current "GL focusing" that has been recently going on here.... Hoping that feeling will pass..... SOON...... EDIT: and YES PLEASE on a movie - TV car thread. Like to see some more "Bandit", "Bullitt", "Crazy Larry", "Stuntman Mike", "A-Team", "Vanishing Point" builds grouped together.... WITH General Lee's......
  24. Thanks for the support and comments! Okay. At this stage I'm waiting on a few special goodies to complete my model. I have a resin CB antenna (patterned from season 1) and a more accurate resin pushbar coming from MoparmanJim soon, and I've done everything else like the side mirror, fog lamps, and door handles. Will post up a few more pics soon.
