  1. Who's gunna be the first to try & count em??... (Not me)
  2. I'll repeat my earlier post... The Chinese only care about themselves!!! Period.
  3. COOL Paul....Who makes them??.. I'd really be interested in picking up a Hurricane myself... It'd look great on the Aussie car shelf... PIX PLEASE
  4. The only imperfection I can see is the top 1/4 of the RH quarter window post is a little short shot, but other than that it's fine.. Same thickness as the X/EL, ridgid & durable looking.... Just this weird transparent plastic had me stumped?
  5. A few more pix....
  6. Hi Guys... Here are my latest 2 acquisitions (2 unbuilt 59 Dodges) & I was hoping someone more knowlegable than me could shed some light as to what I have here? The body on the left is an X/EL re-issue in the same white plastic as all the others I have (although in some of my pix it looks gray). The one on the right appears to have been cast in the same mould due to the injector pin marks, flash lines etc, but although it is the same thickness as the white X/EL, it's a opaque milky white & almost see thru in places?. It's not like the original JoHan promos (I have a few of those as well) & it really has me stumped... It almost looks like an early X/EL prototype where they were trying to get the plastic right before production?. Another curious thing is that the front / rear bumpers & headlights are moulded in a gray plastic & have never been chrome plated. Hopefully someone out there with the good oil on X/ELs will know what it is.
  7. 12 /23/ 12.......... (as far as I know)
  8. I don't speak for all Aussies, but even $14.99 for a kit is cheap over here. Consider that Meijer's (or ANY hobby store) have to make a profit to continue, they must be buying them from the wholesaler for $10 or less... Then add shipping to Australia, freight & distribution once they get over here, then our local hobby shops markup, means that same kit will cost you $40+ over here, which is why I still buy heaps of kits off ebay.. $15-$20 for a kit + another $20 for postage still makes it about the same price, but there's a ton of different things to wet your appetite on ebay as compared to the tripe my LHS has to offer.
  9. Rat Rods?.... My jury's still out about rat rods.. The first one I saw I thought 'YUCK.. Someones idea of a rod?.. Looks like a POS to me'... BUT I will admit, the more I see the more I'm coming to grips with this type of visual reaming... Know what I mean?
  10. Thanks for that Chuck, but you were the inspiration for this build. I've seen the quality of your stuff, & a comment like that is very gratifying indeed... I'll post a few more pix of the progress on the plow & tractor since last week, but I don't feel this is the appropriate section for a WIP... I'll start a new WIP where everyone thinks it is most suitable... So where is that? Here in the 'On the workbench' section, or in the 'Other models' section?............ I didn't realize that the little brackets & levers were going to be so fiddly, otherwise I may have just opted for a simple, tractor mounted 3 point linkage plow... If only I hadn't found those wheels in the parts box...... The tractor itself has stalled momentarily (due to a rush of inspiration on the plow), but it's still ticking along. The plow's close to being finished (bar painting & weathering), so once that happens it will be full steam ahead again on the tractor...
  11. Is this a car or a UFO??? Virgil Exner would wet his pants over this one, I'm sure..
  12. I understand now Mark... There's always a number of these available on ebay. I thought you meant the original Cavalier resin kit.... Co-incidently, there's an original Cavalier on ebay @ the moment if anyone has a spare $300+ laying around.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-MODEL-KIT-MAD-MAX-1-2-3-FORD-FALCON-ROAD-WARRIOR-XB-XA-XC-2-DOOR-COUPE-gt-/280750521784?pt=AU_Toys_Hobbies_Model_Kits&hash=item415e08fdb8
  13. Here's the link to the Aussie cars page.....http://www.scaleautomobilia.com.au/resin.htm You'll notice all the good ones are listed as 'UNAVAILABLE'.... including the V8 Interceptor, Torana A9X, Torana GTR XU1, so any of these kits are set to become expensive in the future (IF they're not already)..... Definite re-mould candidates IMO, so I'd think long & hard about it before I started that one Mark......
  14. You should go the Chinese route & have a mould made of that one before you tackle it... I think they've stopped casting those over here & could become quite valuable in the future..
  15. Do you think the Chinese will care?.... I'll bet a pound of peanuts these same moulds will end up with another manufacturer & clones will soon undercut / ruin the lucrative market that Biante has built up over the years.. Biante have also been VERY specific about the accuracy of the livery decals for each team, something the Chinese will never give 2 hoots about... It's very sad that Biante have lost their moulds, but hey, if they weren't farmed out to China for cheap labour in the first place, then they would still have them, wouldn't they????
  16. Hey Frank.... That's a 68 XT GT Falcon... (no hood scoop, round tail lights).......
  17. Scale Automobilia has a few of these... Interceptor 2...XW, XY. I'll have to search the memory banks for the other Interceptor I can recall....http://www.scaleautomobilia.com.au/
  18. The bench was considerably messier than this but I cleaned all the garbage off it on Fri nite. As for the plow, well I've been inspired by a thread from Chuck Most on his crawler tractor & decided to do something myself out of an old panzer tank... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=37403&hl=tractor&fromsearch=1...... What good's a tractor without something to pull behind it?...That's where the plow comes in. I had a pair of wheels in the parts box & the rest has just come together from scrap & strip styrene, although I fear the plow may outshine the tractor pulling it................The last pic is the quadrant gear that raises the plow out of the ground & there's about 10 hours of work just in that one little piece....Sheesh
  19. I'm extremely organised this week... Check out how clean the hobby desk is... Upside down is my 11yo sons 68 R/T Charger (his first ever build that he wants me to post for him once he's finished), & on the cutting board is the start of my latest project.... See the reference picture of the blue plough in the background?.... I'm scratch building one in 1/25 scale
  20. I just 'Discovered' this 30 gauge wrapping wire myself Rob...Nice & thin, & available in black, blue & red. How do you attach it to the distributor cap? Drill & glue?
  21. Some people hate the re-casts though, but @ 20% of the price I find them good value. I have a lot of resin 'Anime' figures that I'm slowly getting through. I don't think I'll be able to post them here though... Some of them are a bit, how you say, rude (still NICE eye candy though).
  22. I'd like to see a Big Block Mopar dress up kit. Nice valve covers, decent 2 x 4BBL manifold, carbs & dual air cleaners the same as on the JoHan 1960 DeSoto, which didn't (by the way) have carbys at all.... I'd be in for 10 sets of those. I got these from a complete engine kit, parted from a JoHan 60 DeSoto off ebay. I'm always looking for more, but there's no way I'm going to buy a $40+ kit just for the air cleaners.
  23. 'Gaps' are a normal part of these kits. You'll probably find this is a re-cast from the original kit. They do this in Asia all the time & a little of the correct fitment of parts is lost in the re-casting process. When the cost of the re-casts is about 20% that of an original, I can put up with a little filling here & there.
  24. The original concept drawing. This next shot is from the 1969 Sydney (I think?) motor show & It's interesting to note the 'Car of the year' in the background... 1969 Holden HK Monaro. This car was always destined for greatness with even the lowly 'base' models fetching $20K these days. Want a 'GTS' ?. Expect $40K+ now, & if you'd prefer the ultra rare 327 'Bathurst' Monaro, you'd better have at least $100K in your pocket to avoid being laughed at. Ain't hindsight a marvelous thing?
  25. Hi Guys. It has just been announced here in Oz that the iconic Holden Hurricane concept vehicle from 1969 has just been fully restored & I wasn't sure where to put it, so this section is as good as any. http://ninemsn.carpoint.com.au/news/2011/classic-and-rare/holden/holden-revives-hurricane-27287 There's a nice bit in there how the only way they found a sample of the original orange colour was under a piece of tape on the MODEL used for wind tunnel testing. There's a nice clip on You Tube as well I won't rave on about it too much & just let the links do the talking. Co-incidently, if you were going to build a model of this car, which body would YOU use as a base?. Looks very Can-Am ish to me.
