A few questions for Johan fans from IMC
Hypermung replied to SteveG's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I know what you mean... I was interested in the box itself (as well as the contents). If I won this, it probably would be the one I would have never assembled. $141.99 (+ postage) to leave it sitting on the shelf? I'm probably better off not having won, I suppose.. Re-issue ANY of the forward look Mopars ... They'd ALL be winners IMO. -

As an avid fin fan, I can add my vote to re-issue the 1959 Dodge CRL with the interior. I have a tendancy to bid on ANY unbuilt 59 Dodge on evilpay, & I can tell you they aren't cheap these days. I've just picked up another unbuilt re-issue, & an unbuilt original annual kit with the interior (with crazed glass & gray chrome) for 'only' $76 each + postage, which will make them close to US$100 each by the time they get here. You may call me crazy, but I seriously can't help myself when it comes to these kits. I just today missed an original Annual customiser kit in a nice box. Not that I missed it, I DIDN'T BID HIGH ENOUGH!!! This went for a staggering $141.99.....(+ postage).http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170713057839?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I now have 5 X-el re-issues & the dodgy Jo-han annual, & I'm not trying to corner the market for 59 Dodge re-issues as I will build all of these one day. I realize that if the 59 is re-releasedI will have lost a large sum of money (probably), but if there's only one kit that will pull some serious numbers in the sales department, the 59 Dodge would have to be it HANDS DOWN.... (My 2 bobs worth) -
BOX STOCK ??. Toyota must have really re-thunk their tyre sizes that year ... Seriously though Josh, that looks great. It must be a V6 'cause I don't think a 4 banger would have the guts to pull those donuts around....lol

Australian V8 Super Cars
Hypermung replied to 935k3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Found a version that is still on YouTube guys! ......MAN that is priceless. DW started out all cool like, but as soon as he put the death grip on the 'Oh Jesus' bar he didn't let go all lap... "We're gonna die... We're gonna die" . Thats the best laugh I've had for ages. -

I'll bet the boys gave him a really good go over the top as well... They wouldn't have wanted the US commentator to poo poo about how it was 'so mundane'. Squeal like a girl Darryl... That's what the guys wanted .. I'll bet you all in the US get the coverage again next year (LUCKY YOU'SE) -

Hypermung replied to 935k3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You really can't get a true perspective of this track until you actually drive it (remember for the other 51 weeks this is a public road). The road up to the top is steep, & once on the top & you go over Skyline (called that because all you can see is sky), it drops down thru some nasty twisties even steeper. To go over the top @ 80kph is nerve wracking... & these guys go over at twice that speed.... They must have some BIG hairy coconuts believe me. -

SPEED....? That must be a channel on pay TV?. We don't get that here, but if that's where it is...Grab some of it !!! -

The Track, Mt Panorama is our BEST track ........ You're (sort of) absolutely right there.. Not only is it Australia's best track, it's the best track in the Southern Hemisphere, & all of you in the US should be glad that someone over there has the fore-sight to offer it for you to view. Do yourself a favour & grab some of it if you can....This race has a long background as being the Premier road race in Australia, with an equally long list of legends that have forever immortalised their names as winners in history. It dosen't matter if you don't win another race all year.... If you win Bathurst, then you're a Demi-god. I don't consider myself a 'Trailer trash Bogan' , BUT this is the one day of the year that I can get a slab of ice cold beer, sit my behind in front of the idiot box, & enjoy a day of racing without having to 'Mow the lawn' or 'Wash the car' or 'Flea the dog' , or any-one of a million other things that 'should have priority' over anything that I want to do (she knows better than that)........ LONG LIVE THE BATHURST 1000. -

Correct pronunciation of MOEBIUS?

I LOVE looking under the hood of an old (even archaic) car, & actually seeing a spark plug, or a carburettor, or even a hint of valve cover gasket.... Good thing that cars don't have points anymore, 'cause I'd hate to change them (or a spark plug) these days. It'd take you 3 hours just to remove all the plastic garbage off the engine before you could even SEE the sparky... or the carby... or even the ENGINE.......... DOH, cars don't have a carby anymore, do they?. It's all EFI & capacitor discharge & variable valve timing & computers..... Give me archaic ANYDAY. -
Cavalier models ,URGENT .
Hypermung replied to scummy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've just been thinking Rob, even if you can't get a Cavalier HT Monaro, you can always get a HK Monaro (1 year earlier) in a curbside resin kit from 'The Parts Box' http://www.thepartsbox.com/ -

Hypermung replied to scummy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm afraid you're out of luck Rob. This hasn't been made for 10 years or more & I consider it the rarest kit in my stash. This is actually the only one I've ever seen on ebay in 6 years or so & it wasn't cheap when I got it, but you never know, you may get lucky.... -
how did you get hooked ..my 1st kit 1963
Hypermung replied to mr cheap's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My first ever kit was in 1968 & was the Airfix (I think) Dogfight Double that included both the Spitfire & the ME BF110. I was mainly into aircraft as a kid (Air Force Brat), but filtered into 1:35 armour & figures in my teens. Although there were a few car kits throughout my modeling career, it didn't manifest itself fully until I got my drivers licence. The rest is history... -
Correct pronunciation of MOEBIUS?
Hypermung replied to jeffs396's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a very good friend from South Africa whos name is Johan. In Europe it's pronounced Yo- hahn, but in South Africa it's pronounced U1.... Dig that accent. -
Cavalier models ,URGENT .
Hypermung replied to scummy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for that. I've got a HT 350 Monaro with the pewter rims that I've had in the stash for a lot of years. I'd better check it out. Come to think of it, this kit is from the late 90's (when I think Cavalier were moulding them over here?). Aren't they being moulded in China these days?. That may be the problem..... -
1958 Plymouth savoy on ebay
Hypermung replied to Hypermung's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for clarifying that Jon. I thought it was too co-incidental that there were 2 people modifying the same fault outa the same kit, but this must have been the case.. Perhaps the builder of this example gained enthusiasm from your original thread?. I hope you will post some updates on the 58 once you start her again. There's nothing I like more than a fine Forward Looker (except maybe a fine forward lookin redhead). -
1958 Plymouth savoy on ebay
Hypermung replied to Hypermung's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nice job whoever built it. -
This model has appeared on 'The bay', & I was wondering if it was built by a member on this forum ?. http://www.ebay.com/itm/58-1958-PLYMOUTH-SAVOY-PRO-BUILT-ONE-KIND-1-25-PROMO-SCALE-AMT-MODIFICATION-/140614078027?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20bd408e4b.... There was a thread started back in June last year by Jon Cole where he cut the roof off & cut the body in half of an AMT Belvedere to correct the bananna bend in the body, & there was also talk of turning it into a Savoy.http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=32543&hl=%2B58+%2Bplymouth&fromsearch=1.... There was never an update (that I remember) on this build, & I was wondering if it is the same car?

WORKING Christmas Tree Project Circuit
Hypermung replied to Hypermung's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Ok gang. I've been playing with the same circuit again & added a component list. All these components are readily available @ your local Radio Shack, or Tandy, or whatever you have over there (over here in Oz it's Jaycar). As promised, I've also added a few more components to simulate the poor SOB redlighting EVERY time (if you want). You'll see I've added a switch, a diode & a transistor to the collective 5,6,7,8 & 9 outputs, so that when IC2 reaches it's '5' count (if the switch S2 is in the 'on' position), the output also triggers Q6 to switch on, illuminating the 3 'redlight' LED's as well as the 3 green LED's. You gotta pity the fool. He'll redlight every time, until you switch S2 to the 'off' position, then outputs 5,6,7,8 & 9 will only light the green because D2 & D8 (one way valves... remember?) direct the voltage to the transistor for the green string of LED's only. I've also added another 3 white LED's to the staging @ the top of the tree. I'm trying to have this as simple as possible, so If there's something you don't quite follow, just post a question. -

Hypermung replied to Hypermung's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Later on (when I get a composent list together) I'll also modify the circuit to include 3 red LED's (that come on with the green), & can be turned on or off as required.
