  1. I did not know they were still making Promos that late, I just though they went with snap tite for those kits because they were going after kids in that period. I'll take snap kits, better than no kits. I don't really like building motors anyway.
  2. There are quite a few, and since I really do prefer the older stuff, and several resin casters have filled in some of the holes I'm not too grumpy about the state of truck models. However I do agree with those saying there is a big hole in modern trucks, and there are several older trucks we could really use. 1920s-1950 Ford rules the truck model world (1925, 1929, 1934, 1937, 1940, 1950, 1953, 1956) the 1941 Chevy is the only non-Ford truck model in the period. 1957-1972 Chevy has all the truck models (1957, 1960, 1964, 1965, 1972) There is a Ford in there 1960, 61? but it is not easy to find or cheap. The early 50s isn't bad, 50, 55, 57 Chevy, 50, 53, 56 Ford, no Dodges though. The 70s wasn't too bad either with all 3 of the big 3 fairly well represented. So we could really use some pre 70s Dodges, and a Chevy or two older than the 1941. Since the '48-50 Ford and '41-46 Chevy are two of my favorite trucks, and at that time there was little difference between a 1/2 ton or 2 ton truck I'm not doing too bad. Since I've bought 6-8 of each of these kits, nobody can blame me if the sales are not high enough.
  3. I have some questions for those that say trucks are sales losers. If they do so poorly then why have we seen so many in the past? There have been quite a few truck kits over the years so they can't have all lost money. Several of these kits have also been re-issued multiple times, so again must have done well enough. Since they clearly have been popular enough in the past why have we not seen any recently, what has changed?
  4. Well since I have been trying to build the Orange Blossom Special as a stock '37 Chevy pickup, I am sure Revell, Lindberg or AMT will announce a new tool '37 Chevy pickup any day now.
  5. Harry there are plenty of mid 90's cars that get better mileage than their current versions. With the cheap gas in early 2000s many car manufacturers increased engine size and power at a cost of fuel economy. I have a 1996 Toyota Tacoma with a 2.4 liter 4 cyl, with 140 hp, that gets 26-27 mpg. After 2000 they went to a 2.7 liter 4 cyl with 150 hp, that only got 21 mpg. The 2010 Tacoma is the first one in years to get the same mileage as my 1996.
  6. http://classicgames.about.com/od/arcadegam...unterProfil.htm Specifically Personally I don't see it but that is what the game designers said in the extras from the Midway Arcade Classics disc.
  7. I use Krylon, Duplicolor and Rustolium spray paints for most of my car models. If you paint several light coats I find them very easy to use. The only time I have problems is when I get impatient and put a coat on too heavy, 3 or 4 coats 5-10 minutes apart seems to work great. I like Acrylic paints for hand and air brushing. I use Tamiya, Model Master Acryl, Polly S, Vallejo and Games Workshop paints. Be aware however all acrylic paints are not the same, they are all water clean up but use different thinners and not all can be mixed together to make new colors (they are safe to paint over each other when dry). I have used the acrylic paints sold at Michaels, they work fine on plastic. I bought some for some wood airplanes I made, and found they also work on plastic. I use them with my son (9 years old), he likes building dinosaurs and sci-fi stuff, so the colors available are perfect for him. They brush just fine, but I've never tried them in an airbrush. A plastic polish like Mcguires Scratch X or Novus can really improve the final finish of the paint job. I also like Future floor wax for a clear coat, not only is it much cheaper than hobby clear coats it really does a great job fixing my smaller mistakes.
  8. It was based on a Chevy Camaro Z-28 according to Midway. I always thought it was supposed to be a Lotus Esprit, but that may be due to it being the car of choice for the Bond movies around that time.
  9. All very nice but I love the Ford, and the schoolbus is great, I haven't seen many buses built.
  10. Chevrolet / GMC had the L cab, a cabover design similar in appearance to the Ford C that came out 1960 and lasted until about 1980. They also had the short nose B cab (almost identical looking to the Ford N) in the 60s. Unfortunately no kits or even resin of either.
  11. Speed Racer wasn't a great movie but it was better than I expected. They did a fairly good job of being like the cartoon. Of course that means it wasn't as good as it could have been, but it was pretty faithful to the source material. I mean really if you have watched the Speed Racer cartoon as an adult it is not nearly as cool as it was when you were a kid.
  12. As far as I understand the only difference between single axle and tandem axle is the weight allowed on the 5th wheel. My brother drives a single axle Peterbilt mostly hauling gravel, he can pull 2 short trailers (28 foot?) but can not pull the long (45 foot?) gravel trailers. As far as diesels, they have been an option since the 50-60s, but I don't think they really became the preferred choice until the late 70s. I don't know when gas motors were dropped as an option, but I would guess they were still around until the early 80s. The engine in the C900 kit (acually all the C cab kits) is supposedly the 534 ci engine, so it would have plenty of power to pull the car trailer.
  13. my first car was a mid 80's Mazda 626, nice car unfortunately I only had it for about 6 hours when the front wheel / axle detached from the car dragging me into a wall on the freeway. Needless to say the car dealer I got it from (and who supposedly had done a safety inspection on it) gave me a pretty good deal on an '89 Toyota Tercel (which I later found out had the rear springs cut to lower it, the dealer provided a new set of rear springs after my mechanic explained why the car kept leaning to one side). Needless to say I have a bit of a distrust of used car dealers. That Tercel got me around for many years, I put more than 200,000 miles on it. That car always did have a black cloud following it around though. I traded it in to a dealer when we bought my wife a Suzuki Sidekick. About a month later I got a phonecall from the dealership looking for info on the car. Apparently one of their mechanics stole it before they documented the VIN and such. It turned up later when the police caught him trying to get into Mexico. I heard from the car about 1 year later when the new owner bought it from a CHP auction, but the DMV wouldn't register it because I still showed up as the owner. Unfortunately I don't think I have any pics of the car, it is possible that it would not show up on film anyway.
  14. Raises hand, I hate that little bug.
  15. meh, 2112 was a better album, but not as good as Moving Pictures.
  16. Very nice, I took a bunch of photos of a very similar dump truck last year with the idea of building the cab from the '60 Chevy kit. Unfortunately that is as far as I got. How did you make up the GMC in the grill?
  17. I plan to get a 1/2 dozen or so of these, glad to see it back.
  18. Did Joe put his whacked tail gate on the to be crushed pickup? If so what's the problem (assuming no trespassing etc laws were broken), kind of like dumpster diving to get a wheel off a busted stroller to fix your kids wagon. I'm assuming he had some kind of approval from the owner of the truck (Toyota dealer), at least a "what I don't see..." kind of deal, if not I'd agree with LDO, its no different than swapping tailgates with a used truck on the lot (not ok). I'm not a fan of these cash for clunkers programs either. They have been tried a number of times and all have failed to work as imagined, although I believe this one was designed more to stimulate new car buisness rather than reduce fuel consumption / smog production. Personally I would be more open to the idea if the cars were recycled (parted out) rather than crushed. I don't really have a problem with a no resale clause, I just don't like top see a limited supply of parts go to waste if they are desirable to restorers. I did not know the engine was the only part that had to go, I'm more ok with that. Edited due to responses while I was posting
  19. That is my gripe too. We got a couple of recent luxury SUVs, 2 different Escalades, and the Hummer H2 but no real trucks. The last truck kit was the '99 Silvarado, the '94 Dodge Ram and the last Ford was a '91? For more truck like Suvs we have a '96 Tahoe and '97 Expedition.
  20. I don't know how you spell it, but there is a slight differance between the USMC and US Army "phrases". USMC is sort of like ooooo raaw US Army is more like huuuaa
  21. Thanks, I had tried the print screen key before but it never seemed to do anything. I didn't know I had to paste into another program.
  22. 99% sure I've got Windows XP Cal you just hurt my brain, I may appear computer literate, but thats just a front.
  23. Nice job on something we don't see much. I know there is some debate on whether or not the car would have lived up to Tucker's claims, but it was a good looking car.
