  1. The truck looks nice, I like the color combo. If you run an exacto blade lightly along the edge of the tape it will help reduce the chances of the paint peeling off with the tape. Rronning, to make the PE parts, the metal is painted with a coating, then a negative of the parts is layed over the metal. This is then exposed to light curing the resist on the metal that will become your parts. When the metal is put into the acid, the resist that was not cured will disolve along with the metal and what is left is your metal photo etched parts. You can make PE yourself but most people are not too quick to put an acid bath in the garage. Chuck what is the yellow color you used on your truck? I like that, it has a very 70s look to it.
  2. There you go. Yours is a little prettier than mine, but I'm working on that. Just did the brakes so it will stop, and ordered a rebuild kit for the carb so it will go. My neighbor has a plow for a Landcruiser he is trying to sell me, I haven't decided yet.
  3. Talking to the cops around here who have to staff chain control, they get a lot of people who don't even know how to put their truck into 4 wheel drive, and then there are the ones who bought a 2wd SUV and think they have 4 wheel drive because it is an SUV.
  4. Law enforcement likes RWD because they hold up better in high speed chases. Apparently FWD is more susceptable to being put out of action when ramming or other manuevers to disable a fleeing vehicle. I know the California Highway Patrol has specifically mentioned trunk space when they have evaluated other cars. I'm sure tradition also plays a big part in the use of RWD cars.
  5. Worst, hands down Ford Ranger 2wd automatic with a V6, that thing had trouble going straight in the rain. Best... Oshkosh P80 ok, maybe thats cheating, it is a 6x6 snowplow. Second place goes to my Toyota Landcruiser FJ55, it drives the same, wet, dry, snow, hail, blizzard, frogs. It doesn't go anywhere in a hurry but it keeps going. My work truck is a Ford F150 4x4, it isn't bad as long as I throw a couple sand bags in the back. The anti-lock brakes are very nice when it does get a little squirrelly.
  6. Online has opened up options for those in remote areas beyond anything they could have every dreamed of 10 years ago. If you have a good LHS that is great but that is largely a luxury only provided for those near a large city. My nearest "L"HS is 2 hours away 100+ miles each way. My nearest good LHS is 4 hours away. I know I have it better than some for LHS options. I have a better selection of model supplies available online than any LHS I've ever been in, and I've been in a lot. One of the first things I do when I visit a new city is look up hobby shops.
  7. The size difference is pretty minimal, you are talking about 1 scale inch for every two scale feet. 12 scale feet is 6" in 1/24, and 5.76" in 1/25. Even on something big like a 48 foot trailer you are only talking about 1" in 1-1. While I can see the occasional issue with a part such as a wheel which may look over / under size in the other scale I find it very hard to believe there is any difference in detailing opportunities between the two. I would guess the two scales are close enough that the margin for error in the stated scale of the kits is just as likely to be an issue as the kit saying 1/24 vs 1/25.
  8. You can't shop online like you do in a regular store. You have to make larger orders to cover the shipping, many even offer free shipping on larger orders. It isn't really the shops ripping you off on the shipping, most have flat rate packages in different sizes so taking Micromark as an example it probably does cost them $8.95 to ship those pads because it is on the small side for that price shipping package. They could probably add a fair bit more without raising the price of shipping.
  9. Fantastic detailing of the motor, it looks like you yanked it out of the real thing.
  10. Thanks for the tour, it is much better organized than most of the man caves I've seen. Dust must be a nightmare though, do you have any secrets or do you just do it regularly before it gets a chance to build up?
  11. Wow Roscoe is packing a lot of heat, I guess crime has come to Hazzard county. I didn't realize this kit was such a good source for 1/25 guns. It looks good so far, I have one of the Batman Goon car editions with the purple & green car on the box, it looks much better in B&W.
  12. Ha, I see your Swede and raise you an Irish lass. I didn't realize it was time for a new magazine already, I'll be watching my mailbox in anticipation.
  13. Most of the trucks I've driven in the past 10 years used Allison Automatics and they have all been unpainted cast aluminum.
  14. I wish I had a little more time to make arrangements, but I work weekends and can't take off with only a days notice. Hope you guys have a good show.
  15. I can't use that stuff, it is out of scale with my 1/25 models.
  16. What if it has a Hemi? (427 or 454 if you are more of a Ford / Chevy guy )
  17. Then you also have re-issues of fairly new kits vs re-issues of really old kits. A re-issue of a kit from the 90s is quite different from one tooled in the 60s. If you have been away from modeling for 30 years then a lot of Mark and George's re-issues will be brand new kits to you. As far as the jabs at Round 2 over re-issues I guess all I can say is go back and re-read the "where are the truck models" thread, it was pretty well spelled out that the model companies are full of smart guys and they know what sells well. I'm quite sure Round 2 is getting their moneys worth from these re-issues, I know they have from the White Freightliner and IH4300 because I gave them some of mine. (no really please don't start that up again)
  18. I build a lot of other stuff too, but don't post them here due to the ruckus Harry mentioned about the hot topic of off topic. Personally I'd like to see an everything but model cars area, to see what else people are building, and not disturbing those who really want to only see model cars.
  19. Interesting, I just started looking into the possibility of a laser cutter, but that seems to be out of my price range. This actually looks like it could be within the budgets of many modelers.
  20. Cool, thank you. Here is what I've done with it so far, this is the cab for my engine at work. Very neat program.
  21. Thanks, more experimentation I guess. Now that you mention it you were the one that I saw, you used it to design your sand bin. I couldn't remember where I saw it. How did you post the drawings to the site?
  22. I know somebody here uses this program because that is how I found out about it. I've been playing with it and it is a neat little program for designing stuff. However I can not figure out how to print out a useful scale drawing from it, or even a 3 view with the dimensions so I can actually go to plastic from the drawing. I can always transfer it to graph paper by hand but that kind of makes the program redundant (although it is fun to have the 3d model to play with ). Also I've seen people post their drawings from this program, can you do this just like a photo or do you have to save the file differently? For anyone unfamiliar with the program, the basic program is free and if you watch the short videos very user friendly. http://sketchup.google.com/
  23. I saw the seats over at FSM, but you've done a nice job on the rest too, I really like that dash.
  24. Nice dump, I love seeing all the C cabs that have shown up here recently. Brizio, that is one of the AMT Ford C series kits with a dump from somewhere else, I'm guessing IH Paystar.
  25. Headache racks are about as easy a scratch build as it gets. I'd suggest getting some plastic and give it a try, you will probably be surprised how easy it is.
