It's there with Beavis and Butthead for me, funny for maybe 5 minutes and then I'm bored with it. It might be kind of weird but I get far more amusement from the random, "Hey a wiseguy" or "Shut up Beavis" that people just throw out there in day to day interaction, than I do from actually watching them..

I think this thread does a good job illustrating the point. Leave it at the details, and let others decide for themselves if it is important or not. That is were the personal stuff and name calling usually begins.

I just don't know about the appearance. I've seen plenty of 8v71s and 6v92s but never seen a 6v53. I agree that there probably isn't a huge difference in size, but the difference between a Chevy 350 and a 454 is pretty noticeable in 1/25, I expect the same would be true in diesels of similar displacement.

For me, it is when it goes from objective fact based comment "the xyz is a 2" scale inches too long and needs to be trimmed back 2mm". This is something I can use to make my model better, or at least take into consideration when deciding whether or not to buy the kit / make the changes. When it gets into subjective criticism "I can't put my finger on it but it looks wrong" or starts to be based on individual interpretation "this error makes this kit a complete caricature" or personal "this shows that they just don't care" or just gets hammered on repeatedly, showing up in every single thread about the kit then I begin to ignore the comments. If it is information I can take to make my model better it is useful then it is welcome, but I can do without the bashing on the kit and the seriousness of the company to produce quality models.

Rather an odd thing, apparently someone intentionally broke the internet here, took out cell phone and internet to 4 counties for about 15 hours yesterday. Glad it was a work day, I don't know what I would have done with myself with no internet on my weekend. Who knows I might have even finished building a model.

Thanks it was a mostly fun kit to build, I've had quite a dry spell in finishing anything so I'm hoping it is just the first in a line of completed kits.

So today while driving home I saw a "Peterbilt" dually, which looked a lot like the Revell kit of a Chevy with a Peterbilt looking front end (Midnight Cowboy wrecker, others). I always thought this was just a fantasy truck dreamed up by Revell. Was there actually a company out there making fiberglass hoods to make Chevy trucks into little Peterbilts in the 80s? What I saw today may have been a one off custom but it looked very much like the Midnight Cowboy kit with a dually bed instead of a wrecker. While in good shape it looked like it has been around, and working for a living not living the cushy life of a show truck. I'm hoping it is a local truck so I might be able to get a photo.

On Detroit Diesels the second number is the cubic inch displacement of a single cylinder, so a 6v53 is a 318, and a 6v71 a 426. The 71 series has a 4.25" bore and 5.0" stroke, the 53 series a 3.85" bore and 4.5" stroke. The 6v53 weights about 1500lbs, the 6v71 2000lbs, so I assume there is a noticeable difference in size between the two. The 92 series is just the 71 bored out, the 53 and 71 are of similar design but completely different engines.

Neat, you don't see many vans with murals these days, really you don't see many full size vans these days. I remember seeing vans like this as a kid though, that and VW microbuses all deaded out. The mural really came out great, I can hear Dark Side of the Moon playing just looking at it.

Nice job on the Rubicon. I agree it is a great kit, simple but there is enough to it that you can use it to build something more complex, or detail it out a bit. I built one last year and it was the first time in I don't know how long that I finished a kit the same week I started it. The Ford Raptor seems to share many of the same positive features of this kit which to me is a good sign we may get more "advanced" snap kits from Revell.

Kind of a shock to me, I actually finished a kit in the same year I started it, might be a shock to others, it's not red or green. Nice kit, I had a terrible time with the paint having to strip and redo 3 times but the kit itself was very cooperative until the end. All the chrome and the glass wind wings during final assembly are very fiddly and a real pain. On the side pipes I was going for a hot steel look, I used jet exhaust layered with thinned Tamiya clear yellow, orange and blue on the header ends, Games Workshop Chain Mail on the pipes and Games Workshop Mithril Silver on the tips. Then rubbed the whole thing with Hawkeye steel metalizing powder and last gave it a black wash using thinned oil paint. First time trying that technique but I think it more or less gives the look of repeatedly heated steel. Monogram Shelby Cobra 427SC

You know all those wish list discussions we see here? From what I understand the guy behind Galaxie is basically just a guy who decided to put up or shut up about a car he wanted as a kit. It is a very small company without all the industry ties of a more established company so everything costs more from design and production to shipping and distribution. People should really look at these kits as high quality resin that just happen to be made from plastic, nobody would bat an eye at the price if this was a resin kit, in fact it would be thought of as a great bargain.

If you are looking for what I think you are looking for, a lot of people make them from straight pins.

Not aware of one, but Spec Cast and Danbury Mint have them in diecast.

No photo as I was driving, but I saw a very nicely cared for 1980-83 Honda Civic sedan this morning. Not quite show room fresh but maybe just lost that new car smell. Don't see many of these anymore, particularly ones that aren't trashed.

I've seen them, kind of a funny twist, sort of like building a 1-1 model.
