  1. I built that 350Z a couple years ago, and I was looking for something that was similar to Nissan's "Interlagos Fire Metallic" from the 2006 model year. This is the real deal: I found this at my local Meijer, it's called Dupli-Color Mirage. It's a 3 step system that can be used to paint pretty much anything. I used the "Gold/Magenta" one, you can buy it on Amazon.com here: Dupli-Color Mirage Gold/Magenta It comes in a few other varieties. It's a little older but is still available without much searching. I used the "Green/Purple" Mirage paint on my '71 Charger R/T Custom: I also have the "ICE" paint in my closet, waiting to be sprayed on something fitting, this is what it looks like over a silver or white base: Overall, be patient with it when applying the mid step coats over the black primer it comes with. You'll build up a nice effect in about 5-7 coats. I wet sanded between every few coats on the '71 Charger, and then cleared it. It came out pretty decent, but it's not perfect. It does provide a rich color change though, and it really pops when waxed!
  2. thanks guys, and just for the record, I really do not mind constructive criticism. All I ask is that if you're going to give it, make it a PM. I am still learning the ropes around here and all I really wanted to do was show some of my work. I know I'm not as diehard into it as some people are, but those people need to realize that nobody starts off as an expert! LOL it takes years of practice to get to an outstanding level. Be a little more considerate of those who aren't at your level, you were a novice too at one time Even after doing this for 10+ years, I'm still not into it as much as I could/want to be!
  3. Some more rolling abortions from the Factory:
  4. pretty clean build, I have the same model that I'm planning on slamming lol. Was it an easy kit to build, or was there a lot of fitment issues?
  5. thanks, I only have one from about 5-6 months ago. It's also before I added any detail to the engine, but it was painted and mocked in place: I know the paint isn't the best on it in the picture, but it does look better in person. I'm planning on taking it apart to wetsand it more, and to re-clear, buff & polish it so I can enter it in something.
  6. I didn't, really. I used the engine from the Revell '98 Firebird Ram Air 2 in 1 kit (Motor City Muscle) though. Honestly this one wasn't one of my better builds, the engine is basically just sitting on the chassis. I somewhat modified the Firebird's air box and mounted it under the hood latch plate on the Riviera, and modified a radiator & fan assembly to go underneath. I didn't have all of the parts for the Riviera, I had to kitbash a lot of it. Luckily I found the interior at a yard sale in a big baggie of plastic parts. The wheels are from the Monte Carlo "Donk" kit I think. The front glass is hazed and is from my parts box. I don't know what it's from lol. I'd like to rebuild it with new bumpers, glass, chassis, and much more detail once I get another '67 kit. I'm not good at scratch building, so there is a lot that doesn't show underneath lol.
  7. It's been taken care of, lol. I'm planning on making a '71 Roadrunner to accompany the GTX, I just haven't figured out what color combo to do. It will probably be a rare or unique one though, as you could get some pretty odd color combos back in the day, lol. I've even seen a dark green '70 Charger with a green vinyl top, red R/T stripe, and a red interior. Whoever ordered that must have LOVED Christmas! Also thanks, I like it here a lot!
  8. I used Krylon Fusion spray paint that I had in flat tan for the interior as a base. If your dad wants to build one with a vinyl top, have him get the Revell '69 Charger kit (box art shows a blue car w/ white top and interior). Use the body from that, it has a vinyl top. Everything else from the '68 kit will fit perfectly. Of course you could always use a vinyl top material, painted masking tape, etc for a simulated vinyl top too lol. I don't know which kits could provide a correct 318 though. Have him take pics when he builds it! There can never be too many Chargers lol. ************************************ Thanks again for the kind words, this one is my pride and joy so far, the pictures don't really do it justice!
  9. what a cute little car! I've been wanting to build a classic Beetle too, I didn't know they made a Convt. kit, lol.
  10. Yep, love the color. It is a dark, dark pewter/black metallic (not true black). Here are the other colors: I used "Purple Licious" on my '07 Charger Daytona R/T. It is an almost perfect match to "Plum Crazy". The only color I will warn about is "Root Beer". It doesn't come out quite like on the bottle, it is more of a regular burgundy metallic. Like this:
  11. lol that dog doesn't look like it would hurt a fly, it's too cute! I'm not going to worry if someone doesn't like my work, there are much more important things in life and God knows there's enough to worry about as it is! This is my way of relieving stress, not adding to it
  12. LOL! Thank you, I just took some current pics of it last night but they are kinda blurry cell phone pics, I'll get them posted in a few. I'm nearing the homestretch with this one, maybe another month or so and it'll finally be done *************************************** @davezinn: I will definitely give him a call and/or check out that site, thank you! I love those Minilite rims, so I'll be getting some sets for other projects as well as for this Charger too
  13. I'd like to make a Daytona R/T in every color they came in since they were introduced since '05 eventually lol. Here are the only other older pics of the Riviera I have, it has since had some engine detailing done and the rear wheels were moved a little bit so they didn't look so awkward. I have also added black detail foil around the windows instead of chrome, to give it a slightly more modern look. I'm wanting to add working hood hinges as well, but have not gotten to that yet. I keep wanting to go back and add more detail, lol. also here is a Tamiya Nissan 350Z that I painted in a close match to "Interlagos Fire Metallic": That one didn't come out as well as I'd hoped, but I really like the detail in the Tamiya kits, even if this one is only a static display model with no engine detail...
  14. I edited it so nobody else would be making drama for no reason. They are my models, I am not building them for your approval. I do not appreciate how you criticize little details and you can't even say "hi, welcome to the forum". Just because you are a Mod does not mean you have the right to disrespect me for no reason. I mean, do you absolutely have to fuss over whether a picture of one of my models shows a shift boot in unpainted chrome instead of it's current state of correct flat black? It is just as easy to hit the back button if you don't like my work. I don't care if you like it or not, but I would appreciate you not causing drama in my thread, Mod or not. For the last time, if you have an issue with me, then PM me Harry. Maybe you did not read my prior post about these pictures not being up to date because I don't have a digital camera. Everyone else here has been very nice and welcoming, isn't it your job as a Mod to make sure people *want* to be here, to be a contributing member? I could go on, but I will end with this. "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". PLEASE keep the drama out of my thread. It is NOT necessary! I'm here to have a good time. THANK YOU
  15. lol well as I've always been told it's easier to catch more flies with honey than vinegar.... as cheesy as that sounds
  16. well, in another post I added that they were not done in the photos. I noted for each one what needed to be done, but I didn't say that it already has since the pictures were taken. I just re-read it and it makes it sound like they are still in the same state as in the pics. I don't have a digital camera, but once I get one, I'll take new pics and replace these ones. Mod or not, he should PM me if he has a problem with them not being absolutely perfect. I don't want any drama in the thread, I've had enough of that from other forums (which, granted, has younger people on it, but not all). It's not my fault that he came across in a "not so nice" way... there are other ways of handling things instead of making rude comments. Would I be getting that if I were a guy? Probably not. I was hoping this forum would be different in that aspect. All in all, I go with the flow. It's as simple as that... I'm not here to break any rules. I really didn't thing it was worth the fuss if a couple models didn't have metal foil, or didn't have a last few parts glued on. That doesn't mean that I don't take it seriously, as I do. But thanks again for the kind words....
  17. gee, thanks for the "warm" welcome. Maybe you could try saying something nice? Either that or simply don't post at all.... we're all adults here aren't we? Don't see me nitpicking your builds... it's not really that huge of a deal if they aren't 100% complete. It's not like they're all in pieces and I'm like "here they are!" lol. Some people...
  18. lol thanks for the kind words, I figured it they were 99% done I could still put them here. Don't mind me if I don't consider them 100% complete, never to be touched again (unless I'm polishing them lol). I always want to go back and add more detail so that all of my models are on a consistent level. Some cars may have been waiting on a detail here, some black trim paint there, etc. I didn't think it would be an issue lol. I thought I had already done my sig, I'll go edit that shortly. Also, is there a limit as to how many pictures I can post per thread?
  19. thanks for the tip, I'll see if I can get a bottle this weekend As for the choice to go w/ body color wheels with the chrome hubcaps, I personally like that look. It makes it look like a late '60s "grocery getter" lol. I would have made it a Hemi car, but I wanted to build something that would have been more common. This is also a replica of an actual car that is 90% accurate, I'm just not going to paint the roof to replicate a tan vinyl roof lol. The owner of the real car just bought a set of Minilite Trans Am style wheels, so I'm on the hunt for a crisp set of those now... Here are some more pictures:
  20. It's still a work in progress, that has already been done. Thanks though
  21. Thank you! The 'Cuda actually has orange seats, I had to custom mix the color for it to match. There are two 1:1 cars with that color combo, one is a '71 Cuda Convt., the other is a '71 'Cuda Hardtop w/o billboards. I'd like to build the Convt to match sometime too.
  22. Here is my Revell '68 Dodge Charger R/T that I've been working on for about 7 months now, on & off. I love the '68-'70 Chargers in gold, so I went with Testors One Coat Lacquer in "Pure Gold". I've bought every color in that line of paint, it goes on very nice for a 3 oz Spray can. This one is almost done, I need to plumb & wire the engine, add brake & fuel lines, etc. I keep wanting it to be perfect, and it's slowing the progress lol. Getting started: Two coats of paint, before clearcoat: Seeing how the Body color rims & Dog Dish Hubcaps will look: After clearcoat (It was too shiny to get a clear picture!): Tan interior w/ simulated woodgrain, fabric seatbelts. : I use reference pictures on the internet, and have been having a hard time matching the '68 Chrysler Blue for the 440 engine. I even bought the Model Master bottle of it, and after several thin coats, it just doesn't look right. I might just go buy a big can of the real thing, lol. Also, this is being built similar to an actual car. The real one has a tan vinyl roof, but I'm doing that with another Charger I'm building, so this one got the Vinyl roof nixed, Let me know what you think of it so far...
  23. Hello, my name is Michelle. I'm a 25 yr old chick from Michigan, and I've been building model cars for a little over half of my life, lol. I like to add a little more detail with each one I build, but I'm nowhere near the pro that a lot of you guys are! I've seen a lot of astonishing work, hopefully mine will be as nice someday As you can probably tell, I love Mopar Muscle cars (Dodge Chargers in particular). I want to build a '73 Charger SE replica of a car I used to own, but I'm having some trouble finding a kit of a '73-'74. I also have a soft spot for Imports and I'm just recently into Supercars. I like all kinds of cars really, too many to list. Here is a handful of my 99% finished models, I have yet to unwrap some since I moved last month lol. I am still working on them officially but I keep starting new projects, if they are not 100% complete and that annoys you, I don't know what to tell you... don't be so negative! (YES I edited this to avoid more drama... just saying that if you don't like what my pictures show, *Please Note* that they are older pictures. All of these models have since been completed, but I do not have a digital camera to take current pics. Use your imagination! ) '71 Plymouth GTX 440 Six Barrel (still needs chrome foil & rear spoiler in this pic) '71 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda "Creamsicle Cuda" (friend bet me I couldn't complete a kit in less than 24 hrs. I proved him wrong) '69 Dodge Charger Daytona (still need foil & under hood details, misc. in this pic) '67 Buick Riviera Mild Custom w/ LS1 Engine (finished since these pics were taken) '07 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T (#666 of 1400, "Purple Haze", has since been completed) ** I have some more, but they are still wrapped up from moving. Once I get them cleaned and polished I'll post them here as an update ** Let me know what you think!
