  1. Picked up Revell's new 1970 'cuda today, as well as Monogram's '71 Plymouth GTX, and paint for both. Overall was a good day!
  2. ....and the poll is now closed. 35 members voted, and out of the 35, 24 members said YES to a Charger 500, and 11 members voted against it. Well, I guess it's time to go pull the materials out of storage and start mastering up a body!
  3. This is full conversion kit. The only thing necessary for a Charger 500 using the Daytona is a new body, grille hood, and front valance. Everything else is the same.
  4. Patience, young grasshopper! I still have to complete the master, which is at the bottom of my list right now as I have to have the replica of my grandfather's car done by Friday night, and then I still must make the ever so important decision on whether it is worthwhile to invest in casting! (Ah, the struggle)
  5. Yeah, but does everybody just have a hood from a Revell Charger laying around? Maybe if you are a diehard Mopar fan, but I am including the hood because it is a critical piece of body sheet metal, and it makes the conversion kit complete.
  6. Yeah, that's what I was planning. Use the Daytona as the donor, and just cast a new body, grille, hood, and valance.
  7. Personally, I know how well they did, but out of respect for his businesses privacy, I won't say. I'll allow him to chime in and say how well the '70s did.
  8. Me and Kevin at Missing Link have been talking, and we came to the conclusion that for a conversion kit for the Revell '69 Daytona (includes body, hood, grille, and front valance), the estimated price would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $53 to $55. I have edited the topic so that it now has a poll. If you would be interested in purchasing one in that price range, then please vote in the polls so Kevin and I can get an idea to see if we want to continue this project.
  9. I just sent a email to Kevin at Missing Link. We'll see what he says about it and if I should proceed to create a master for casting.
  10. That would be nice, but the you would be able to see behind it, and into the R/T grille. I thought the real car had the Coronet grille bolted on over the Charger grille, turns out I was wrong. The real car had the Coronet grille mounted in the Charger grille surround, but the Charger grille was removed so that if you looked through the Coronet grille, you would not see the Charger grille behind it. I was thinking of cutting the bumper off a MPC 500 grille, trimming the actual grille to fit within one of Revell's '68 Charger grille surrounds, and casting it as one new piece that would fit the Revell fenders like a glove. Photoetch would be nice, but a little impractical too. I'm gonna get in touch with Kevin at Missing Link and see what he would charge to cast it if I mastered it.
  11. That's what it will be, a direct drop over the Revell Daytona.
  12. No pics right now, but I did paint the floor pans today and flock the carpet with black flocking. I'll have pics when I join the chassis and the floor pans together.
  13. I would like to get some opinions on this before I master up something, but how much interest would there be for a Charger 500 conversion kit based off of the Revell 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona? If I did master up such a kit, it would likely include a new body shell, hood, grille, front valance, and the interior floor and package shelf. Just trying to get some opinions before I start trying to hunt down two more Charger bodies to make one to cast. This is the Charger 500 Edit: I have since added a poll to the topic. This poll will run from today, until Tuesday September 23rd, or one week from today. Please vote in the poll as it will help me gain a better understanding of whether or not I should continue with my endeavors.
  14. Well guys, after hearing some input, I have decided I am gonna build a Charger 500. I will use the Revell Daytona for pretty much everything, and the Revell '68 Charger R/T will donate its hood, fenders, and front valance. I will saw the Daytona fenders off right in front of the cowl and then graft on the '68 R/T fenders. I will have to purchase a Charger 500 grille from the Modelhaus. My car is gonna be B5 Blue with a C6D Blue interior and white tail stripe. Powertrain is gonna be the base 440 with a four-speed. I will probably start up a build thread here in a few weeks.
  15. Yes. On the real car, Dodge contracted out Creative Industries in Detroit to build them, and all Creative did was take regular Chargers, weld in the real window plug, repaint the body, and bolt a '68 Coronet grille on top of the Charger grille. The only difference between the two grilles in the badging. One has R/T on it while the other says Charger 500.
  16. Thanks guys. I found a spare Revell R/T body today and the more I look at it, the more I think I can pull off a fender swap with the Revell Daytona. I'll have to find a Revell Daytona kit, a MPC 500 grille, and a set of tail stripes, but I'm thinking B5 blue, white stripe, either a white interior, or a lighter blue, with a 440 Magnum and 4-speed transmission. The ideas are taking shape....
  17. Hey guys, I have a recent craving to build a Charger 500. I have a Daytona and enough '68-70 R/T's to make my head spin, and I now want to add a 500 to the collection. My question is, how to do it? Would hunting down an MPC kit and popping the chassis and driveline out of AMT's GTX/Roadrunner be fine, or would it be better in the long run to grab a Revell Daytona kit, a '69 R/T body/hood/front valance, and a 500 grille from the Modelhaus and graft the R/T front fenders onto the Daytona body? Would the MPC grille even fit the Revell fenders? I really want to do this with as little sawing and hacking as possible, but if everything will fit, I wouldn't mind sawing off the fenders and grafting them on the Daytona body. I just would like some opinions before I start hunting stuff to build it this winter.
  18. IMHO, I'd make it shiny. Very shiny. Sorry, I just love Dodge Chargers and Challengers and really any Mopar. It breaks my heart to see a rusted up build and see that in reality that is what most of those cars are doing, rusting up someplace.
  19. Hey guys! Sorry I haven't posted much lately, I have been without internet for several days. Anywho, I'm back at it again with an update! I got the body painted and detailed. I ran out of BMF on my Daytona build, and the only way for me to get it is to buy it online, and I don't have the funds for that right now, so I just did my usual treatment with a silver Sharpie. I painted the chassis Metallic Red, as I wanted something to contrast the gloss black floor pans. I assembled the suspension, and got the engine nestled in between the frame rails. Anyhow, that's all for now! Enjoy!
  20. I used Model Master Acrylic Chevy Engine Red for the engine. They had another color, GM Engine Blue that I was gonna grab, but I did a quick Bing search on my phone to see if '64s had blue engines or red.
  21. Ok guys! I need some GM fans to chime in on this thread to point out my flaws. If it isn't obvious, I am a Mopar guy, and this is like my third Chevy. Just so you know.... Anywho, the engine work has started. I need to paint the oil filter, but the stupid instructions assume you are going to be building the car as the Foose version, and therefore only give you the Foose color options. The carburetor, painted a more correct aluminum color instead of chrome, and given a light black wash. Went on ahead and detailed the wheel covers/hubcaps/whatever Chevy called them. Painted the alternator bracket flat black. (Harry would be so proud that there is actually a bracket.) The fan parts The exhaust headers. Enjoy!
  22. Nice work! This is the first time I've ever seen somebody completely mask off a body and spray-paint on all the trim work. Can't wait to see how the trim turns out with the tape off!
  23. Hey guys! Brandon here with another project! This time it's Revell's new 1964 Chevrolet Impala, re-kitted as a "Chip Foose" version. My grandfather was diagnosed with cancer recently, and his first car was a '64 Impala. I will be building this car as a replica of his, and will be giving it to him for Christmas. The paint will be Testors Blazing Black, part of their One-Coat Lacquer line, with a black/red interior. Enjoy!
  24. Very nice. I am thinking of building a Challenger for my collection aswell.
  25. Awesome progress! Personally, I would have painted the vinyl top before doing the decals, but that's just me.
