I have one of these, brush painted with Testors square bottle enamel in need of rebuilding. I need decals for mine too! Looks like blue is about the only way to go with this one! I like what you did with yours!

The majority of my builds from about the last 5 years are rattlecan painted. http://public.fotki....rd-5-window-st/ http://public.fotki....y-pickup-stock/ http://public.fotki....-utility-vette/ http://public.fotki..../mpc-vette-van/ http://public.fotki....do-sport-truck/ http://public.fotki....ado-plow-truck/ http://public.fotki....kenseth-2005-t/ http://public.fotki....lassic-kustom-/ http://public.fotki....kustom-chopper/ http://public.fotki....ala-ss-amt-kit/ http://public.fotki....69-charger-500/ http://public.fotki....an-racer-wedge/ http://public.fotki....evyorangewedge/ Other models are airbrushed with Testors basic airbrush and enamels which proved frustrating more often than not. Some of my old Survivors are brush painted when I was a kid.

The gas prices going up is making me buy less and make fewer plans to go to shows. In fact I'm thinking of selling some kits since I have more than I'll build. I only get so much done and you never know what'll happen with production and aftermarket parts suppliers. You have to get the stuff when you can.

Here's mine with mostly supplies and small parts from my Silverado Plow Truck and '72 Heavy Chevy builds. The plow truck was finished but ended up getting dropped and badly damaged. The bodywork and paint quit fighting me and it's well on its way to finished. My vantage point from the chair. Angle shot of it with the overflow shelf at about shoulder height to my right as I sit at it. My photo box doubling as an overflow for painted bodies. The truck topper just got another coat of Future. Just waiting for the Future to set up better before handling. The Heavy Chevy body and hood are ready for final sanding before paint. ] The photo box from my vantage point as I sit at the table.

History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups
skmodelcars replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Enjoying this thread! GREAT info here! I have most of the kits mentioned here in some way, shape, or form. -
I chose the last option because it just depends on what I'm building since my subjects vary so much.

I like that!!!!

Would you use a promo to start a project?
skmodelcars replied to Wheels's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sure, I would use a promo as a starting point. They are based closely on the same molds as kits of similar subjects. I wouldn't use a rare expensive one unless it's the only way to get the correct year or style. -
Getting Back Into The Hobby
skmodelcars replied to Jdurg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can't add much that hasn't been said but "Welcome back to modeling!" -
Pretty sharp looking model! Yes, black is the most difficult color to get right since it shows any bodywork or painting mistake you can make. Doesn't look like you made any mistakes here!

I have always liked cars and enjoyed tinkering. I built when I was a kid and it takes me back to simpler times in my life. I also have some repair and bodywork experience from my young adult days and fantasize the vehicle is the real one at times. Researching subjects helps me learn about cars I think are cool or would own if I won the lottery! I'm thinking of doing a landscape to use as a photo backdrop. The creating process is rewarding and It's just FUN!

I'll also post the one I did 3 years ago here too! Here's one of my Testors Chevy Avalanche diecast kits. It came painted ArrestMe Red and thought I'd see how House of Kolor Tangelo Pearl would look on this. I used the red as base and scuff sanded it. I then cleared with Folk Art Clear. I discovered a couple thin spots below the mirrors and on the fenders. I scuffed those areas and masked the rest. The 3M 2" blue tape left marks and luckily Folk Art clear buffs out beautifully! The gray plastic trim on the tailgate had to be touched up and this required mixing black and gray Plaid acrylics. I ended up painting ALL this with the new shade of gray. All that gray plastic trim except the tailgate is seperate from the body and is it fiddly! I used 5 minute epoxy that dries clear to secure this. This began life as this!

Last night I finished this one after 3 years! I stripped the bright red finish from this with Paul's Pines and repainted with Duplicolor Self Etching Primer and Duplicolor T164 Dark Blue Metallic. I cleared this with Folk Art HiShine Glaze. I buffed it out with 12,000 grit and plain Colgate toothpaste after about a week. The tailgate inner is missing but it'll be displayed with the tailgate and doors closed. I also had to foil the mirror lenses since they came off with the paint removal. I managed to match the gray trim on the tailgate close enough to not have to do all the trim like the orange one 3 years ago! The kit.

I was wondering if anyone would post one of these on a model forum! Looks pretty good being the MPC/AMT tooling.

No matter how much you enjoy something, breaks are needed from it to avoid burning out or overdoing it. Some weekends I'd rather be out on the town or out of town but plans aren't always there. My house could be neater too. When my house is TOO NEAT I don't like to mess it up again. It's about balancing your priorities. I wouldn't feel too guilty about not building when other things need to happen.

I only enter older builds if it's a show I haven't been to or if it didn't win or place. If it won or placed at the same contest I don't enter it again. All the category fudging and re entering the same unchanged build is ethics challenged in my book. If I remember right, someone at Mad City Modelers show in 2008 had a bunch of very well built model cars with "Do Not Judge" signs by each one. I build because I WANT TO BUILD! I always try to do better with each model I do. The shows just add camraderie and shopping opportunities I have always enjoyed. I actually do very few shows in a year. Depends on my building, what I'm shopping for, and other things in my schedule at the time of the show.
