Revell '57 Chevy Convertible.
niteowl7710 replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well nothing I suppose... First of all, I was just giving Mark a hard time, he's a friend from back when we had a chat room around here. But beyond that Revell has never shown test shot/tooling mock-ups of kits with minor changes. There weren't test shots of the Nova SS and COPO Nova from the original Yenko kit. Of the 150/BW from the BelAir kit. I can't remember seeing mock-ups of the Yenko, B-M, SS Convertible '69 Camaros from the 90's kit, and therefore I doubt we'll see one of the ZL-1 variation. If the '57 Convertible isn't out before the Late Fall-Winter new/reissue announcements, we might see the box-art model on display. Then again, you never know. I don't remember Revell ever showing off these parts layout/tooling test shots "in the gray" build-ups prior the last few years either. -
Interesting the version of this kit that Revell of Germany sent over here and was sold in the States (and sold in those big oblong boxes that Revellogram was prone to use in the late 90's) WAS the Barchetta. I've only seen hardtop kits from Hasegawa and Tamiya.

I really like that color, looks like it went together very well. Aoshima has released at least 11 different version of this little car, and they just reissued the 10th Anniversary Edition this month. So anyone who wants a try at this they're out there, at least 3 other versions along with the 10th Anniversary Edition are still in production.

What do you need test shot pictures for...take a '57 BelAir or 150/Black Widow kit. Now imagine the top missing. Voila! It's not like it's some all new tooling, just a new body insert, convertible boot and soft top for their existing BelAir kit. -

Did they even do away with the non-commissioned M.D.C. Rangers? -
Hmm me think that wasn't cooled entirely prior to getting ejected out of the mold. The easiest thing (unless your LHS is over hill and dale) is take it back to your place of purchase and get a replacement. Any reputable shop will have a way to deal with Great Plains in regards to getting a refund (aka replacement kit) for their inventory and supply you with a kit with something less appearing to have been rear ended by a cement truck. You're looking at 2-4 weeks (my last replacement part was almost 2 weeks to the day I requested it) for them to get a new frame out to you, presuming they don't want you to crate that one up on your own dime and send it to them so they can examine it.

Saving instructions
niteowl7710 replied to Terry Jessee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Some people save the box, or at least the cover box art of all if their built kits, and I have a couple of model kit boxes with every set of instructions of every kit I've built (excluding multiples of the same kit - eg NASCAR, multiple builds of various law enforcement vehicles, etc.) -
2012 Dodge Charger's?
niteowl7710 replied to robiwon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes they are 1/24. They were available in their police form at Wal*Mart for like 10 minutes one Tuesday this Spring for $10. I bought the only two I ever saw. Motormax is supposed to be doing a new run for the police customizer market that will have the sunroof filled in (the first batch was just the civi version with a lightbar painted black & white with Dodge Fleet Decals). -

There's a diecast from Motormax, that's the only game in town, and likely to stay that way. -
First of all bidding 37 minutes before the auction ended is hardly what I call "last second" or "sniping" for that matter. The auctioned opened at .99 cents, and two people proxy bid the thing from the opening bid up to $17.75 & $20.99 respectively, and then the last max proxy bidder had the remaining 37 minutes to outbid Nick. But like Dave said some people rather bid that way than baby-sitting the auction in the last 5 minutes. Bid your max and let the chips falls as they may. Depends on the auction, if it something I want, and there doesn't seem to be a ton of interest in it (aka 0-2 bids during the run) I will wait until the last minute hoping that some people tossed a couple of cheap bids, and I can get it for the next bid increase (or opening price) which is the el cheapo method. If it's a kit with a bunch of bids where people are nickel and diming up the price the entire time I will wait until the last minute because erupting a high priced proxy bidding war just runs the price of the item up days before the auction ends which gives everyone time to consider whether or not they want to bid more. I will toss out my max bid with about 20 seconds left, cause yeah, I don't want the other people to have a chance to bid again. Besides if their proxy bid wasn't high enough to outbid me in the automated raise/call system on eBay they didn't want it as bad as I did anyway. The concept of bid snipping/auction stealing software is no different. Sure it bids at the absolute last possible second, but you still have to set a max bid for it to stop at, and it's not really any different than having the auction staff run your bids doing a phone bid in a live auction. If you get outbid on eBay it's nothing to be annoyed about. You either need to open your wallet further or accept the fact that people have bigger wallets than you do. With 75k model kits on eBay on any given day the vast majority don't even sell, and that's not taking into account the people who seem to think they're cast in platinum. It's sorta that gag-line the auctioneer on "Storage Wars" says before every auction "Whoever has the most cash in their pocket can win it today!" That's the truth with any auction

Vintage 1994?
niteowl7710 replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Funnier yet, how about all these crazy names that people give their kids anymore. They're all going to get old someday. You're going to have a Golden Agers trip to A.C. where Niveah and her "partner in crime" Destiny hit it big on the nickel slots...then 85 y/o McKenzie hit the jackpot! -

That "vintage" of Metallica, STP, and Nirvana (to name a few) are all starting to get airplay on Classic Rock stations. -

I don't even care what this thread us about anymore, it's the Ancient Aliens guy ^^^ I love that guy, it's worth watching just to see what level if dishevelment his hair will be in any given episode. -

Thanks for clearing that up Dave. Consider me thoroughly relieved and standing in line then. -
My LHS is giving out free tubes of the red Testors glue with every kit purchase this fall which I have had to practically throw back at them to keep from winding up with a surplus of glue which I'd never use. Which got us (myself, the owner and the "model car guy" on staff) into the debate about the best glues, and the fact that once again the non-toxic stuff smells worse than the toxic glue with the bonus that it doesn't actually adhere the parts together.

Good show, but you better have something to enter or have friends to hang out with, because it's not the most automotive friendly show in respects to the tiny vendor area. I believe there were all of a dozen car kits available there last year out of the 12 or so tables of kits for sale. But piles of armo(u)r, aircraft and ships if that stuff floats your proverbial boat. Plenty of automotive entries in the contest itself, but there's nothing to buy in that genre.

If the plan is to make real police department decals with real period correct equipment (like the correct fender spotlights pictured above and not the J.C. Whitney tear drop non-functional parts pictured above) I'm very interested. If the plan is to make a kit of that whackerific Mayberry...thing...I'll pass. -
I saw that, that's clearly a J, and I'm sorta "meh" on that, as while it's an interesting design study, it's just that, a one-off concept. I've much rather have the Roadster first, and have the J be another version down the road. I'm sure the Roadster WILL be forthcoming at some point, but the J isn't as high up my "gotta have that" ladder. P.S. It really is a Roadster, not a Spyder you guys are killin' me http://www.lamborghini.com/en/models/aventador/lp-700-4-roadster/overview/#!slide/808
