The story of the 1/16 Aurora Racing Scenes model kits
niteowl7710 replied to Ben's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The "best" part of that post on FB was the subsequent reaction by some folks who felt it was Atlantis' duty and obligation to provide everyone with a public list of what they purchased even after the post mentions they wouldn't do that. -
More paints from Splash. The two little ones are part of the small line of Land Rover colors Sam has decided to do - for the new(ish at this point) RevellAG kit from two years ago. The bigger bottle is a custom mix of 1988 Toyota Dark Blue Pearl for the Hasegawa MR2.

Latest batch of goodies from HLJ. The Platz Japan specific reissue of the 320i has 3D printed belts. These are becoming a fairly common item in airplane models/aftermarket but is the first time I'm aware of them being included commercially in an automotive kit. They're a nice middle ground between the waterside one dimensional kit decals and going through the process of making a set of fabric/P.E. belts. Also included is the first in a series of pre-decorated/open option P/E license plates being sold by Platz. This first set represents Setagaya/Matsudo/ Mt. Fuji (Yamanashi)

1/25 AMT '65 Chevy Nova "Twister" AWB Funny Car
niteowl7710 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
To be fair though the P/E badges, multiple wheel options, and all the other random extra parts have been in those kits since they were tooled up 30+ years ago, the only thing that's being added is the window masks and maybe aluminum license plate blanks in the most current reissues.- 33 replies

Shoot growing up I had the beginning of console gaming, infancy of computer gaming (Test Drive on 82 floppy disks for the Commodore 128), and by the time I got to H.S. the dawn of the WWW. You either get bitten by this hobby or you don't, stop blaming whatever thing you "don't get" for someone not liking the same thing you do.

There has been a vendor area at this show in the past. There is a 1:1 car show going on at the Berlund Center (the now sponsored name of the Roanoke Civic Center) and the model show is held in one of the lower-level exhibition halls below the main show venue. The upper part of the Coliseum (which is where the Ice Hockey team plays) is an indoor car show, and then the outside area is more cars and a 1:1 Open Air Swap Meet. You used to be able to get into the model show without paying the GA price to get into the MDA 1:1 Car Show. At least that was the arrangement the last time I was there, which was before the addition of the Special Events Center and the remodel to the Coliseum interior.

A&N Model trucks will be doing a Kenworth w990
niteowl7710 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Interesting sleeper choice. That puts this as more of an oilfield/equipment hauler/vocational set up than an OTR truck. Nobody who's gonna be out for 2+ weeks at a time is specing a 990 with anything other than a 72" Aerodyne and most likely 84" Studio Sleeper. 52" sleeper is for someone who gets home every night or so (or get daily hotel rooms with their haul contract) and has the sleeper just in case they run out of hours on a well pad or something. A lot of the dry bulk sand haulers for the PA/WV/OH shale gas fields have these kind of trucks. -
LHS has gotten in the '56 Ford Thunderbird reissue in today, so that's one piece of the backlog on the market finally.

Wouldn't that just be like the Flurona thing when you get Covid and the flu at the same time? One fever can't cure another...you'd just be doubly down with Travolja Fever...Bajvolta? Either way sounds sandy bellbottoms all around.

Don't drag Aoshima down with that mess they just offered it as a reboxed kit once when they were doing a series of Euro kits (which also include the MGs). That monstrosity is 100% Revell Germany. For the same reason Revell doesn't do Ferraris anymore, the licensing has gotten prohibitively (in their opinion) expensive to pay for...it's incredibly hard to convince the bean counters to pay for something that will be a financial disaster if the kits don't sell exceptionally well.

No Tom Lowe owned Playing Mantis (Polar Lights/Johnny Lightning) which he sold to (RC2) in 2004 which is several years after Racing Champions had bought ERTL and made the new company RC2 (1999). RC2 then sold everything to Tomy (2011). A couple of years later after the 2004 sale Tom Lowe started Round2 and leased (from RC2 in 2008) and then bought the AMT/MPC/PL tooling from Tomy in 2012. Tomy kept and still uses the Ertl name for farming diecast & toys. Tomy still owns and operates RC2 as The First Years, Lamaze, and Learning Curve brands. In 2016 Tom bought back the Johnny Lightning trademark from Tomy (they had discontinued the line in 2013) which makes the ownership circle complete.

Well Salvinos is taking a flyer on trying to attract the beginner/returning modeler by offering one of their 70s Charger kits molded in Petty Blue - so you allegedly don't have to paint it - and then supplying what they're calling vinyl wraps(instead of water slides) to put on it. If they're anything like real wrap material that could be interesting for their upcoming 2022 Camaro schemes...albeit I'm not sure how you'd take that to a contest if you wrapped your entire model, and didn't have to paint any part of it.

Right, but the gold ones are the ones that are still languishing on shelves, at least at the 3 local brick and mortars locally. It's been that way with pretty much all of the dual color run releases over the past several years. It was a shot in the dark to find white B/M 70 1/2 Camaros or '67 Shelbys, but the molded in color ones hung around for months. Shops could clearly sell all the white ones they could get their hands on, I have to wonder how it impacted total sales to have a part if the run get passed on, because those are orders vendors aren't placing to wholesalers when you can't move product.

The most recent reissue (molded in Gold) was in 2016. So while it doesn't seem that long it has been 6 years since the kit was current. I think the molded in color thing stunted sales the last go around since those kits never seemed to sell very well, at least not locally.

Pegasus/Moebius had some of the Galaxie Chevrolet kits on their table at Vegas. I didn't get a chance to speak directly to anyone regarding them, but the concensus seems to be they at least acquired the distribution rights to the remaining kits from the reissue of the Fleetmaster and release of the Coupe. I full admit I don't have any idea if that means they control the tooling as well or not.

They fixed the typo regarding the Volvo and Merc, although the Volvo is weird as it was just reissued last year whereas some of the 2021 1/24 never did.

1/24 Revell '79 ('81?) Chevrolet Camaro Z/28
niteowl7710 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It took them the same 5 months to finally get the scale of the '69 Camaro correct. Two miracles is too much to expect apparently. Wasn't either the 69 or the "81" also listed as a Z16 originally as well? 1999 is getting their info directly from Germany, they've been getting some U.S. kits months in advance of when we actually got them here...it was nearly a full half a year for that Halfcab Bronco kit between it's Japanese release and U.S. one. Doing a quick go around I don't see this kit listed for order anywhere in Europe (the 69 396SS is on pre-order everywhere), nor is there any mention of it on Stevens or any US Distributor list either. FWIW the only upcoming kit on the TBA list that now has a price is the '56 T-Bird which is clocking an MSRP of $34.99. They're also sold out of Henry Js already... -
1/24 Revell '79 ('81?) Chevrolet Camaro Z/28
niteowl7710 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I addressed this back in the Vegas stuff, but that's 5 months ago now. Ed said that the year was incorrectly listed in the Revell Germany listing and the kit was the 3n1 '79 that's been around the block several times. It's due for a reissue just based on the usual 8-10 yr cycle that Revell has used on general kit runs for years. I can't speak to what the blurry picture shows vs. the contents of the '79 as I've never had one, but the wheels look like the ones that were in the original Midnight Z Monogram box art from 1985. -
He wants the N13 Pulsar EXA(NX) which is the 2nd Gen version, the Aoshima (ex-IMAI) kit is the 1st Gen version.

A handful of the known Revell US reissues 67 Vette, 37 Ford P/U, Malibu, GSX, 70s Z-28, and the modified reissue of the 69 Camaro 396SS were all recently added as "After-April" in Japan, which roughly translates to meaning 2nd Quarter. So getting them here should be late 1Q/early 2nd Q depending on how long it takes to work their way through the 104 boats in front of them and what if any of it makes it off the docks in China before Lunar New Year.

Correct. Of this specific full-tilt boogie Rally homologated car there were 771 sent to Europe. The Gr. A car was run at limited events in WRC in 1991 & 1992 before factory support was pulled. What you're thinking of via Belgium is the technical support Nissan provided for the Nissan Belgian Rally Team 1992 Gr. N entry for Grégoire de Mevius and Japanese Privateer entry Nishiyama Racing driven by Hiroshi Nishiyama who finished 1st & 2nd respectively in that year's FIA Gr. N Cup.

This is once again rearing it's head, at least on the mobile version...best illustrated by an ad appearing over the thread about ads appearing over threads...
