  1. Other than a pair of missing mirrors, I'm calling this done. 90+ decals is actually a lot of fun.
  2. I feel better knowing I'm not the only HLJ addict here. I'm looking forward hopefully to different liveries from Studio 27.
  3. This booth is not cheaply made. This booth will suck any vapor out you spray. This booth is made for acrylic painters in mind. This booth's hose vent was designed to be placed near a window.
  4. Finally an affordable version!! The MFH version is nice but too expensive.
  5. What say ye about airbrushing 2k clear in a basement workshop? The shop is drywalled and sealed almost every crack with spray foam. I use a 3M mask and a Pace Spray Booth vented to the outside. My question is this: Is the workshop safe hours later after I've painted? Will it be safe for me without a mask?
  6. I wouldn't be surprised to see these sold out very soon. I purchased the volk and am contemplating the other.
  7. Nice choice Maltsr. There are aftermarket decals avail from Studio 27 if you want some variety.
  8. Slowly making progress. Mounted the windshield with smoked windows. To get the proper stance, I had modify the suspension, which again eliminated more parts.
  9. Crea.Exp....how long is your drying time?
  10. Dude, that car looks phenomenal! I was torn wether to get that kit but now I'm down with getting one. Well done monfraire.
  11. I thought the 1/32 Tamiya P51 I recently bought was big, but that thing is giant!
  12. Small update. Wetsanded with 1000, 2000, 4000, 6000, and Scratch X for a while.
  13. In short, use 30-50 PSI, spray a mist coat, blow dry, mist coat, blow dry, mist coat, blow dry, mist coat, blow dry..you get the picture. Search Youtube for numerous videos on how to airbrush Autoair, Wicked, etc.
  14. Wow. That's really good!
  15. Nicely done O-Man...looks really sharp. I have the same car but a Tamiya kit. Here's an update on my GT3R. I sprayed about 9 coats of rustoleum crystal clear. Ill let it dry for a few days and start wet sanding. I'm close to 90 decals. The chrome on the lizards alone was about 27 seperate decals. Unreal.
  16. I've successfully thinned Tamiya with water, 70 percent alcohol, windex, and Future. But none of them worked well with Tamiya metallics, gold leaf, etc. I buy lacquer thinner where ever its cheapest as I tend to use it a lot for painting, cleanup, airbrush cleaning, and so on. Home depot, Lowes, Walmart...it all seems to work the same. Like I said, just be sure to practice first. Once you figure it out (not hard) you'll be amazed how nice the metallics and thicker paints are. No more chunks, clotting, etc. Hope this helps. And you can also use it on the rest of the Tamiya line with great results.
  17. Tamiya metallics are best airbrushed when mixed with cheap lacquer thinner. I add some paint to a small mixing pallette or graduated up. Then I add lacquer thinner until the mixture is somewhat watery. I'd guesstimate I use a 1:1 ratio of lacquer thinner to paint because of the metallic. Stir for a minute and spray. I spray at about 12-15 PSI. Very fine mist coats will cover nicely. But I recommend practicing on various scrap pieces and old unused parts to get it right. You might have to add more paint or less lacquer, etc. Tamiya even recommends lacquer thinner as it dries much faster and dries lays down smoother. I rarely use my Tamiya X thinner anymore unless I am using a paint brush.
