  1. I'm not sure what happened to him, Jim. His work is good and I wonder if he's still around. This grille requires folding and soldering to get it into shape but the cool thing is that he sent my grille already done.
  2. The suspension in the Autocar dump truck kit is made by Rockwell and is not exclusive to Autocar. The axles are also Rockwells and could be found on Autocars, Kenworths, Peterbilts, REO, and as a rarely sold option on International trucks as well. The weight rating for the axles was 38,000-58,000# while the suspension had a weight rating of 50.000-70,000#.
  3. I forgot about the K123 really being a K125 as it came in the box for the first few years. I knew the W925 had the torsion bar suspension at first. I wonder why amt changed suspensions. Then again, ERTL did the same with the Transtars. They included air suspensions at first, then later, they had springs.
  4. Thanks. I haven't worked with PE much so I'm still getting the hang of it, but the grille definitely is an improvement.
  5. Not much progress to report. I worked on the interior a bit. The quilted upholstery detail was sanded smooth for a more plain appearance. I also threw in a couple of shots to show the grille. It's only a test fit. The grille was part of a photo etch detail set made by Harald Weber. It includes the door handles and window cranks seen in the pic. I'm getting a little further with the frame as well. I'll post more when I can.
  6. The Transtar 2 with the covered wagon is outstanding!
  7. I love it. Excellent paint and detail work.
  8. From the 1967 K100 brochure. Sorry if these are a bit blurry.
  9. K123 and W925. What's that mean exactly? Most truck modelers know K100 and W900. I will share with you the info that will help you understand what K123 and W925 means. It's about suspensions, weight ratings and the number of rear axles. The first set of pix are from a K100 brochure from about 1965 judging by the truck on the cover. The next post has pix from the 1967 brochure. Calling the W925 a W925 is incorrect if the kit has the Hendrickson Walking Beam rear suspension. It would actually be a W923. K121/W921 (4x2) Single rear axle. Spring, air, or torsion bar suspension. K122/W922 (6x2) Tandem rear axles(one is a drive axle, and one is a pusher/tag axle) spring(not sure about air) K123/W923 (6x4) Tandem drive axles 45,000# GVW spring(Hendrickson Walking Beam or similar) or air K124/W924 (6x4) Tandem drive axles 55,000# GVW spring or air K125/W925 (6x4) Tandem drive axles 46,000# with torsion bar suspension
  10. Thanks for sharing these. I love the paintjobs on the old K100s.
  11. Jim, the cab, as molded, has the headlights sitting too high. There's a red and yellow Freightliner he built and the text he adds to most of his pix explains it pretty well. It wsn't written as an article, just text in his photos.See if this link works. The text in this pic explains it pretty well. public.fotki.com/mackinac359/freightliner-models/amt-white-freightli/wf-dd-amt-14-jpg.html
  12. Thanks Tim. Also, thanks for posting the headlight lowering technique on your site. It really does improve the appearance of the kit's cab.
  13. Here are a few more pix including a quick mockup. The scratchbuilt lower radiator mount and the narrow metal front bumper are also visible.
  14. The trailer is AMT's Fruehauf reefer with a few mods. It's a built up I bought off of ebay. I detailed the air system and the reefer unit. Also, I added a side door from a Great Dane dry van kit. The decals come from the original issue of the Ford Louisville Short Hauler kit.
  15. All the builds I'm working on except for one are either restorations of old builds or finishing up projects I started long ago. This is a project I started in 2010 and had to put away a year later. It's pretty far along and since the trailer for it is done, it's time to complete this truck. It's a project I wanted to do for a long time. I had a White Freightliner SD kit and several DD kits. I swapped cabs between the kits and went for quite a few additional details. The daycab will be the focus of this thread. The single axle sleeper tractor will be shown in another thread. The following has been done: Air line details The interior is being detailed with photoetch A Detroit Diesel 6-71 engine has been detailed and will be installed. AITM 2 hole Budd steel wheels are being used. The cab has had the headlights lowered The wind fairing has scratchbuilt supports. Shortened fuel tanks. The frame is an inch shorter. The battery boxes are from the SD kit. Cab color is pactra RC257 Daytona Yellow. It seemed like a close match for the Ryder yellow. Decals are from an original issue amt Mack Cruiseliner kit. Next post will show the trailer.
  16. Roadway used exterior post vans and trailers like the Fruehauf van with the riveted sides.
  17. I'm calling this little moving van done. The trailer is a box stock restoration of a built up I bought on ebay. As to the tractor, it was a combination of a K123 I built and scrapped many years ago and a fresh K123 kit. I made the following modifications: The frame was shortened to a 130" wheelbase. The kit's engine converted to a Cummins NH 250. AITM 2 hole Budd steel wheels. Brass exhaust shield with aluminum tube stack. Scratchbuilt driver's step. reduced size air cleaner with srcratchbuilt piping and stack. Air line and engine details. Shortened fuel tanks. Conversion to single exhaust.
