  1. AAARRGGGHHH!!! These prices!!! they are insane. I just paid $91.01 b4 shipping for a Frank Gortsema Autocar AT 64 F conversion kit, but I wanted that one since my teen years, so I didn't mind. That's the one with fiberglass hood that looks like a western star from the eighties. But every one of these revell kits I've been trying to get. I wish I knew. As to the Emeryville, it went from $15 to $76.01 by the time I woke up the next morning, which made me think I should probably reconsider bidding. It was on there for 2 days when it went to like $112. I probably made too many pruchases recently, but I firgured I should try and snatch up those rare, or at least rarely ever cheap kits when I can. Which is why I have 3 A64B Autocars. I have plans for those, but I got them cheap compared to what they normally go for. Dave, looks like you got a good deal or two.
  2. Dave, that is a great idea, because the box shows that hoses go on the pins real nice, only to find out they are too big for those small hoses. I'm going to try that for the next one I build. Kurt, the tank is from the trailer kit. Thanks for the compliments.
  3. here is the cab before it was stripped it. it's in the sanding/primer stage now. this will be the paint scheme. the stripes are from the autocar dump truck kit.
  4. It does. I never drove doubles, but I am licensed for it. As 4 how they are dumped, I believe the train is broken up first, but I'm not sure.
  5. Oh the things you can do with putty!!!!!!!!!
  6. All that rambling, and I forgot to say, nice truck. I like the reverse lights you set up too. 8)
  7. I now just have to build the dolly and the pup trailer. Also, This will have a set of tarps, and some safety chains for the tailgate, as well as, Maybe, the air locks for the tailgates. not sure if I will go that far, but I might. These are the tarps I'm trying to make.
  8. Incidentally, the box is painted testors Aluminum plate buffing laquer. In person, it looks like real aluminum.
  9. I'm making the Autocar into a Michigan train. Here is the first trailer. It's not totally done, but we can recognize it as a dump trailer. It's box stock, but with a modification or 2. The axles were all narrowed 1/4 inch on each end, and I added a landing gear crank. This is my first ever build of this kit. I like it, but the air lines are harder than they look. Anyway, at least progress is being made. ...and another pic... ..and a kind of/sort of mock up.... the next step is the engine and its compartment. Not much else to do with the truck in the shop again. That's what happens when you put the wrong turbo on an engine, it blows. LOL
  10. Me 2. i thought revell would have. I'm sure it probably would've had some wild mural decal too.
  11. That's cool. I like the stretched cab look. I see the pic had a box sleeper behind the cab, but this is better.
  12. I've been so distracted with my KW that I forgot to post a pic or 2 of the cabs. All I have done so far is cut down the sleeper. Just above the side compartment door, all the way around. In other words, the top half. I'm just making drawings, and matching sections right now. It's one of those "take a break from the other two" projects at the moment.
  13. By the way, I like the base. It almost looks like it was made using a barbell weight judging by its shape.
  14. Duplicolor Chrome is good, gives a polished aluminium look. I have a 40 ft Fruehauf reefer I did in that color, and it gives a good shine, but not mirror finish. As to the 3 footer, casey, there's nothing wrong with that at all. I agree with Anthony. I think we should remind ourselves that this is for our enjoyment. I personally don't do contests. I love sharing my work, and I was always proud of my Autocar, and the work I did on my Ford, but even my 3 ft models brought me joy. However, they all got a trip to Ray's Scrap Yard because, while I may never enter a show, I wanted that show quality on my shelves. This little subject came up with me yesterday. I was building the first trailer of the Michigan train to go behind my Autocar. I was pulling my hair out because the air lines that come with the dump trailer kit, when cut, can be a pain to handle, and getting them to stay still long enough for the glue to hold was trying. I had to remind myself of what my high school auto mechanics teacher used to preach, when you get mad while working on something, take a break before you make it worse. But in the end, the idea of this is to be fun. I know my trucks won't be perfect, but I love sharing them here.
  15. For those of you who have read my post on this truck on the model trucks page, here are some reference pix if you would like to try one yourself. I am making my cab using the cabs from a Freightliner SD and a freightliner DD(mainly for the sleeper). I also included shots of the sideways mounted Cummins engine, which actually sits below the truck body or drom box. The turbo is mounted to the frame rail on the driver's side. I will say that this is one of those trucks that will be difficult to research, but I will pass along any pix I can. 48" BBC with flat rear wall. In this pic you can clearly see the turbocharger and air cleaner on the frame rail. The small muffler is also clearly visible. this is the engine underneath the truck body. Viewed from driver's side. Note the tiny muffler. Air cleaner is on frame rail behind engine. This is the naturally aspirated version of the engine. As i get more info, I will share it. peterbilt experimented with one of these, but I don't think it ever made production.
  16. So that's how you made the rivets. That must take patience, but nice job.
  17. I know it wasn't you, but he got it fair and square. I was going to raise my bid earlier that day, but got distracted. Oh well. To see it go to someone in here is ok with me. I will be watching for this truck now that I know it's a rarity. Shame. You know what amazes me? A 379 kit in 1-24/5 scale never got put out there except as resin cab/hood kits. I'm guess the mfgs. thought it looked too much like a 359 to do the new tooling. just a theory. The 378 was as close as we got, and it came with a 40" Freightliner sleeper. I never noticed, but did Revell AG make a 378? I know they pretty much copy every Italeri offering as far as American trucks go.
  18. I agree with Rocket, but seeing your other models, these results don't surprise me. Awesome work.
  19. By the way turbo, the reason I called it the petermonster is because of a similar truck that was owned by a friend. Big triaxle pete with a big dump body like this one. The more progress I saw, it reminded me of that truck. That's what we nicknamed it. It had a pic of a large cat looking like it was clawing its way thru the metal on the hood, and this truck was pretty big. Hence the name. CAT powered of course. Brought back some good memories.
  20. That one went for $107.50. i had it until someone snatched up last minute. I wish I was online, but I do know someone from this forum got it, so that makes me happy.
  21. Looking good Casey. By the way, you mentioned Westley's Bleche White for removing chrome. THANK YOU. this stuff works wonders!!! I'm glad you shared that tip. It doesn't eat the plastic like Polly S ELO.
  22. Looking good. Really good. A lot of excellent details on this truck.
