Welcome aboard Jeff. I will try to explain as best I can. For starters click post reply, or new topic in the list of topics. When you get to the box where you do your typing, right below it is a link that says Add Image to post. Click it, and after a sec or two, a window should open, look near the top of the window where it says Browse, and click. It should take you to where you can open pic on your comp. Once you do that, find your way to the disk, camera memory stick, or folder, or wherever you keep your pix, and click on the one you want. You will then be brought back to the window that popped up. Click up load it. Look in the box for the text. You will see two lines worth of computer text and whatnot. Somewhere in those 2 lines is the name of the pic. If you want to post another, simply click add image to post again, and repeat from there. I know this sounds like I'm being sarcastic, but I figured if you missed a step, or didn't know that when uploaded, it shows up as the text name first, you may get lost. When you click submit, you will see the actual pic. I hope I explained that ok. You may have a slightly different program, but that's what happens for me. Good luck. 8)

Scott, I appreciate that, and I will go check on that. However, I must warn you of a rule here. Jarius enforces this law. Your name must appear, and since, like me, you're using a nickname, go to your profile and put your first and last name on the signature line. If not, Jarius will send the MODEL POLICE DEPT S.W.A.T. after you! 8) Just kidding, but on a serious note, it's the one and only thing he asks. I believe he's like site admin., or the moderator, something of high rank here.

Sources for Trailers?
SpreadAxle replied to NorthWest29's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I have to find them, but I have pix I took of what could basically be called a "flatbed" container. Works with any container chassis, but the container itself is just a thick deck, with a wall at the nose, and the wall at the tail. No sides, no roof. I think those end walls fold down also. If I find the pix, I will put them in 1:1 reference. These were taken last summer, I just have to find where I hid them. -
Sources for Trailers?
SpreadAxle replied to NorthWest29's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I kept thinking Wabash myself, as it did resemble some of the trailers I pulled at Marten Transport. They use lots of Wabash trailers, as well as Great Dane, Utility, and the occasional Trailmobile. I never knew about the kit being in 2 scales. I wonder how they pulled that off. I'll have to get out the scale rulers. I would scratchbuild some vans, but I don't know where to begin to get the right material for the horizontal ribs that run the length of these trailers. I looked at Plastruct and Evergreen, but I'm not sure what would be best to use. As to the containers, they looked right in the catalog. I should've known. When the box arrived, I was disappointed. I knew I could find containers easy enough to study, as I went to a lot of ports at that time. By the way, I saw your chassis, nice work. -
Well, it seems someone upstairs likes me Dave. I have probably the most honest mechanic I ever met working my engine. I'm here a few more days because of him, but he saved me nightmares. One of the intake valves on #2 piston, which was the piston where everything related to it was rebuilt in January, has beaten its way thru the vlave seat in the head. It was literally burrowing its way into the head. When My valve cam went out, that caused this. My warranty is being much more cooperative than last time. In fact, my cylinder head is at Cummins right now. I'm waiting for it to return, so that Scotty, the mechanic, can complete the job. He said it would've ran, but he knew it would'nt be long before I was in this situation again. The MHC Corp, which owns this dealership, will get a nice letter praising his efforts on my behalf. He takes pride in his work. I highly respect that. The other thing about this place, they only let certain people work on ISX powered trucks. I like that. You can tell this man knows what he is doing. Thanks for asking. 8) I will post more progress tonight. Before I forget, I like the exhaust pipe idea. I will try that on some future projects. I think I have a solution worked out for this one.
-
It's one of those projects I'm surprised no one else ever did. Seems fairly simple. Mine was going to have the roll up rear door, with markings for a ROADWAY, CF, ABF kind of company. I may make up a name too, not sure, but thanks for the tip. I have a couple of the AMT Tandem vans I bought off ebay, and there's at least one kit missing parts, so it was going to be the kit I used for the longer version. I may make tow long trailmobiles now.

Sources for Trailers?

Scott, I downloaded an in progress pic of that tanker a long time ago form Tim's website. I finally see what it looks like finished. I agree that AMT brought back a handful of kits, but as for the Italeri 48ft van, I say it's better than nothing for the exact reason you mentioned. It's the only American trailer we ever got from them. I bought 3 of their container trailers a long time ago knowing I would be scratchbuilding a chassis that is American. Revell AG gave us a few as well, like the Beall tanker. I will say this, I've noticed that the trailer kits seem to go quickly when they are stocked, and they are the first thing dropped by the manufacturer, it seems. Speaking of the Italeri 48ft boxes, I know that no OEM is listed, any ideas as to what this trailer most closely resembles? Wabash, American, Utility, any ideas? I know you would be the best to ask on this one. -
Hey Scott, I cruised thru your albums. I finally got to see what my 40ft trailmobile project will look like, only you took the time to add swinging doors. I saw quite a few projects I've had in mind actually. The tanker caught my attention. Nice to see the old AMT tanker can be done in different ways. Very nice work displayed on your page. Very nice.

Thanks Dave. The part that is fighting me now is the exhaust pipe. It's not from the original kit. It was the Diamond Reo exhaust pipe modified to fit, as it is meant for the turbocharged version I went with. however, looking at it 10 years later, I know I can do a better pipe. One that actually fits properly. I'm working on it now, but I thought I would yake a breather for a moment to see if any new models showed up.

I figured you did some cleanup work before the photography was done. But you still did a nice job. I will be picking this kit up. I know the KW suspension I will be copying has a delicate piece or two, but I would like to "airbag" my KW's, especially, since that suspension, the Airglide 100, was used all the way up until about 2000, so that would be accurate for my T800 conversion when I put it together someday. Let me know if you ever cast a more delicate, intricate part how it turns out. Thanks for the info

Roadkill, that's a good looking Buick there.

Quick question Anthony. The wet tank you use on a lot of your dump tractors, is it made from a battery box? It sort resembles a Freightliner battery box from the Testors/Italeri/Revell AG kits. It looks good. When I saw the black Ford LTS on your fotki it reminded me to ask you about that.

nice mixer Anthony. Good job.

purple shake & bake--updated 5-24
SpreadAxle replied to phoneguy's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Wow. That was fun guessing at the recipe for ol' shake and bake here. I can't believe I got that many right. Cool. -
the cab is just here for show, but I thought i would share today's progress before I went to bed. I had some interruptions, but I got some stuff done. The frame weathered with a light coat of dust. The engine is installed, and is under going its last few small details and lines. this is a good feeling, to see real progress on this truck. I still have another coat to go then I can start with the decals and installation. Enjoy. ...and another one.... and here's one more for you...

Casey, you did a fine job casting those parts. Where did you learn to cast like that?? I would like to cast a couple of copies of the airride suspension found in the AMT Kenworth Aerodyne Cabover kit. I have an article, from SAE from like 1985. It's in one of their best of books. I would like to know how you did these so good. A wheel and an exhaust manifold. If you can cast those, I would say you're good. I wasn't quite sure how to go about making the two piece mold the article mentioned. in fact, it seemed a bit confusing to me. Maybe I should just cast the parts still on the trees. If you have a good, more up to date article, could you tell me where to find it. thanks Casey. keep practicing, so I can buy from Casey's Resin Truck Parts 8)

Well, Miguel, I'm a truck driver, and I build right in my sleeper as I travel. One of the many things I purchased on eBay was a built up reefer box trailer. The box is long, just under 2 feet, but narrow. It's perfect for carrying my trucks as they come together. My paints travel in an old utensil tray from an old kitchen. Other tools ride in a prepared shelf. Although my truck rides fairly smooth, I pull a flatbed, so I go into steel mills, mines, construction sites, and down rough roads. I make sure that when the model is packaged in one of my boxes, I brace it within the box so it doesn't shift. Some of the roads I travel are rough. As for bases, I work on them at home. I found that the key is bracing, and sometimes more bracing. Once I put my cabs on their frames, that's when the trucks become easier to break. I find too if you put the item in a box that's just big enough, brace it in, and then put that box within a bigger box.

What detail has been the most difficult to find?
SpreadAxle replied to Barbo's topic in WIP: Dioramas
Barbo, do you shop at Walthers? You would probably be the guy to ask this. I have some livestock trailer models, and I was wondering of G scale is 1/24-1/25 scale? I want to see if I can find some cows in that scale. I have a funny idea for a dio. I've been looking for cattle in this scale, but I want to be sure G scale is right. This one literally popped in my head just now. I'll be writing this one down and drawing up the idea. But the key is a few cows. I have the truck and trailer with me, so after I finish the two I'm doing now, I will start on my cattle truck. This will be funny. -
I agree. I like the B train, and hope to see it when it's done. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the work in a very weathered model, but you and I are the same in terms of weathering. My Autocar that is being done right now will be pulling a "Michigan Train" of dump trailers. I did weather it, but I want it to look as though it fairly new and gets washed once a week. Like it's maybe a year old. The wiper streaks are a cool idea. I think I will add those. Eventually this will be part of a dio. Maybe with the driver tying the tarps down, or something like that. I want my trucks that end up in dios to have the drivers doing some of those basic little tasks. We'll see where this one ends up.

378 Spread Axle - #9 for 2007
SpreadAxle replied to mackinac359's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
There is one on eBay right now. It has a reserve, but it's at $49.99. I don't see why people put a fairly low starting bid, and then the reserve. If you want a certain amount, then start close to that amount. But that's just me. it has 3 days left, so maybe one of you can get it. Anyhow, good luck. The 378 watch continues. -

purple shake & bake--updated 5-24

I knew we had the Autocar/White Motors cab with fenders from another truck. Now i see we have a KW Alaskan Hauler front end, with probably the headlights from another KW kit. Is that a resin Mercury sleeper or did you stretch one from a Diamond REO kit? Let's see, Canadian or Alaskan hauler pete rear end. These are my guesses. Let me know if I'm close. -
I know Peterbilt painted engines white, but KW and International liked their engines red. I'm not sure if KW painted engines white as well, but I know about red. I'm just not sure if it was every single engine like Peterbilt. From what Tim tells me, if you install a Detroit Diesel 8V92 Silver, you can leave it silver as Detoit Diesel apparently used to fuss about painting engines white. But it seems that by the mid 80's, everyone installed engines in their factory color. CAT yellow, DD green, and Cummins Beige. I know a lot of older Kenworths I have seen that still have their original engine have them painted red. It seems from drivers I've talked to that older trucks tended to get a new engine if the owner kept them a long time. I hope that helps a little.
