  1. I can see that winning an award at a contest, definately.
  2. Cool concept. i agree with Tim, that looks like like a railroad truck 4 sure
  3. the old MTFA( now AITM) carried metal stacks also. I have a set that has Pete muffler guards with rain caps. they do look good though.
  4. this is an otherwise cool thing done at this website, but some of the links on the flatbed/dropdeck/lowboy articles are mixed up. Read carefully. all there minus the 48' spread axle. I have that article on paper. I will send him the corrctions/omissions as soon as I can get 2 a scanner.
  5. I'll put it this way Dave, everything we do is MICROMANAGED. and that's putting it mildly.
  6. For those of you who smoke, or live with one, here is an easy way to get a good powder for weathering engines, chassis, or making your model look like it got the usual winter salt bath. Take your ashes, and save them in a ziploc bag. You can even flick your ashes in the bag like I was doing. Every so often, just kind of squeeze the bag. this will grind the ashes into a fine gray powder. You can even leave the ashes in a bag and throw a part in there, then shake the bag with the part inside. No, the model or part won't smell like an ashtray unless you stick it up your nose. i put mine in a Floquil paint Jar. It's full, but there's a month's worth of ashes in there. Should last for quite a few projects. It does replicate the road salt fairly well. It looks just like the the stuff that gets all over my coat when I brush against my rig in the winter. Sounds sick, but it works.
  7. I love it. I could us these for loads on my flatbed trailers. I have been looking for the answer to this very question. thank you.
  8. Oh ok. I didn't know you had it, but your wreckers sure are nice. good work.
  9. Oh what I could do in a 27' box as far as a workbench goes!!!!! I kicked around the idea of making a small section of the 3 door enclosed headache rack on my other rig into a spray booth complete with a vent tube and fan. then a friend of mine quit the flatbed biz(harder work than he thought) and gave me his equipment including his 25' long chains. they took up the space I planned on using. seems crazy to do to a truck, but I stay out longer than most. I may still do it in my new enclosed headache rack. A fan and tube wouldn't be too hard to put in. Just need a shelf to hang in there. I would certainly get a few oddball looks from the other truckers as I stood on the deck plate spray painting in my headache rack, spray painting models. LOL!!!!!
  10. Never mind!!! Sorry. The 3406 article is there. I read right past it. what a blunder!!!!!!!! the cummins page info was correct. after looking thru what I had, he is missing 2 trailer related articles. One is to convert the tri axle dump kit into a framelss dump, the other is to detail trailer air brake lines. I know many of you have these judging from the models I've seen here, but I hope newcomers, and people missing some of the articles can find what they need here.
  11. The article on detailing the Cat 3406A found in the Monogram snap kw and pete kits(as well as the currently reissued pete by revell) is missing, but I can post those pages as soon as I get access to a scanner. Also, the article on detailing the Cummins found in most AMT kits is missing its last page, but I can get you that one also. I copied every article and put them in a binder to keep with me in the truck, but this will allow me to save these onto a disk. on the site he says he always spilled something on the pages. I do that a lot myself, so I'm copying them into my comp. so much easier. i hope someone finds it useful. i sure did. 8) 8) 8)
  12. http://scalerealism.com/truckdetails.htm Thsi guy has scanned every page from every article of Detailing Model Trucks as found in Car Modeler magazine. I hope this will help some of you. This is where my CAT 3208 details came from. He also has, in its entirety, Phil Jensen's 1973 article on building a Holmes 750 wrecker from the AMT body and mounting it to an AMT Autocar A64B. I was missing a few artciles from this series, so this was a big help to me. I wanted to share this with all my new friends. Good luck. I hope there is some inspiration for you.
  13. Go to this link. this is Phil Jensen's article in full on making a Holmes 750 out of the pete wrecker and mounting it on an autocar A64B. Close examination of the a64b and dump truck kits revealed to me that the chassis are exactly the same, minus the fenders, and the rear cross member, which the dump truck kit includes the tractor rear crossmember in the kit, but use the one 4 the dumptruck. I thought of you as soon as I saw this. Good luck if you ever find the dump truck kit.http://scalerealism.com/imagesb/tidew.html
  14. If you look at the box art of this kit, this is the $405 Kenworth I was telling you about. http://cgi.ebay.com/Revell-Heavy-Hauler-KW...1QQcmdZViewItem
  15. Brian and Tim, you both have my dream workbench. Here's is assembly station #1. That's the passenger seat in my T600 off to the left in the pic. Some of my other tools are in a box that I pull out when I do my work. As for assembly station #2, it was a nice big wooden workbench at home with parts trays, etc, but I have since moved.
  16. The green pad so common on here is available at hobby lobby. You can probably get the sewing pad Tim mentioned there as well.
  17. sorry my lead didn't pan out. I would like to find one myself.
  18. Well done. I love your signature line too. As for the fate of the cabover, I don't even think they are offered by anyone anymore as a road tractor at least. Although this little guy would've rode rough, they were fun to drive. I drove a short wheelbase Astro myself, although it had a sleeper, but it was a neat truck in it's own way. like the details. I didn't know Corn Flake ran Astros, but it is cool.
  19. i don't blame you on that one. Spaulding's had 2 mixer kits, which I swear were mere copies of the mixer in the KW kit. One was a short barrel, and one was the same size as the AMT kit. Not on their price list anymore, been 5 yrs or so since I remember them offering it. I know I posted a lot last weekend, But I get a kick out of this subject. the W925 should be easy to find, and those high float front wheels/tires are available in resin from what I've seen.
  20. It was quite fun actually. A challenge
  21. A few pix from Ray's Diesel Garage: Caterpillar 3208 I continued with the engine details. I left the valve covers and alternator chrome as this wild be a mildly custom truck. Maybe a second or third owner that breathes new life into an old truck kind look, without going nuts. This will be a working truck. The filters came out of the Snowplow kit, left them orange to look like Fram filters, wish I did a better job on the big black letter F on the fram filters, but I'll take it. Tonight and last night were the first time I've done anything since the injector lines back in Dec. i finally glued the intake cover to the hood. the holes were opened up, and the hinge brackets I made were done 13 yrs ago, b4 the door hinge crisis scared me away. Still working on those, but I will at least go further on assembly this time. Wish me luck.
  22. Try this link http://www.stlouisdumptrucks.com/convoy_001.htm this is what i was telling you about. I got to it from the german fansite.
  23. thanks Dave . this movie was a favorite of mine. Was released in 1978(just like me). As a child it had one main appeal, Trucks. And lots of them. But when I found the now closed up website with the all the info on this truck, I feel as though I could kick myself for not copying it all into my computer. Very useful things in there, as well as some interesting facts in general about the movie, and the Bruhn family. owners of Bruhn Trucking in New Mexico, who supplied several of the trucks in the movie. The kw with the bottom dump that is always right behind the Duck, is an "as-is" Bruhn Trucking rig. The supplied the Blue and Gold 352, and the red and white 352 as well. These were painted for the movie. Anyhoo, he had a bunch of cool info. the german site listed on JBOT is really cool too. It features the truck and trailer model that was so very accurate and was featured on Tim's site.
