  1. Don't overthink it, usually the flat deduction/allowance is more than your annual expenditures are. Go ahead and add up everything and you will likely see you spent less than that flat rate, I think it is $7000.00, but don't quote me. As one who has been in this hobby as a business for a decades, will share that only during a few years did I exceed that flat deduction.
  2. That is not a bad price at all. I say that as someone who has invested countless hours making them for myself. But I would not buy them, I'd rather spend time than money in this case...
  3. I've done it before. I once made a temporary windshied license so I didn't have to clutter up the back of a car with a plate so I could enter it in a street legal class.
  4. Don't you mean Circus Tractor ?
  5. No it is not OK to slam any modeler talented or otherwise. But you know what? I didn't see one slam or insult applied to Romell in this thread. I see where people claim such negative things have been said (Including Romell), but no actual "slam" comments from members. Why is that? Is it a case of feigning victimization? I see comments about the model, both positive and not so much, yet still all valid opinions, but nothing other than that, no slams, no personal attacks no bashing of him or his model. Can't people express their (sometimes dissenting) opinions here on this open forum without being actually treated as some are falsely complaining they have been treated? It makes me wonder... Go ahead and check to see if I am worthy to offer an opinion based on my building ability too, let me know if I get a pass.
  6. That is a Jag rearend. You might consider using a C3 or later Corvette IRS set up too. Those prototypically use a transverse leaf spring and outboard brakes. The key is to determine the track and build within that boundary. That means you'll need to decide on body/wheel well width and wheels & tires before making the parts.

  8. Actually, he sits at my feet in my shop and my drawing room (or on his pad in the machine shop) and is being schooled as to what he can and cannot have. And he has his own safe areas so if I drop anyting he won't get hurt, (and I have time to grab it before he does). When he was about 8-9 weeks old he tumbled into a box of spares and sprues and did not like it at all. That seems to have worked to make him not like styrene. The worst he has done is to mouth a cotton glove liner and chew an unneeded decal.
  9. Since you directed this at me, I will respond to you Romell. Thank you for recognizing some of my points are correct, I think they all were correct, but that is my opinion, and why I stated them earlier. I’m not sure why you think anyone is asking you “to prove anything”. I didn’t see anything in the comments along those lines except it seems you have taken things as if you have been challenged. “Phony hype” was in reference to your inaccurate claim that this model is 100% scratchbuilt. I think we can all agree what you are claiming and still trying to justify as “100% Scratchbuilt” is not the mainstream definition and comes off as self-serving hyperbole, and to me dishonest. Would you prefer I use the term “Real Hype”? I’m not “pretending” anything, but you are inferring quite a bit. Not sure what you are talking about as far as "excuses" other that you’re defending a poor fit issue by admitting it is there. (Is there a head scratching emoticon?) If I feel like commenting on a current issue on this open forum don’t you agree it is my prerogative to do so? I am still the same person I was and have been for quite some time, I’m sorry if honestly stating facts and opinions causes you to lose respect for those who have the integrity to say what they think on an open forum. M Maybe you don’t know me as well as you assumed? Maybe you should not post your work on an open forum if you don’t want honest responses? Quite honestly, despite your adamancy otherwise, you do come off as thin skinned about this issue. I read all the posts and didn’t see any mean spirited jabs or insults, (unless you count the relatively accurate die-cast comparison opined and apologized for). I’m still amazed at the perspective you have taken and the wording you have chosen, especially for being a moderator. Is that a cuss word that is #####'d out in your post? No personal attacks were used in this post…
  10. Jim, Great looking dog, is that a Newfoundland? What's he weigh?
  11. I cleared the body parts. Because of the color and touch up required around the headlights I installed the clear covers before the clear.
  12. Very cool! (But it still has the Daytona windshield, not a Corvette's.) It has a great '80s vintage look to it. Well done!
  13. I always thought and still think the actual/honest definition of scratchbuilt is that the subject was made from scratch (raw materials), not just modified from other parts (resin, kit or otherwise), by the builder of the model. That is a key part, by the builder. And most certainly not farmed out, as those parts even if they were scratchbuilt or machined by a 3rd party, would be considered the same as aftermarket when used by anyone other than the person who made them. Not something that can be ethically claimed as scratchbuilt. IMHO stating otherwise is disingenuous at best. Why not let the merits of the model carry it without the phony hype? It has several issues I can see that could have been done better (as we discussed in person last September), but you clearly put a lot of effort into it and as long as you are happy with it, so be it. But everyone is entitled to their opinion good or bad aren’t they? As for “personal attacks”, I just see comments about the model and statements that were made, nothing leveled at you personally Romell. Am I wrong to expect a little more balance and clearer understanding of what is posted from a moderator? I still have to wonder why you take issue with an observation about it not fitting together well in your photos “it fits this way because I dont want to push the parts together as this is made to display open trust me it all goes together very well” . Well, if it fits as well as you state it could have been set up that way for the photos couldn’t it? Why chastise the guy who points out what you admit to as ill fitting (with an excuse)?
  14. Ditto Pete. It's how I justify my Caterham habit...
  15. The interior is done, a simple one piece plus steering wheel affair. Decals are kit supplied. Wheels and tires are done too. No lettering on the rears since they are covered with skirts.
  16. This is the newest addition to my family. We got him about 6 weeks ago. Unfortunately he turned out to be very sick, (bad seller/breeder). And also taken prematurely from his mother. But we were lucky enough to get him the hospitalization and treatments he needed and saved his life. He fought for almost two weeks and won the battle. (Note shaved forelegs where he received several I.V. treatments.) He was down to just 4 lbs. 6 oz. Now he is this big… Maybe 18 lbs. and full of energy. Tanner the Golden Labrador.
  17. Acrylic Enamel is not the same as just acrylic. For example, Dupont Centauri is Acrylic Enamel. What brand are you using? You should be able to find a spec sheet for it online if the instructions are not on the can. If it has dried fully, you may have to sand the previous coat to get good adhesion for the next one.
  18. Doesn't matter the scale, I wear glasses to read... The wing gets one wrap around piece of purple decal. The side decals and some top stripes are on too. More cracking to contend with, but nothing catastrophic… I cut the door lines so the decals would conform to them better and will touch up the recesses later.
  19. Decaling the body on this one is the single most time consuming part of the build. I started with the front and then did the roof and engine cover. Being older decals, there was some cracking, but most of the cracks were easily lined up during application and barely visible. Just to apply these four decals took about 3 hours. (I painted the black trim and vent details prior to decaling.) Touch up where needed will be done once all the main graphics decals are applied.
  20. Dive in and try one Don, it is not that different from styrene. The rear wing (resin and brass construction) was also assembled and primed before it, the body and mirrors were sprayed base gloss white.
  21. Another resin Jaguar kit by Starter… The casting was pretty clean overall, only a few pinholes and a little flash. The kit builds one of five versions and includes some extra parts to do so. I cleaned up and lightly primed (in white) the main body before attaching the brass rear skirts and the resin right side panel specified for the winner version.
  22. Thanks guys. I am pretty sure I used TS-42 Light Gunmetal Gray for the wheels. It is probably called out in the instructions too.
  23. I shot the wing with Alclad Chrome and then cleared it before applying the decals. The body panels are on; it was a bit of a fight to get them even partially lined up. As you can see, it looks like sits a bit high in the rear; the look is exacerbated by the undersized wheel & tires.
  24. I put the talcum powder in the paint and spray it.
  25. With all the plumbing and wiring crammed in the engine bay, the engine cover does not (as expected) fit well. I found it is possible to attach the center section of the engine cover to the main part before installation then feed the wing supports through and mount them to the framework. The roll bar cross brace had to be cut and raised to allow the engine cover to fit under it. I used the kit provided seatbelts and they were not difficult to work with. While they are a bit heavy handed, I wish more kits came with something like them.
