  1. Thanks guys. That one was finished almost three and a half years ago...! The rear louvers were grafted in from a Ferrari F40 rear window.
  2. About 1/64th. 2.8 inches long nose to tail.
  3. Thanks guys. Yes, I made the decals myself. I'm using Decafix paper. I did another version using this GTO casting and painted the headlights as you describe, but it drew attention to them in a bad way. It is just a Hot Wheels and in no way meant to be a realistic replica of anything. The black behind the vents (among other things) is something I can do on a Hot Wheels that I would not do on a "real" model. It was meant as a styling accent, not a hogged out crescent in the fender...
  4. Not what you expected? Inspired by the new 599 GTO…
  5. Nice job Steve!
  6. That has to be the best one of these kits I have ever seen finished. Great job!
  7. I had some that went bad before it separated (resin). Meaning it looked OK, but did not cure correctly. Once it is separated it is bad, you can see it. If it has not separated it might still be good.
  8. I have built quite a few of those, both for myself and for box art, and while they are finicky, they can be build into decent models. But using the new tool version would be my choice to do another now, and I may just get around to it since I have a stash of those first run OEM decals, and I am the actual son of the "Driver" in that iconic box art, (as well as the adopted son of the "Builder").
  9. There is this one...: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=50656
  10. It is a DanHausen white metal kit (Metal43) from the '80's in 1/43rd scale.
  11. I made a new correct license plate and replaced the wheels and tires. The rest is straight from the kit.
  12. If there is a 1/8 scale C5 available, I would like to know about it.
  13. Yes, the AFX and T-Jet wheels will work. Even though they are listed as H.O. (1/87 scale), they measure out closer to 1/64th.
  14. Started with a Hot Wheels S’cool Bus. Bent the headers and shaved some material to make the front of the body sit lower. Wire window screen was painted black and added for “security”. The headlights are reflective vinyl with decals for the “fluting”.
  15. I repainted the silver after addressing the bodywork issues, used Tamiya Gloss Aluminum. The decals are kit supplied. The tail lights and parking lights were not engraved in some places and lacked some detail so I just hand painted what was there.
  16. The Simpson's. An episode shown last Sunday there was clearly a Monogram Red Baron kit on the shelf of the hobby shop. Joan of Arcadia. The brother built airplane models in just about, if not every, episode.
  17. Frank Beard used to be, don't know if he still is, a collector of high quality hand built 1/43 car models. If you don't know what little band he's from you probably aren't much of a rock & roller... I remember the "Van Halen truck", it was not allowed to be referenced as such though. I had to remove the title text from the art when I drew that sheet ...
  18. Looking good. I like your wheel choice.
  19. Sounds like you are putting it on too dry. 2 parts paint to 1 part thinner might be a bit on thick side. The ratio is a rule of thumb, not a hard and fast rule.
  20. Thanks guys. Yes DD, you get the credit for that bolt being added. I don't know why the forum allowed me to post the pictures but not allow me to fix the bad link. It's one of my favorite shots. I'm glad someone caught the time frame the blacked out trim puts it in. The reservoir is a match for the one in my Camaro before I bleached it out. It is still a little barfy looking though... I still have another 1/12 build going, the McLaren MP4/6. Just waiting for the paint to cure before I resume posting progress photos of it.
  21. I picked this kit up a long time ago. From what I have read it appears the real car was a 1967 Targa that was wrecked and built into this custom in the early ‘70s by Stan Towne. It can be found in different configurations like the later (possibly current owner) had put Fuch’s on it, but the mags really make the car so I’ll be doing the early original version. Some photos show it with a Tornado style side view mirror too, but early on it only had the windshield mounted one, much cleaner looking… I saw the car once a long time ago and when I saw the kit I had to get it. I found it interesting that the box says “Made in England” and the chassis has “Made in France” cast into it, while the instructions are in German including the address and phone number. The body was relatively cleanly cast, but had a mold line that deep enough to need to be filled around each fender opening. I used 2 part polyester filler to remedy that. Here it is before filling: The wheels were not as crisply rendered as I hoped, and they are a big part of what made it look cool to me. So the kit sat for decades until I could come up with a better alternative for the mags. I found a workable pattern and had these wheels cast by a good friend. He did a really nice job casting the centers and rims, but since the outer rims were supposed to be polished, I machined a set from aluminum. The tires suffered from their long term confinement and ended up being distorted and having some deep impressions in them. I re-purposed (and resized) two pairs of Precision Miniatures front tires intended for a TR 250 to replace them. I shot a coat of silver that shows I need to give more attention to the filled areas… Looked good in primer, but silver is not forgiving.
  22. AFX is not part of Round2. It is owned by Racemasters. Tomy produces the AFX products. Scale-Master does the artwork for the cars.
  23. Doesn't matter what the subject is when it is built that nicely. But I like the truck too.
  24. Wow. Irony.
  25. And that Jimmy kid got banned for better quality writing than we have these days...
