Quick Overview: Revell Starsky & Hutch Torino
Scale-Master replied to Chuck Kourouklis's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Primer should be fine. Or Silver. No need for both on the outside. Despite the old wives tales, the dye from the red plastic does not bleed through paint. -
16th Annual - Cruisin’ For A Cure - Model Car Contest
Scale-Master replied to Scale-Master's topic in Contests and Shows
I expect to see you there tomorrow Rusty. We have some great kits to award the winners this year thanks to the sponsors. -
Thanks guys! No Dan, it doesn't open, it is a curbside. The hood was off by a good 0.060 side to side. And it didn't line up well at all. Plus the engine and front suspension were a glue-bomb mess.

Ten day build. ‘70’s vintage Testors Ruby Red Metal Flake. I made a fuse from some stretched sprue for the cycle’s fuel tank, and took some artistic liberties with the detail painting; otherwise it is bone stock as the kit builds. WIP: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/105699-cherry-bomb/

Is this kit worth anything to anyone? Pontiac
Scale-Master replied to freakshow12's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Revell made the Monza and the Sunbird after the Monroe Handler Mustang II using the same basic chassis and interiors. Very generic. Both the Monza and the Sunbird share the exact same body. End caps for the front and rear and hoods differentiate the Chevy from the Pontiac. Both kits have been issued multiple times in different schemes Here's one I built recently using the Monza nose and the Sunbird tail, it is built from the original test shots I had left over from the initial release; my dad and I built the first round box art and catalog models. -
The bike is coming along… The trailer is done… And the car is getting close to being finished…

Have you seen Vince LoBosco's Dragon Wagon from a couple years ago ( I saw it at a GSL)? Best I have ever seen, as is his Tijuana Taxi.

Thanks, and you were asking in the Corvette thread about this one John... The days are getting shorter… Less light to shoot in. The wheels and suspension are plugged into the bottom of the car and I “installed” the chrome “engine” after a little hand detail painting of the one piece turbine.

Thanks. It's done now:

This started as an MPC Street Fever Vette; a later reissue of the Mako Shark II. It was complete, unpainted and (poorly) partially assembled. I added the wheels and made the graphics. WIP Thread: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/102839-custom-vette/?page=1

Thanks JD. The wheels are under it. Final stretch, it will be done soon. It just needs the windshield, roof and a final waxing.

Thanks guys! The interior and chassis are stuffed into it.

Kit Bashing - The Art of Rivet Counting
Scale-Master replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually the Yenko was one of several in that series that began with the Monogram Z/28 patterned off the Monogram 1/12 scale Camaro that had been previously released. It first offered with a Blue car in white stripes on the cover. It didn't become a Revell kit until the two companies merged. -
I think the chemical formula of the enamel is different. Whether it is better or worse depends on who you talk to. I think the Stop Light Red actually looks like it has more flake. But I wanted an excuse to use the older paint. The chrome on the wheels was too much to me and part of the toy-like appearance I wanted to tone down. I painted the recessed portions of the wheels with a flat metallic light gray I mixed from Tamiya acrylics.

Straight on to the plastic.

New Decal Setting Solution! I'm still trying it on all kinds of different brands of decals. It worked great on the decals for the Cherry Bomb I'm building...

I used lacquer thinner to cut it, and it is in the mid-90s here. I decaled it a little more than 12 hours after painting the red. I cleared it about 8 hours after that. Here it is after being waxed this morning.

That bottle of Ruby Red is at least 30 if not 35 years or more old. It was a virgin and I used 98% of it on this model. Last night I did a little touch up and used one more percent.

This one will be straight out of the box with a few minor paint changes. I plan to paint the louvers black instead of leaving them red as the box art shows. Maybe I'll do something to make the wheels look less toy-like.

A re-issue of the 1970 Tom Daniel Monogram kit. I never had one as a kid so when I won this kit as a prize at a recent model contest I decided to dive right in. Immediately I knew I’d use some vintage Testors Metal-Flake Ruby Red. In 24 hours I was able to get the all the body parts painted and decaled and a few other little parts cleaned up for assembly.

Thank you Harry.
