  1. That is a good point, maybe the aftermarket wheels helped steer it away from me seeing it as a mispainted Mako. I'll bet it would look good in Marlboro Maroon, wonder how it would look with some factory style striping too. Maybe some ZL-1 trim in white...?
  2. The guy that gave me this kit did one very much like you describe in Marina Blue with grey centered Torque Thrusts. It looks great and surprisingly believable as a "stockish" street car.
  3. It's what can happen when you don't have any plan or idea what it will look like from one day to the next. Although it is starting to gel.
  4. Full coverage of the metallic green and I decided it did not need to be brighter to go with the black graphics I came up with. The tires from the kit were salvageable.
  5. If I were to do it again, I'd start with this:
  6. I decided on a green, but not the Testor’s Jade Green I had been leaning towards. I test shot this Tamiya TS-20 over an olive green and didn’t like the coarse look of the metallic. Over yellow it looked much finer. It still needs another couple coats and I might tweak the shade to be a bit louder after I see how it looks with full coverage.
  7. Thanks guys. I think the rims were from the Revell AlterNomad. I got one loose rim years ago and cast copies, this is the first project I found that I thought they would work on.
  8. I cast a bunch of wheels in a couple styles and offsets for a friend and I decided on the Daisy’s from those for this project. They were cast modularly (each of these are two pieces in the photo) and these would normally make 15 x 8s, but I will add another rim section to the back and make them 15 x 10s.
  9. I lowered the ride height almost 1/8 of an inch and I made lenses for the mirrors. The original Atlantic wheels were hogged out to accept some Centerline 5 spokes. The rest is just a repaint to give it a different personality. WIP: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/105263-chrysler-pacifique/
  10. This model contest is over 25 years old and has run every year since its inception. Current promoter is Mark Wing. Sunday September 6th, 2015. The Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa. In The Hangar building. Registration ends at 12:00 noon. Awards Presentation starts at 2:00PM. Trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in all categories. Plus four Best Of Awards. List of categories:
  11. Thanks guys. I decided to take a cue from Bugatti and made some body accents in a French Blue.
  12. Thanks guys, I decided to add one more "unique" detail. My near constant companion in the truck was Rocky, a 108 pound Golden Lab. A great dog that knew how to hog a bench seat. I modified a Hood Hounds figure and painted it to match.
  13. This was a factory built promo version of the Lindberg Atlantic kit that had been disassembled and partially painted about a dozen years ago. Then shelved and forgotten. Since it won’t be a replica of the one-of-a-kind Atlantic, I decided to rename it and give it a little different look. I cemented on and faired in the nose to remove that seam across it. I scribed a new hood line and made some adjustments around the grilles to match since the hood lines used to run into them. It had been originally painted with Testors enamels, so I sanded it smooth, primed it and then put down a base of lacquer gray for a solid base for the lacquer main color. Here it is after prep and bodywork, ready for primer/undercoat. I chose Tamiya TS-40 Metallic Black for the color. I machined the centers out of the Atlantic wheels to accept a set of Centerlines I cast copies of.
  14. You know..., I have the AMT '63 and the Revell '67 handy. Too bad I didn't I didn't see the question before I did this to it: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/105073-’63-corvette-privateer/
  15. Wheels and tires were changed, I custom made all the decals since the kit came with stickers. WIP thread: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/104852-’63-corvette/#comment-1484145
  16. That is something nobody ever said about the real truck! Thanks guys!
  17. Thanks Ed. I have built the '57 Chevy and the '70 Chevelle from this snap series too. The bodies look very nice but are simplified. If you are willing to spend a few hours on cleaning up the mold lines and doing some panel line scribing they come out nice for shelf models. There is something different about the plastic, it is a bit softer and it has a slick feeling before you sand through the surface, but it takes all kinds of paints with no problem. Perfect for experimenting with new paint schemes or colors. They come with stickers instead of decals, that is something to consider. Also they don't have rearview mirrors, and he '57 comes with some nice wheels...
  18. I like the idea and am curious to see how you reconcile the fit of the rear.
  19. BMF’d and ready for final assembly…
  20. MPC cab, engine and chassis I repurposed from a step side kit I built in 1974. I started making it into a copy of my truck over 30 years ago and the project stalled at least 26 years ago. I picked it up a couple months ago. The camper is scratch-built along with lots of other goodies, a lot of kit-bashing as well. WIP Thread: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/103514-’72-chevy-c10-pick-up/
  21. Waxed and ready for BMF…
  22. Shots of the back of the cab where there was still a little white paint left. The slider window is scratch-built too. I’m not worried about the slots on top of the bed rails, the camper shell is a permanent part once it’s finished. Time to button this one up. After all, it has been under construction (and stagnant) for over thirty years.
  23. Thanks Riley. I mounted the cab to the chassis and added some wires and hoses to the engine. The windshield was treated to some delamination crustiness around the edges and the antenna was made and installed. There’s a folding sun shield on the dash too, not that I used much, after all, the dash was trashed.
  24. Thank you Gator. The mirrors have been attached to the mounts. I included the fisheye mirror on the passenger side and am still working on the crusty/delaminated glass look for the reflective surfaces. I made the (deteriorating) rubber seals from vinyl.
  25. The other point in that Satellite (not Coronet) thread was that the differential was too small. That is what I was using as a comparative.
