I am getting a mean n nasty camaro body ready for some paint. I am looking at either doing some graphics or some flames. My main colors I am wanting to use are pavo purple and white from kustom kolors. Other colors I have are yellow, ultra orange, red, transparent persimon, green, metalic green, turquiose and metalic blue. Anyways, I am really stuck for graphics, or a flame stencil I could enlarge or shrink to fit the model and paint. Any help, pics or whatever would be cool! Jody

I know the feeling. I like the direction you are going with your truckster. My question is what will you do for hinges? Here is what I started doing with mine. Jody

Well, since I finished one, actually 2 in one day, wich ties my record for the last three years, I am doing the twist. LOL. Here are the final outdoor pics. This is the Twister Vega kit with my twist, just like a orange twist, Kustom Kolors Ultra Orange body with white interior. My first succesful airbrush job as well as my fist succesful flocking job! I kept the details to a minimum as I wanted to actually get one done! Wich I also got another one done today as well!Hope you enjoy. Jody

This is where mine started life. Then I changed it to the second one. The thrid one is/was my inspiration. But still was just not into it enough to ever fnish. Now I am thinking scratching a new frame for it, and suing some front runners and firestones with a blown sohc? I have a metalic green, or ultra orange I could two tone with pavo purple? I would need to probably glue the doors shut though and keep the scratched interior simple? Jody

Where do you buy futre floor wax?
Smart-Resins replied to Jared Roach's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
That all you need to know artice was awesome. Some reading in there. LOL. But I got through it. I just got a dualm action airbrush and have quickly adapted to it and absoluttly love it. Getting better shines and started polishing my paint jobs for the first time. Now I have to try this!! I also will have to try it with the simple green as suggested. I do not have a dehydrator yet, but I am wondering how it would turn out if it was used in one? Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks. jody -
That is one very cool truck! I have a cab with doors only I have been thinking about doing a truckster out of! I think I have made up my mind now! LOL. Jody

One some other sires, as well as when I first came here,, people used to get under my skin sometimes to. I would state such things as I want to do this and this is the best way I know how to do it. Then Id get a bus load of people jumping all over me telling me how dumb I was. So Id get mad and retort back. Now, I ignore them. They basically have all gone away too! I feel as though if someone things I can do something in a better way, then nicley let me know. I like constructive critism. But I hate people jumping on my but! I dont need modeling hemeroids! LOL. Since I change my way of looking at things and reacting, I have found a lot better atmosphere here! I hope you come to that level and find pople start backing off! Also, have another cold pepsi from me! Jody

Smart-Resins replied to The Red Ranger's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I got some just recently at a good price. I use duplicolor automotive primer under it. I also use duplicolor auto clear over it. I mix it 50/50 with laquar thinner and sprayes good at around 20LBS pressure through my Paasche. Thanks. Jody -
I think I want to learn to cast--
Smart-Resins replied to jfh's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I will second the pot here. I got mine at 50% off through harbor frieght. $45 shipped that was.Great tool! I use the mold max 30 rubber with the 325 series resin. The mold max by smooth on is a 10:1 and very easy stuff to use. Its a overnight cure (24 hours) and the 325 series resin is a white resin wich has a longer pot life. By pot life, we mean the amount of time it gives you to fully mix, pour into your mold, pop air bubbles if any and close your presuure pot and put the air to it! The pot life was the big killer to the Alumilite stuff for me! You had to stir quickly, then quickly pour. No time for popping air bubbles as you had to rush to get it into the pot ontime! So the smooth cast will allow you to get better quality castings. Ryan has done a wonderful job t the introductery parts! I will add that I got a digital scale through harbor freight I think for $10 shipped! I get a lot of my products through misterart.com The craft sticks for a 100 count is around $10 bucks. I save money on those by using both ends! Once I have used both ends, I cut them in half, giving me two more ends. So I can get 4 uses out of one stick, so 400 uses out of a box! They will last a long time that way. One thing I did not see Ryan mention though is the measuring cups! You can get these in bulk as well!I reuse mine when possible! the ones for the resin, when the left over resin cures, I pull it out and reuse the cup. On the rubber side of things, when that cures, I pull that out as well. On the cup that has the goopy red stuff in it, its better to toss those! LOL> Also, on any molds that go south on you, you can cut/grind them up and use them on some molds like the inside of car bodies ect. to cut down on costs. Or on the second half of a mold wich is the back side of a rim or so. Now I find using powder in you molds can increase the crispness of the resin. Regular baby powder can be used. Also, heating the molds up in the microwave for a minute can also help crispness of the resin. By doing these, you can very simply get aftermarket quality casting just about everytime! Downfall to the heat, it will break your mold down faster! I do not do the mold release on single part molds and they will last me around 20-30 castings. The mold release Ryan talked about can increase the molds life!. I am just lazy in that department! Now onto the things you can cast. Exhaust pipes can be very tricky boogers to cast and will take a two part mold. You do this by using clay on one half and making up a mold box. For a first timer, I would certainly say no! I have been casting for over 2 years now and they are still tricky to me! Engine blocks and intakes and heads, valve covers ect. can all be done by simple one part molds, or if you want to do solid one piece blocks, with a simple two part mold!I find it better to do as much in one part molds as possible to make them easier! Ryan may argue? I have seen some of his stuff here and there and he does some nice stuff. its all about how easily you learn and how you fell about it and can do it!Its just like modeling, we all have our own levels! I really do wish you the best of luck! Many of us do it primarily for ourselves. I started with that intention, then decided I would try to go pro. My ideas were bigger then my head! LOL. it can become a very large burden to do aftermarket!! KIS!! Also, to give you a little insight, a good guy around here, Chris Buck shared a tutorial with me on a body wich helped me some! He gave me his blessings to share it, so here is a link to my forum where I have it. I hope it helps you too! Jody http://kustomcarz.proboards.com/index.cgi?...&thread=124 -
Now that is a beast, not a rat! LOL. Jody

I would also suggest the alumilite to start with. if you want to get into it further from there, I would suggest the smooth cast line of casting resin as it is cheaper, has a longer pot life and comes out smoother. In bulk form is also cheaper. But to learn how to do it and keep things simple, the alumilite is where I started and would suggest for you as well. They have a forum for support as well. Start with simple one part molds. KISS idea! Once ya mastered that, then go to the 2 part molds. They can be tricky sometimes. I still mess up on mine occasionally. Thanks. jody -
The motown missle looks great! The little white one looks fun. As for decals, have ya tried whoopie cat? May or may not. just a thought. Jody

Alright, now I have buffed it out with wax. I have not had a paint job this good ever. I am very happy! When I looked at the pics, I realized I had not gotten all of the wax off of the back. LOL. Went back and got that! LOL. You can see the shine better, but still not as good as it is! I can honestly see myself in it! I like that. Too bad I had not intended this to be show quality. I do have a body coming up thats in the pond right now that I will try to go all out on the paint job! Anyways, here is a quick mock up. Jody

Here are some pics. I will state that sun and ultra close ups can change a perception of something. LOL. Seeing the body in the sun with the naked eye, it appears very glossy and like a metal flake or pearl. You can slightly see that in the pic, but not as well. As for the motor, in the sunlight or inside with my naked eye, it looks perfect to me! but getting this ultra close up, I can see orange bleed through! LOL. Anyways. As for the interior, you will note my silver painting (sharpy marker) leaves something to be said about trying to get perfection with the jitters! LOL. That is why I am fearfull of doing the gauge detail! LOL. Jody

This will be primarily box stock with my own "twist" to it, wich happens to be HOK Kustom Kolor Ultra orange wich reminds me of a tangerine. So my own twist litterally LOL> The interior is vynl white. All painted up. Just need to do the details to it, then paint the roll bar and it will be done. I will be adding decals to the body later today and finial clear coats tomorrow hopefully. I bought some automotive wax to axtually try polishing this one out some! By the way, this is my very first time painting a car body with my Paasche airbrush! I was advised by Alex to mix it down 50/50 wich worked really well. Sprayed on light and dried fast. I can tell by doing this though I will need to spend more time and attention to the primer and base coats. Wich was grey duplicolor primer, smoothed out, then white duplicolor primer for the base coat. The chassis is in grey primer right now and will be sprayed HOK Kustom Kolor Silver. The motor will be sprayed to match the body. I hope you all enjoy. Thanks. Jody

How to spray HOK Kustom Kolors?
Smart-Resins replied to Smart-Resins's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thank you guys very much! Someone had mentions mixing it 50/50 with laquar thinner. So I will start out with that. Can I assume using Dupli-color automotive primer under it is fine? Also, we had lived in Seveirville ( seveire county) It was great the 2 years we lived there. Sure do miss themountains and some of the cheap prices like on gas. I guess the trade off is cooler summers and milk for a $1.65 a gallon! LOL. No hobby town or habby lobby here though!! Jody -

Thank you guys for the responses. karmodeler2, I did use to live in TN, but we moved to NY last August for family reasons. I will have to get the tech book for sure! The $50 book is too much to swallow since I am unemployed right now! I did not know they stopped selling them! I picked mine up cheap from a online buddy. Thanks. Jody -

Also if so, what mixing ratio should I do. Also what base coats are good for these colors.. Pavo Purple Metallic Blue Transparent Gold Transparent Persimmon, silver turquoise green ultra orange. Thanks. Jody
