How Do You Chop The Top On A Vw Bg?
Smart-Resins replied to Smart-Resins's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
First thanks for all of your help.I must re-inerate the fact though that this is a 1/16 scale bug.So first a resin body is out of the question because as far as I know there are none, though I hope to help change that here and second a new kit off of ebay anyways would cost about $65 with shipping, not in my budget right now.VW that is another cool site.Thanks. -
How Do You Chop The Top On A Vw Bg?
Smart-Resins replied to Smart-Resins's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now that is a good visual on how to chop a top. However that makes it look alot harder then I was wanting or hoping! The first thing is to lengthen the body before I do a chop.I may have the look I want then. If not, then I will at least have a solid base to work with that does not need to be modified, and take the chance to mess up the after its done! Thanks so far guys..... -

Very nice build going there! I keep eyeing the Dodge kit for the chassis! -
I am working on a 61/62 pontaic 283.It is set up as a early nascar block and will be used in a early drag car.I want to use a log manifold with 2 barrel carbs if possible with fuel injection. I seem to think of a I believe they were called juice boxes or something like that? Anyways with the log manifold that meens I would basically have a double 6x2 set up.I have google everything I could think of and found of some references of such things that Mickey Thompson used, but can find no diagrams or pics of set up.If anyone can please help me.Thanks.

Snap kits for kids?
Smart-Resins replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree with many things posted here. I was raised as a only child in a what was then a "regular" family structure. My modeling experiance was started by my father.Although he never spent much time with me, he did try to start me on many boy things like traines, cox airplanes, models, r/c trucks and rockets. When I was older, he did try to get me to go hunting as well.He wanted me to be well rounded and structured and know what a man was about. I feel as though there is a huge lack of just that in todays society. Back in the day, one parent worked.Todays sociaty most all parents work regardles of the living situation. Back then there were many family virtues. I see and feel as though family virtues are slipping greatly. The parent/s look for a "baby sitter" for thier kids as so they are not bothered by them after a very long day at work.So here comes the game machines and Tv and Ipods ect. In my home, we do not have cable. We only have movies, what ever we buy.We are Christians and do not hold any value in TV especially with todays content of television. We have family values and spend some time everyday as a family and at least one day each weekend just for family time. I enjoy spending time with my children trying to work on models with them. However sometimes they seem alienated still. My daughter tells me that there are no other kids in her grade who do models and that cars are a guy thing. I keep telling here that liking cars are for girls too. When she gets invlolved, then she is in tune with it.But sometimes it is a struggle to get her to the bench.Poeple think we are rather crazy since we dont have tv or cell phones or ipods or xboxes. They laugh at us that we are out dated.I never wanted to become a old fart. But if losing my children to a modern society is the trade off, then I will be that old fart and retain my family virtues and try to instill in my kids what hobbies and family is about. I think thats were groups/clubs need to try to work harder at, trying to draw in kids in after school activieties and get them hooked.I dont think in general the parents will and I doubt theres enough kids out there to instill in thier friends these things as that would be un-cool.For those kids left wondering the streets until Mom or Dad get home looking or something to do, hunt them down and show them things to do.As a model group, some are for strictly crs or planes ect. Braoden the horizons and find out what the kids interests are and get them hooked, wether its a building, plane car or truck, maybe even a monster.Modeleing is modeling! -
Very nice build! I like the color combo for sure

my first set of tires
Smart-Resins replied to Lownslow's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Hello. I like using the Alumilite high strength 3 rubber. I use it both for the 2 part molds and the tires(well, still working on the tires.LOL.) Also use the black dye for the tires. Seems as though I am currently out of the mold release though and waiting to get some. Did you do both the tire and wheel combo? Looks great.Fine job ya did! -

Dupont rattlers is what we tend to use. This is the left overs from her bike. She entered the bike in a show in the spring and won 1st place in that catagory. She did a much better job painting this and she hopes to enter it in the same show this fall providing we get the replacement tailights in time from a gracious member here.I think she will do quite well indeed. I love to see what the kids do.Sometimes when I go to shows I end up a little disappointed in some of the bad models there, and hope the kids find the right modeler to teem up with to excell with.I know where my daughter will be going as long as she stays in it.Lord knows about them teen years to come!!Your daughter must be having a blast working on the chezoom!!

Heres a short story.A year and a half ago while we stille lived in NY we went to the Syracuse Goodguys nationals and naturally enjoyed the mini nats. While there they had the kiddie build consisting of the Revell's snap tight PT Cruiser. My daughter got hers together faster then anyone else there. She was very pleased with it. That was her first experience with models. After getting home she decided she wanted to paint it a metal flake green.Well it was her first attempt and she did a horrific job.It was curled, alligatored, bubbled the whole nine yards! Shortly there after we boxed it up and came to TN.After doing a motorcycle, previously sowed here and currently working on a nomad pro-stock(kit bash/scratch build) she has decided she wanted to redo it.So Friday night it went into the Purple Power.Satyurday it cam out and she cleaned it and primed it.Sunday she painted it and put the decals on it.Now all she has to do is to paint the details on the chassis and interior and she will be done.I must say she is getting a handle on the painting part.A little more work, but she is doing a great job.Well anyways, Ill let the pics do the talking. She is also working on a daytona kit we just picked up for $2.00 recently at Wally world and her low rider Mustang she got for her Birthday.Just doing my part at trying to keep the hobby alive!

Perhaps this has already been covered, but I have not seen it. Last night I went to post 2 small pictures in a new topic and it would not let me.Seems as though most of my attachment space is already being used before I even start. It is only allowing me to upload a max file size of 23? Why is this and how do I remedy this as so I may post some new pictures.

Well, heres one of my current projects.I usually build in 1/16, so this tiny 1/64 scale project is very tiny to what I am used to.I have taken parts from 4 small cars, a Hot wheels, a matchbox, a miajesto and a muscle machines. I have smoothed out the doors, filled in the back of the cab, smoothing out the bed and took the top off, removed the front fenders and running boards. Scratched some of the block and the headers.Still have to do fire wall and floor board. Also going to scratch a roll bar and of course, have to scratch the chassis as well. I am sorry for the poor quality, but my camera is junk and I was lucky to even get it to work......
