Hey, its simple. Just go to your local advance auto or autozone and look at thier Dupli-color line of Automotive paints. A very nice, and easy paint to use on models. Not too hot anymore as they have changed many of thier formulas. They have a paint such as you describe. I believe three different colors. I have not used them yet as being unemployed I cant afford it right now. The kit should run you about $20.00. I do know one of the combinations was a purple. Also if you are looking for something simular, but not quite, but on your own dupli-color of choice, they have a effexer wich is kinda like a pearl over coat(gloss coat) that you apply on top of other colors. I used this on a 1/8 scale pontiac motor that I sprayed in white and it just looked awesome just like a white pearl. That can runs about $6. Hope this all helps. Jody

Well, All I can say is I got this old glue bomb 1/16 scale C-cab for parts donated to my Yahoo group for the group build and for casting purposes. The remainder of the kit was left to my disposal. Whoho!! Since I enjoy 1/16 sooo very much, my head started to spin! (beetlejuice beetlejuice.) Oh no.Sorry. Anyways here is a pic of it in the condition I got it with several badly glued pieces and broken pieces. Most of the frame and springs are junk! The tires and rims shown are not from it. Now I had a idea of a TT C-cabpickup style with something else in the back. Heres is a very rough mock up. Then I decided to start doing a tuck n roll interior using half round styrene. Here is the beginning results of that. The one side panel and back panel are done, just needs cleaning up and smoothing out. Next to do is the other side panel and 2 door panels. The upper half of the sides will get a diamond pattern with buttons. Yes, I know that will take me forever to cut out each diamond(may just do small squares?) But with what I am doing, this will be worth it. so with further ado, hers more pic. Next, I just got in a 31 in trade. Z'd the chassis for the truck, then decided I both wanted a custom hot rod chassis for the truck and a more stock style chassis for this, so frames ideas are swapped out. I then decided to box the frame in. Anyways, so here it is again in rough mock up on its new chassis. Now this will be treaded to frosted glass in the oval windows and some of the rear glass. It will house a flat head motor. Downfall is the flat head motor that came with the 31 truck, was a different style then I like. No dual water pumps. So I will be scratch building a new front for the motor for the dual water pumps, and new drives. Also am going with stcks on it. That too is being scratched, actually going into rubber tomarrow. The other parts will go into rubber when the time comes. So by tommarrow I will be adding carbs, breathers and stacks to my growing list of 1/16 scale parts. The quick change will get reworked and casted as well. Will bear white walls with steelies, wich I am reworking to both be universal and more detailed and will also be scratch building spiders for them. They will too be casted when the time comes. This may get a blower or may not, or maybe a log manifold. I know I will be making both of those, just not sure if for this project or not. Anyways, the rear end will all have to be scratchbuilt as it will be something quit different. A little hint for right now to see if anyone can guess it. It will be something simular to what John Force owns and has run at the tracks for some extra income. He also currently has it for sale for $55,000 that one however is a model A I believe, or maybe its just a TT. I cant remember. Anyways without any more hints, I turn the table over to you guys. Now while you are sitting there watching movies, I hope you think of this build.HEHEHE. Jody

Alright. My wife finally decided she wanted to work on a model. I guess she figured that was the only way to spend any time with me.Well, maybe not good, but hey at least it worked? Anyways she likes cars and trucks from the thirties. Good taste. I found one night when I was still employed right around Christmas a Rat Pack Goodguys 29 Ford PU kit at Walmart clearanced! Nice gift to her. She has been working on it very slowly, but she is doing a fine job of it. Right now it is in black primer, but it will turn Green with envy soon to match the chassis. The color is a dark metallic green. The trim and interior will be white and will bear CHROME! She is doing the full fendered thing with the convertible body. I traded to get a flat head V-8 (thanks guys on this forum). So she is getting close to finishing up her first hot rod Pick Up! Heres the mock up shot in primer and a shot of the chassis as it sits waiting final color on the body.Thanks. Jody

The kit is made by Minicraft. They make a couple different versions. Mine is the yellow one of course. It has the flat head- v-8 in it and was supposed to have the pie crust slicks in it. The rat trap also has the same parts. The blue version has the 4 banger(wich also came in mine as well) and the original style rims. They have the single barrel carbs. The rockin roaster also has simular parts. The Pyro Gee Tee and Serpand also has nice axles wheels and carbs. The two first listed trucks has the stock or dropped axles and both the same for the rear axles and has a quick change in them. I will be modifying the flat head to incorperate both water pumps that soo many are used to and will be scratch building a blower for it as well. These items will be casted.I also have Cragar ss rims casted for these. I am hoping to soon have smaller white walls and more detailed steelies casted and a moon tank casted for 1/16. I will be casting the carbs too.If I ever get my hands on a pie crust wheel i will also cast that. I am into building hot rods, rat rods and 1/4 milers so look forward to some custom parts out of my pot. Actually I will also be scratchbuilding a 23 c-cab delivery for casting as well. That should give some poeple some good material to build with! jody

I see ya bounced into my thread. I will be posting my wifes in a short. Its currently black primer. It will be the dark metalic green found on the chassis. Jody

midnight, glad I could have been a help to you. Everyone, thanks for the encouraging words. I have a quick change coming in the mail for me to help finish off the rear end. I will be scratch building mu rear spring. Have two issues. I do not have spindles to fit the front axle and still looking for brakes for it. Once I can allocate them, this thing will move ahead more. Right now I can only do a couple of little odds and ends. If I cant find any spindles, I may try my hand at making them, but this scale is sooo tiny and am scared of trying it! Jody

It sounds to me like you have a issue with your internet explorer/ microsoft! I have been down that road 3 times! Go to microsoft and get any updates/patches you can and try updating your internet explorer. Then run your virus. If you have just recently updated your explorer, that may be a problem too, I havent in the last month however there has been a recent buzz about it. So you may or may not want to. I would suggest browsing for a group that discusses explorer and read up on it some before you jump there anyways. Those are my only suggestions as it is also working for me fine. It takes forever to upload, but then again I am on dial up with 50 year old lines running down in here! Jody

I believe some of you have seen what I did with the hard top cab left over from my wifes build, the 29 hoochy mobile. My wife is doing here full fendered convertable metalic green, white trim and chrome with a flat head v-8. Hers is looking real nice! thinking I may do my 1/16 scale 31 the same color sceme! I will have to take pictures of that in a couple days after she is done painting the body with a quick mock up before the little things get finished. liking the way you are thinking of taking yours! Pontiac Astre Resin Kit?
Smart-Resins replied to Smart-Resins's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is a later 70's version. The earlier 70's version was much different. Thanks. Jody -
Man I am really lovin the way this thing is looking! Jody

I will be looking forward to your build Dirk, esp. knowing some of the parts you will be using! LOl. Jody

Mike, actually they are universal. This is a 1/16 kit. They have more detail in them. Really nice actaully. The axle will hang out in front mounted on a scratched perch on a scratched tube. The rear I have z'd more, an additional scale 3 inches. So the frame now sits 2 popsicle sticks off of the ground.Thats 1 1/4" in scale off of the pavement! It will run a open box, wich will be shortened and the top will get chopped. a scale 3" I am thinking. Being dropped so much, that will be opening up the floor of the bed for the rear hump of the frame. So I may either shorten the floor pan up or something. I will figure that out when the time comes. I may also need to build up the motor mounts for it so it does not drag. Will have to wait until I get that far. I am thinking obout boxing in the fram. I may drill it out too? I will see. I actually have 2 other builds I am working on, one almost done maybe(29 hoochy) But I just got this in on a trade and had to play with it. HEHEHE. Heres a new mock up pic.

Pontiac Astre Resin Kit?
Smart-Resins replied to Smart-Resins's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hello. Just a quick note. We are trying to cast up the front and rear of the body panels now. Also have a 72 body coming in for us to work on as well. Will keep you posted! Thanks. Jody -
Everyone else seems to be doing early 30's cars and trucks. I have my 29 Hoochy, but thought I would throw this one into the mix as well. Z'd frame and channeld. Will house a flat head v-8 with scratchbuilt blower and manifold maybe, or maybe a scratchbuilt log manifold? Not sure yet. I am wondering about the stance. I am debating maybe making the back Z higher? the front I can not because of the firewall, so I will have to make up the different in the perch and front axle block/mounts. Undecided on the color right now? Maybe a lime green or a fiery orange either with white interior? Thanks. Jody

Man Al, this is the best one yet! I really love this thing! It is saweeeet! Keep up the good work! Jody

Got some more done. Tried to plumb the mill. This is my first. What a pain in the buttox! Good thing for flashlights, and nail polish remover and more paint! Wanted to get this done for a show, but Its not as perfect as I would like, so I dont know. I am still having fun with it though.Anyways after painting and stripping the motor, then wiring the distributor and the starter, I moved on to finishing the floor boards and painting the cab. Last night I made the bed and this morning I finshed the bed off and added pins to represent carriage bolts. Slowly getting there, but having fun doing it! Heres just a few shots. Thanks. Jody

Very nice as always Al! Great job! I know somewheres you could share that! aqnyways...... I have a build I may need to look you up for help on! Jody

Still looking nice!

I AM NOT SURE. I LIKE THE MILITARY FRONT WHEELS. I HAVE SEEN THAT BEFORE ON A RAT ROD AND IT WAS COOL. I ALSO THINK I HAVE SEEN IT ON A MODEL IN SOMEONES SHOWS FOLDER RECENTLY. THE DUALIES I LIKE AS WELL AS THE IDEA OF THE BOOM. NOW FOR THE TOP, I WOULD SAY 2-3 INCH CHOP MAXIMUM, NO MORE! THE INTAKE WITH STACKS, KINDA WILD. I DONT REALLY CARE FOR IT, BUT IT IS YOUR BUILD AND IT CERTAINLY WILL BE DIFFERENT! HOWEVER I WOULD SAY CHANNEL THE HECK OUT OF IT!! JODY

I say Zoomies all the way! Now the grill is a hard call. I think the stock grill would be too tall. In your pic the top of it is about the same height as the cowl but the bottom is on the ground. If you give it ground clearence, it would stick up higher, not cool. However, that chopped grill may sit the right height, but the bottom of it looks funky and I say it needs to be longer! You dont have one half way inbetween do you? Now one idea with the stock grill is maybe you can tilt it back some and build the top in the back up some with putty to make it still flat, that way it sits the right height and it will be out further in the fron on bottom giving you ground clearance? Just A Big Happy Easter Everyone
Smart-Resins replied to walt francis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now those are some Hard jokes. You guys just break me up! Happy easter everyone. Color me gone -
LOL. We all started somewheres! I am sure all of our first models were really no better. We all have to learn somehow. You are in a good place to learn from others. No matter how good we are, theres always at least 10 others that can prove they are better. But they may say the same thing too! We all inspire each other here and we all learn new things here! Because of another thread I even saw how to make a flathead become suped up. I saw throttle cables on another. I am always taking pics for reference later to help me. Even if it is way beyond my experience, maybe in a few months I will look at it and give it a try and succeed! Thats the fun part!. Start with the basics, good paint job. No glue spots. Getting things aligned. After that you will be on your way to exelence my friend! Above all, alway always always have fun and always remember, it will never be perfect, even the best are not perfect! I know I have seen show winners with smudges! LOL. Jody

Got ya! As for the carbs, I can understand completely. I am used to 1/16 and one of my current builds includes the Revell parts pack caddy mill. Talk about tiny carbs! That green is inspiring though. I was thinking rat rod on my tanker truck, but I just may go with that color! That color, chrome and white are all befiting colors! jody

That motor is the cats meow!! I love it! The current stance on the car though makes it look like the horns could be shortened just a tad. But I still love where it is going! Very nice. Jody
