Cato, love the pics you showed on the previous page of the mock-ups you posted previously. I'm sure they motivate YOU as you continue on your adventure with this build. I personally have learned a lot from your methods and marveled at the results when you tackle an individual component or address an "issue" that has come up. Thanks for sharing with us all. It's an elegant car. Tim

Henry J Twin Turbo - Didn't see that coming..........
Codi replied to Codi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thank you again everyone. I wanted to see how tiny I could go and this particular piece is the smallest yet that I've done for the car. Hopefully i'll get it's twin done and the rack mounted early next week. Looking forward to your next paint update on your Vega Chris. You're getting oh so close man. Joe, yeah, I saw what Andy used on his GT40 and went and bought some myself. Never would have thought of using the stuff for that application, but it was perfect. I always try to share credit for an idea, inspiration, KNOWLEDGE or whatever if it's not mine. It's people like Randy (among many others on this forum) that do share their knowledge that help make all of us better at what we do. Randy, be assured I share the same sentiments when i stare at your build. Truly respect your talents and it inspires me as well. Thank you sir. Cheers, Tim -

Made the first of 2 Tim Mcamis steering rack supports/brackets. Chamfered, sliced, diced, drilled and I don't know what else but I'm sure I forgot some step along the way. To those that celebrate the holiday, Happy Easter. Tim Pic of the real deal from Tim Mcamis. The steering boot is the same corrugated tube that Randy D. was kind enough to share for his GT 40 build. THANKS RANDY!!! -
Cato, I don't care how good you are, or how long you've soldered, one can always learn something new from others. And I just did. That's a great soldering solution / technique, that I'm sure I'll surely use at some point in the future. Thanks for the detailed explanation AND wonderful photos. cheers, tim

Dave, married BUT retired. Keeps me out of my wife's hair. Randy, you being the master of soldering can picture that one I'm sure. Anyone that hasn't taken the time to check out Randy's GT40 W.I.P. thread (Adventures in Soldering) are missing something truly special. Take a moment to check it out and you'll be truly dumbfounded. Brad, yeah, back in the day, they used to make them about 5 times the size of what they do today. But with the price of copper being what it is................Cheers! Tim -
Nice to see you posting Donn. Oh, and a nice build too!!! Sweet paint job................of COURSE! More pics of what you've been working on would be great too. Cheers, Tim

Glad you like it so far. Brackets are this week and should have it mounted. Chris, I'll send you a PM on what I did in the process. cheers, tim -
Lots of little details to enjoy in your build Eric. I especially like the way you designed and detailed the bottom of the car. The way you used the photo-etch mesh for the bottom was very creative. Cheers

Dave my friend, thanks much! Got about 10 hours in this little piece. 7 different components, 2 were machined to some degree, rest scratch. You should have seen the porcupine setup I had for securing all the pieces to solder it. Hey Joe, took a little time to prep the piece by parting it off, final clean-up and prepping it for chrome. Copper plated it with the Caswell stuff. I've got to order the chrome solution yet. cheers, tim Gratuitous penny shot -
That is really cool Art. I had no idea the battery kit was so large but you made it fit beautifully. Adds a whole other dimension with the lights on. Great build. cheers, tim

Andy and Randy, greatly appreciated I assure you. The tank strap is a bit thick however and I'll thin it down by about half before final install. Dave, appreciated too, nice to see you back on your build! Ray, yes, a slit saw. I can make multiple pieces like I did on that stock and part off what I need. Steering box done. Little bit of clean-up on it but its a step towards completing the steering rack. cheers everyone! Have to part it off yet. -

Ahhhh, getting excited now aren't you Chris. Your weathering skills are fantastic. Where did you learn to do that so accurately? And of course, the pieces Dave made, well, lets just say they compliment your build in the best of ways. cheers, tim -

Bob, I'm looking forward to attending my first show sometime this year. Don't know when or where yet, but I'm going to make a real effort to attend one or two so I can finally meet other builders on this forum and check out the builds myself. thanks again for your interest. Eric, that is high praise and I take that compliment especially to heart. I like what you've done with your build, a truly unique and well executed build. Brad, I don't know about "schooling" anyone but I'm glad that you like what I'm attempting to do & build. Steering rack is next. My inspiration for that comes from Randy D. and his 1/25th scale GT 40 build he's currently making. Truly amazing detail on a really tiny part. btw, what's on YOUR table now? thanks again! Mr. Teresi, you're the Michelangelo of styrene, He was a heck of a sculptor in stone, but he couldn't touch you in plastic. cheers Tony, (GT Junior) now that's a loyal follower. Sorry I don't have more to post as I'm so slow.....if you knew the time I put into that silly strap you'd shake your head in disbelief. Hope you like what's next. Dave Willy, thanks man! Dave (comp1839) - I have a GREAT teacher so I can't take credit for all of it. If I can pull it off, I think you'll giggle at the steering rack mount brackets/posts that I have in mind. We'll see. thanks again Dave. Joe, oh Joe, what can I say other than thanks for making my day start with a good chuckle as always. Just like I asked Brad, what are YOU working on now btw? Cheers to each and everyone of you. tim -

Chris, whenever I have moments like yours, I'll come back to this page and read it again. Your attitude towards everything you've just shared is fantastic. I'm not sure I would be able to say the same. For whatever it might be worth, just seeing the interior body tin in black, makes all of the you have AND will put into the build will be the reward itself. That piece looks sweet with some color on it. tim -

Codi replied to Codi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Brad, I can't divulge all my secrets.......it was actually quite straightforward however. I got the strap done...I've got to shorten the bolts yet and the A & N fittings are not the final, I just wanted to see what it looks like. Since I wanted to do something a little different on the strap design, I machined it and then finessed it by hand. The challenging part was getting the bends and the bolt holes in the proper position. Not sure if I'll dychem anything but I'm thinking I might do the strap itself in a purple and then remove the red and blue from the tank caps and leave em' shiny against the purple. cheers, tim this pic shows the strap with the initial shaping on the mill On the car -

Thank you Roy and Bruce. This week I got the brackets and mounts done for the tanks. I wanted to be able to pop the tanks in and bolt them in so even though I've got the tank strap to fab yet, I did drill and solder in threaded.5mm brass nuts into the two side rails. The strap will go over the top and be secured with the .5mm bolts. I also added a bevel to the gas / oil caps. .The tanks will clear the steering rack and there is less than 1/32" between the tanks and the inside of the front end. Tank strap and then steering rack are next. Thanks again for following along. tim In this pic I'm using an awl to point out the .5mm nuts and a bolt to show where the strap will come down and be secured on each side. The solder joints are not completely cleaned up yet and the twin tanks will be polished after the tinal fitment is confirmed and completed -

When I read the opening part of your update, was like, uh-oh, this can NOT be good. But sir, that was one heck of a "save" on the car and was well worth all of the extra time. The car looks great and I'm happy for ya' Chris that you can move on with it. cheers, tim
