Henry J Twin Turbo - Didn't see that coming..........
Codi replied to Codi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
The additional brackets are machined and I started the mock-up process so I can get this part done. There are so many things to take into account and it has slowed me up a lot more than I anticipated. I won't have the struts/brakes on now till sometime next week I'm afraid. Here's a quick mock-up of the first of the brackets before I can move on. cheers -
Hi Brent, I can offer this insight from Dave(comp1839) that he shared with me regarding the puke tank location. Move it to the back and run your lines from the valve covers into your frame rails as you have them now. Then have them come out of the rear rails as close to the puke tank (wherever you decide to place it, the further back the better)........reasoning being that if something leaks or blows, you want to reduce the possibility of oiling down the slicks as much as possible. I thought it made sense, so if this helps........it's not the only consideration of course, but I thought it was an excellent one to share. cheers, tim

For what it's worth Chris, I know you don't have any "quit" in you, so you'll make the serious push and if it's done, then so be it. If not, you'll be that much closer to the finish. No sense rushing anything on her now because if something needs re-working, you'll regret that even more. Just do it your way and we'll look forward to the day when you post the "Under Glass" section. After you stop by the tables and pick up your awards of course. Cheers my friend, Tim -
Nice touches and vision you're sharing with us Eric. A lot of creativeness on this build. Cheers, tim

Leonard, I might be a dyed in the wool Ford guy but I can't help but admire the sweet job you've done on your Camaro. Like everyone else, can't wait to see her in paint now. Cheers, tim

Brad, I've not started the steering brackets / rack yet. What you've circled is the bracket that supports the brake caliper assembly. I removed the wheels & brake caliper for purposes of mocking up the lower control arms and steering rack. The pics I posted a few pages earlier of the assembled brake caliper show it a bit better. I've got a good plan for the steering arms/brackets when I get to them that I think will mimic the L.A.M.B. version pretty well. At least for 1/25th scale. Rob, good question. I'm going to paint the brass frame eventually. However, my intent is to keep as many of the brass, aluminum and titanium components that I've fabricated in their "natural" state. I'll use purple, blue and red dychem to add some color to it where appropriate and of course some nickel and maybe even chrome plating on certain pieces. Since most of it will be bolted together, glue shouldn't be an issue when I get to final assembly. The car WILL be displayed with the engine out of the car on its own stand and the body, wheels & tires will OFF the car for display purposes. I don't want to cover up what I've spent more than 2 years making. I'll do a final mock-up after everything is painted and take pictures with the body ON the car as reference and for the judges, but the final display will be as just described. Appreciate your asking! Cheers, Tim -

Thanks everyone....this will be the smallest / shortest progress to date on this build. I've always admired Dave's builds and his ability to replicate the real deal. On one of his cars he did these fantastic suspension brackets for the front end that I always admired and wanted to try to replicate. I made this one out of 1/16" brass rod....many times I've had to pause to figure out just how I MIGHT (never guaranteed of course) make something. This one was slit sawed followed by milling 2 "flats", then drilling it with a #76 bit. Lastly, I rounded the edges with a file & emory board followed by a light polishing. Now that I've figured out how to make em' I'll set up and do a half dozen tomorrow and get them finally on the car. cheers I just mocked up the piece on the frame after angle cutting the bracket......FYI, for the sake of the mock-up, yesterday's bracket is mounted backwards in the photo. -
Another brass one on the tables........most certainly will follow your progress. Cheers, tim

Hey Chris, I experimented with the Caswell again over the weekend. I did the copper on some brass samples and it turned out great. I've ordered their Chrome kit to try that over the brass......when I tried to do them with the nickel overlay, it bombed....no matter what I did. hmmmmm Looking forward to your next post!! Cheers -
Exquisite Dave. I can't help but notice little things like the drivers hoop and the way you drilled it and shaped all of your ends for fitment. I don't think most builders can appreciate the time and effort it requires to do each one like that. But when it's on the car, it just looks perfect, and that's before soldering them on. I don't do all my joints like that, partly because my scale is just too small and not practical, but I can certainly relate to what you've done and are doing........just thought it was worthy of a mention as your hard work is reflected in the finished product. I would like to know where this "School of Speedy Building" is and how much the tuition is cause you and Teresi have obviously graduated with honors. Cheers

Looks fantastic Brad....did it place at the recent show? Cheers, Tim

Thanks Richard....and you too DAVE! Randy, I'll be looking for those promised updates soon! Joe & Scott...........today's pics explain why this build is taking so long. I started the lower control arms and I'm trying to do my best to replicate the L.A.M.B. pieces. This pic shows the the real pieces and the ones I machined in brass.....they have 1mm rods and 2mm tube soldered together to make 1 unit. The aluminum puck has a hole drilled and a milled notch to line everything up and to secure it for soldering for reasons of accuracy. The next pic gives you an idea. The brass notched tab drilled to connect to the forward control arm. Which I have to make of course. The end result which took me an entire morning to do. After doing the entire thing I've come to the conclusion that Joe was right, I am certifiably insane now. -
Who doesn't like a GT40, but yours is a great example of one. Nicely done sir. Cheers

Cool project Art. Count me as a fan and look forward to your next post. Cheers

Codi replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Fantastic "eye" John for details. You have an unusual ability for replicating parts and actual cars without having specific dimensions etc. to go by. Not many people can do that...........at least not many people that I know. Your making phenomenal progress as usual. Cheers -
Ingenious. Love it Cato
-
Cato, keep building and keep posting.................great builds like yours take time because there is simply so much more TO SHARE. I personally find your posts to be so educational that I can't imagine that any builder that checks it out cannot possibly learn something. I don't know of any builder that doesn't want to get better at it while they're having fun along the way. You're an inspiration to us all. Cheers, Tim
-
Love the fact that you spelled out the sequence of assembly and just a few of the considerations you have to make before finishing the build. It's a great testament to the planning that goes into a build when it's not done "OOB". Like you Cato, I write everything down now and take pictures when doing mock-ups to help speed up final assembly and avoid mistakes. I'm smiling as I write this because your post just says it all so eloquently. I like what you're doing with the leather for the seats too of course!!! Cheers, tim

Thanks Joe...a few more pics to tide you over till Dave posts. I have to correct you however in that Dave gets top billing, ergo, the Dave & Tim Show. (I'm just thrilled to be mentioned in the same breath) I am curious as to what he decides to do with his engine selection, not a loser in the bunch. Cheers -

Thank you everyone...and Joe, you're correct, I DID miss that one........I've been so busy putting a few chassis rails on (now go check out Dave's dragster build for a comparison on productivity.....he's KILLING it) but it's just a bit of "fatigue" on the build that I'm battling. This too shall pass. Cheers again! -
Nice chassis work first and foremost Dave.....great progress and VERY cleanly executed.....as always. Regarding the survey, based upon the options you've provided, I think you're making it "unfair" in that the blown alcohol stands out. And I only say that because you've not finished the other 3 engines so it makes the comparison a little skewed. Whatever direction you settle upon will be a treat. But since you asked, the blown engine is my pic.......you can call it "BEAUTY & THE BEAST"........feel free to use that. Cheers, tim

Thank you. Scott, there are 4 simple bars to add yet, 2 per side that will mirror each other. One from the drivers hoop starting near the bottom door hinge and ending near the strut and then a vertical bar that will double as the front motor plate bracket/support. Those will be pretty straightforward compared to getting these 2 rascals on. cheers, tim -
I learn so much with every new post Dave. Thanks for taking the time to document it all. Cheers my friend.
