Looks terrific!

Iām gonna stick my 2cents in as to why S&M engines were painted with Ford paint (as were the race cars until 1970). The simple explanation is that S&M had a huge stockpile of Ford paint left over from their Mercury sponsorship. That said, Iām going to make it a priority to seek out Buddy and Herb at Carlisle this weekend and ask them!

I really liked this car that I built over 12 years ago. After a few moves, it seems to have disappeared along with many of my FOTKI album photos ( where the heck do they go?) I don't think that I will ever be able to replicate this build but, who knows? All I have left are these photos.

I built this car many years ago when the kit was first issued. I never was happy with the paint (too dark) . I must have used gold as a base coat. Not bad but it didn't match the real car and that bothered me. I decided that a repaint was in order! Tamiya clear red over a silver base coat along with some new Slixx decals. Nice color. Only took me about twenty years to correct it!š

That is cool!

Good job! Very clean.

Nah, I think that I've just become lazy or my skills have diminished . I don't care . I still have fun building models.

Really, really nice! The interior tub should be a model all by itself!š

Great job! You've taken an ancient ( below average ) kit and turned it into a masterpiece!

I believe that main reason S&M engines and even the cars through ā69 were painted with Ford paint is that they had so much of it. When the team requested paint from Ford back in 1964, they were sent a truckload from Michigan. It was part of their sponsorship agreement. They had enough paint to last for years even though the sponsorship was over a few months after it started. That is the story I got from a former S&M team member.
