Richard Petty 43 JR '65 Barracuda Funny
6bblbird replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Looking at the photo below, I wonder if this car is "finished". As is, it would not pass tech even in '65! No seat belts or shoulder harness (required). Seat is not securely braced. No headrest (required), and I can't believe that the pictured roll bar would not have a cross brace (to support the seat back and mount the shoulder harness (not required in '65). Upon closer examination, I believe that I see a piece of tubing that may have been a mounting point for the belts. I will say this....That car is downright scary from today's viewpoint! WF -
The Hemi is ready: The Hemi is ready! Wiring 2 distributors in the correct firing order is an exercise in patience! Headers are from Johan Sox & Martin kit. Sprayed with Alclad ll.
-
Another (better) pic of the distributor drive: I tried to make engine mounts from aluminum box tubing but they would not cooperate so I went with the motor plate.
-
Astounding! You could fool a lot of people into thinking they are 1:1s with those photos. WF

My post for today. The angled dual distributor drive was relatively easy. I used a "t" section of sprue and whittled it in to shape, painted it aluminum, and topped it off with pre-wired distributor caps.

Here's all you need to know about building a real AWB car. http://www.moparmax.com/features/2006/images/05-report/report.pdf Just find a car and get your tools ready!

Valley cover is made from Evergreen sheet and painted aluminum. Easy, but will it be seen with the intake on? Who cares, it looks cool now.
-
Gotta make one of these: Not the same as the distributor drive in the Johan Sox & Martin, but you could use that.

The engine is going to be a focal point so I want it to be as correct as possible. A Hot Rod magazine article was very helpful. This engine is actually complete but I want to show the progress pics. Notice the aluminum rod that is used to line up the engine, bellhousing, and motor plate as none of these pieces are from a common kit. Many parts for this car are from the "stash" Motor plate was cut from ".030 sheet plastic. Race cars almost always require a scattershield of safety bell housing. Many builders omit these. This one is a resin piece that I bought at a show.

You had a very high quality year! I think that truck is awesome!

The rear panel fits perfectly. I also cut out the license plate pad so that I could recess that area as it would appear on a 1:1 'cuda.
-
Ahhhh! Follow along and I'll show you how fix those ugly headlights. I have a method!

This has always been my favorite Pro Stocker! I would like to take you through my build. Here is what I am starting with! An MPC Pro Stock 'cuda that needs a lot of work. I start by removing the '72 MPC nose and tail light panel and transfer them to an unknown body. Thought it was a Johan but probably not.

One might think that I would get used to seeing the incredible work that Tory produces. Nope, every new project just bowls me over! You are my idol! WF

Yep, outside pics might be better. I've also found that if I use the "square" setting on my i phone rather than the "photo" setting the reds are more pronounced. Thanks!

You won't be disappointed!

Those are all exceptional! Too bad that Tamiya doesn't make U.S. cars!

If I compare the photos in the post directly with the ones in my Fotki album, there is a slight difference (more pixelation on the website) but not enough to bother me. it's possible that because I chose a large size format that they are compressed by the web site. The large format photos have revealed some flaws that now tick me off! I may just have to re-paint this thing!!

Don Nicholson '68 Mustang Cobra Jet SS/EA

Very sharp! You're right. This kit does need some t.l.c. but your build turned out great. Did you make the headers from scratch? WF -
This is a great kit! Might just be the best engineered 1/25 scale kit that I have ever built ( I started building in 1959!) My only nit picks would be : the door handles ( have to damage the chrome when removing them from the tree. the window glass fit is very precise and extreme care is required when installing them. I began my build with an internet search for inspiration and detailing tips. I found some great stuff but loved the red and white version. I copied the two tone interior but kept it simple Engine is pretty decent although exhaust manifolds are incorrect for '65. You could always add more detail like heater hoses and battery cables, etc.. The paint is Tamiya Bright Red (TS 49) over white primer. It is really red in real life. Camera makes it kind of orange.

All are fantastic builds but I'd love to see more of that salt car. Was it posted here? WF

Very whimsical and extremely cool! I was following in the "On the bench section" How did you finally make those decals?
